I'll get right to it- I scheduled an appointment to rule out inflammatory breast cancer ( 2nd opinion) as it is something that can masquerade as a rash. My appointment was apparently for 11:10, I thought it was at 11:30 & arrived at 11:23. I was told the doctor would not see me that day or any day in the near future because he was going to " be gone" & then he was booked up. The receptionist was not very concerned one way or the other. I wasn't offered an appointment with any other doctor, only assistants ( I have great respect for PA's, they are incredible). I truly needed the expertise of a doctor. As I looked around the office it was clear that this practice catered primarily to women seeking cosmetic procedures, not general people with actual health issues. I can't say I recommend this facility for anything or urgent Or non cosmetic. read more

Been going to Germain for about 6 months for acne treatment. Did not listen to any of my concerns for allergies to medications, prescribed me creams that are known to cause cancer if not used properly, and so much more. I was put on an expensive antibiotic and they failed to mention that it cancels out birth control. Seems like a pretty important side effect to mention... Felt like I was just sold random expensive products with no help from them on getting coupons to these outrageous prices. When I brought this problem up, they said they would get me discounts on the prescriptions if I reached out to them after the orders were put in, but they conveniently never replied to my messages. I have received treatments from medi-spas in San Francisco, New York and Sydney and this is the first time I've been charged for pain management. I've been going to Germain on and off for 3 years now. The waiting room is immaculate, and I love that they have a Keurig out there so you can make yourself some coffee or hot cocoa while you're waiting for your appt. I have seen PA Holly Carter on every visit and she has a great bedside manner. They removed a questionable mole on my most recent visit, and since this was the first time I'd ever had that done, I was extremely anxious. Holly went out of her way to calm me and explain in detail everything that was happening so I knew what to expect. It really helped ease my nerves. We're still struggling with fixing my face. No one told my skin that I'm almost 30, so it's still breaking out like I'm 15. Hopefully we'll be able to fix it without me having to do anything too drastic! read more

I had a few consultations for coolsculpting around the Charleston area. As I was driving home one day I saw the billboard for Germain coolsculpting and decided to get one final consult. Thank goodness I drove by this. I couldn't be happier with my decision to get coolsculpting with Germain dermatology. I met with Lauren B who's knowledge about the product was second to none. She was extremely informative and actually took time to explain the science behind it. In an age where patient care is driven so much by quantity and patient turnover, it was nice to have a provider care and truly listen. Another thing I loved about Lauren is that she took the time to determine which "fit" would be best for me. Several other places had a one size fits all system, but Germain customizes to the patients needs. The process itself was extremely relaxing. Lauren checked in several times to make sure I was doing well and felt comfortable. There was minimal pain and no down time. I went right back to work later that day without a problem. I ended up having two treatments in total and couldn't be happier with the results. Prior to having coolsculpting, I was embarrassed to go to the beach or lay by the pool. Thanks to Germain my confidence is at an all time high and I can truly enjoy the Charleston summers. Germain Dermatology really lived up to their reputation as #1 coolsculpting in South Carolina. Dr. Germain's overpriced products are not worth it! The ingredients are questionable and not even listed on the website. If you'd like to see the ingredient list for the problem skin cleanser, see the photos below. First of all, the cleanser has fragrance, red #40, and yellow #5. Dyes and fragrances are irritating and shouldn't be in skincare created and sold by a dermatologist. Second, the product has salicylic acid AND glycolic acid. Both are chemical exfoliants which most dermatologists say to avoid while using prescription retinoids. The fact that Dr. Germain created and sells a product that is very irritating doesn't sit well with me. read more

I went to her for Botox as (I have several times before). This time she was having a lot of pain with a hip surgery that had gone wrong . she eased me into a total reclining position (in the past I was semi reclining ) she plunged the needles close to my eyes and hurt me. The next day that eye was bloodshot red and I had excruciating head aches. When I called the office they said that this was common . After 5 days , my eye and head didn't improve. She said that these injuries didn't occur in her office. She did refer me a fellow doctor who did Botox. He assured me all would clear. She refused responsibly . I'd never go back , the injury was scary and so was her attitude. I was lucky . What if the eye was permanently damaged. I think she made errors because she was in pain But still not responsible behavior. It TurnEd out that she and the doctor she went to were good friends. scary. read more

I am writing this review as a common sense warning to anyone who might be considering the Coolsculpting procedure. Although it is FDA approved, and prior to seeking a consultation, I read positive reviews, it did not work for me at all. I will stop here and say the following: Germain staff was nothing but professional with me and I have no doubt that the procedure was completed properly. However, I think that even though I may be a minority, I wanted to warn that it could happen to you. Even though at consultation, I was told I was an ideal candidate (I am active, a runner and am lean except for a spare tire around my waist), there is no scientific test that they can execute to say with 100% certainty that your body will take to the technique. Because I am active, I saw this as an ideal approach to target this problem area that I have had for about 15 years. I opted to do eight treatments at once, which would take about 4 hours. I was told that the treatment and recovery would be low levels of discomfort. Not true. The treatment was not horrible, except for the point between two treatments where they would massage out the area the treatment was applied. THAT was horrendous... Brought involuntary tears to my eyes. The recovery part produced crazy bruising, lack of sleep for a week, muscle spasms and numbness for about three weeks. I was told that the treatment would take about 90 days to see full results. After a month of recovery, I resumed my running routine, running 12 to 15 miles a week, running a half marathon and losing 12 lbs. I didn't see or feel any results after 90 days. In fact, despite my weight loss, my pants were slightly more snug than they were before. After 120 days, I went in for follow up. After viewing my before and after pics, my consultant, in an unguarded moment, said that my stomach area looks worse than it did before...and it does. It looks like some of the fat from my midsection did not leave my body, but transferred to the front. After back and forth, we came to an arrangement for a partial refund. This review is not meant to be a smear campaign... I think the office is well run with well meaning people. But...buyer beware. What happened to me, could happen to you. Seven months later, and 17 lbs lighter, I still have an alarming jiggle in my belly that is disproportionate to the rest of my body. I am now seeking lipo treatment to hopefully, and finally, get rid of this stubborn fat in my midsection. read more

