I had a great, respectful and mindful experience with Island Dermatology, their staff and the Dr.

I've went to Lowcountry Derma for about two years and usually saw Carrie Zipperer PA. She handled…read morevery minor things, so for the most part, my experiences were positive. That was until a few months ago when Dr. Wilson (who is no longer there) removed a very small benign mass from under my skin. Before removing I confirmed that it would be stitched and that it should take around two weeks to close. I was told yes to both, so I went ahead and had it done. After the procedure I was told I could shower normally 24 hours later and keep it covered with regular bandaids until I had the stitches removed. I followed the instructions exactly. At two weeks I saw a medical tech for the suture removal, but before allowing her to remove them--confirmed that the wound looked good and closed. She said it was. Fast-forward two days when I started to feel pain in the area (after just sweeping my porch). The wound OPENED up! I went back and saw the PA and she advised that yes, it had opened up and that it may be infected. She gave me a cream and told me that I'd be healed in a week. Again, I followed her instructions exactly. A week later it looked even worse. At that point I didn't trust anyone there so I made an appointment with a wound care center. SIX weeks later I'm still dealing with the aftermath. This story has a lot more medical details, but to make a long story short--from too few stitches being put in, telling me I could get it wet just 24 hours after, stitches being removed too soon, not taking care of the wound properly after it reopened, and having me use bandages that were causing terrible irritation to my skin--Lowcountry Derma got everything wrong. Depending on what you need a derma for--be careful here.

He asked can they be here? It's how they learn, with a line of students so long, it led out the room-leaving the door wide open. I said um sure? I felt that was unprofessional. Not giving my doctor time to ask me permission & pressured me into saying yes to all his students. He had no knowledge of my history & proceeded to try to sell me on acne treatments when my current treatment had nothing to do with acne. I was polite despite the awkward situation he created. I no longer am a patient there. I usually have good experience here but after that, I'm not going back. My docs were amazing to work with though, wish I was able to rate them officially on their site but the emails I got to review my experiences were addressed to other doctors I never worked with- that needs fixing, don't know how that happened there.

She skipped the upper portion of the bikini, and when I asked her if she would do that (standard for a bikini treatment), she reminded me what a good deal I got, and then begrudgingly did it, while saying, "You know what a good deal you got, right?" This was around the same time that she started picking out my flaws, noting sun damage in specific places and trying to sell additional treatments. Then, when the treatment was over, she left while I was putting my clothes back on. A few moments later, she re-entered the room without knocking. I was standing there in my bra and without another stitch on my body. I paused and looked up and said, "Oh... hi," as she continued to enter the room. She waved me off and said, "Don't worry, I've seen it all," and proceeded to show me their treatment price list. Mind you, I'm not an overly modest person, but I found it rude that SHE told me it was ok for her to come in while I was mostly naked. I hadn't even been exposed that much during the treatment itself! So, I'm not a big fan of the establishment. I wish I had caught the lady's name so I could reference her specifically!! She was a White, middle-aged woman with blondish hair. Sorry, that's all I got. Probably because she also did not introduce herself. Go somewhere else.