If you are considering a cosmetic dermatology procedure, I highly recommend Dr Germain's practice in Mt Pleasant. Yesterday I had cool sculpting to the love handles I've endured since I was in middle school (I'm 56 yo, 5/5", 130#). I thought long and hard about spending my hard earned money on a procedure with an unknown outcome. After on-line investigation and attending Dr Germain's informational session, I understood that this procedure works, but each person's result can be different. I have 3 months to wait for the final result... With cool sculpting, each application of a gel pad and the mashing/suction device is a "cycle". I had 4 cycles - one to the fat at the back of my waist and another on the side of my waist, on both sides. I wore one device on both sides for about an hour, had those areas "fat cracked" (something like that), took a small break, then did the other pair of areas. I was there from 10-1. It was not without a little discomfort, but I had no pain. When I finished my session at one o'clock I put on the shorts in arrived in, went for lunch, then went to the Outlet Mall for a bit of shopping since I live more than an hour away from any good stores! Once I was finished with the cool sculpting, the areas in the back that were squeezed felt strange and numb, and are still numb today. I was told by Lauren, who did the procedure, that this may last for several weeks. I have some redness in the areas, but no bruising. There was essentially no wait when I arrived for my appointment. I changed into a hospital gown and my pajama pants. Lauren marked the target areas as a surgeon does for a procedure, she took multiple photos, then got right to hooking up the machines. The gel pads are very cold but that faded fast. When the cool sculpting device is placed on your skin you feel suction and pulling, which I felt more in the area that was just outside the paddle. I felt kind of yuk when each side first started, but I tried to relax and after less than a half a minute I settled right into it. I read magazines, watched some Netflix, and had a light snack. Lauren did not stay with me but left a call button for needs. As I said, this procedure was not painful to me, but by close to the end of the last hour my rear end was getting tired of sitting in one position and I was ready for the session to be over. As for the noisy fat-cracker, I didn't feel anything from it unless it was close to my hip bones in the front, and then it was just a vibration. I have been a cosmetic patient of Dr Germain's for several years, but have only had some Botox and filler injections prior to yesterday's session. I used to go in and tell her what I wanted injected, but I now trust her judgement to suggest what she feels will be best for my very thin aging face. I have a limited budget to use for such follies and she does not try to talk me into spending more or doing more than what I'm planning. I'm very pleased with the subtle, professional-looking results! Dr Germain does not remain in the room long, but is always pleasant. As a medical professional, I know that in busy practices the doctor usually does not stand still for very long anywhere. However, she was very relaxed and conversant at the after hours information session once the rush of the day was over. Again, I would highly recommend Dr Germain for cosmetic dermatology. In my experience, she and her staff provide a professional result in a pleasant atmosphere. read more

I went to see Dr Germain for a mole check and adult acne. The nurse that consulted with me was very nice. Dr Germain came into the room looked at me for less than 5 minutes and wrote me a prescription for spironolactone and for a cream that cost over $500!! She knew I was not using insurance and still wrote me recommended a cream that cost over $500. She never explained the side effects of the spironolactone. After taking the medication for a week I experienced very serious and dangerous side effects. She did not take the time to actually listen to me. She just gave me a quick fix. I called her office to ask for Retin A instead of the $500 cream which they would not do. If you are looking for actually treatment do not go to this doctor as she only give very expensive and dangerous quick fixes. read more

Everything from A to Z was wrong with my appointment. I asked for an appointment for a full body scan. Just moved to Pawleys Island SC. The appointment started 45 minutes late. Doctor (not PA) spent less than 30 seconds barely looking at any part of my body. I had 2 areas that needed scraped. Doctor said it would only take seconds to do. I waited, he left the room, and then I was told to schedule another appointment to have it done! Are you kidding me? Any other dermatologist I've had, did it right then & there. There was no real effort to schedule that appointment. It's obvious with the shelves of products with their name that this is for Cosmetics, not real dermatology. What a complete waste of time! Jessica, in the Summerville office, performed the laser treatments for my vericose veins due to rosacea. She was super sweet, professional, and I'd recommend her (and well as the treatment) to anybody needing this type of procedure. Wonderful job! The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because my phone and e-mail were constantly spammed regarding appointments, even after replying per the prompts. Went in for acne issues and the doctor didn't bother hearing my history or issues, she took a 10 second glance at my face and prescribed a topical ointment and tried to sell me some of their own products which was fine at the time but their priorities definitely seemed to lie else where. I used the ointment twice and a day after I woke to extremely red and irritated skin that hurt to the touch and stung painfully when applying any product to my face. When I called and tried to get help for this all they tried to do was sell me another one of their own products and didn't seem to care at all about the pain and embarrassment I now had with my skin. read more

Dr. Kmetz is all about money. I made an appointment for skin check and skin tag removal. She told me once I was there it was $165per skin tag and that it was not covered by Medicare. That is incorrect. Medicare does pay for removal . Her charge was over $300.00. I went to another dermatologist and all my issues were addressed, multiple skin tags removed and at no charge to me. I strongly suggest seniors shop around. I will never go back to Germain dermatology. read more
