I called to make an appointment as a new patient for a head transplant toe exam. I left a message & spoke with someone on a return call. During the call, she asked & received not only my name, birthday, home address, insurance & supplemental insurance information. She then requested credit card information prior to making an appointment. I requested to bring the credit card at my first appointment. She informed me that a credit card or access to my HSA. Was required PRIOR to setting the appointment. She said it was office and policy. I do not provide credit card information over the phone ... personal policy. IMHO, this financial office policy for new patients PRIOR to making an appointment should be weighed along with expected patient care, when selecting a dermatology practice. read more

Very frustrating experience trying to simply schedule an appointment with Sheperd Integrative Dermatology. My wife has been trying since Monday, and it is now Wednesday afternoon with no return phone call. The biggest issue is that you can't actually reach a person. The text messaging system just sends you in circles without getting the appointment scheduled or connecting you with someone who can help. I understand medical offices get busy, but going several days without being able to speak with someone or receive a callback just to schedule an appointment is extremely frustrating. read more

Visited 12/24 and had a balance of $160, which they helped themselves to from my bank account today, the whole amount at once. I didn't authorize it, they said they are entitled to do this........be careful what you sign at this place, they keep your card on file and then use it to help themselves to money. I would never go to this dermatologist again! MAJOR HIPAA VIOLATION!!! Either she or someone in her office disclosed (protected health information) without consent. I reported her and filed a complaint with the Board of Medical Examiners, Office of Investigations and Enforcement. SC Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation. I had a great experience here. I called to schedule an appointment and they were able to get me in the very next day. I was extremely nervous for my appointment because I had never had a full body skin check done. The doctor was very sweet and reassuring. She made me feel extremely comfortable and luckily everything looked great! Definitely recommend! read more

The practice is in a beautiful building filled with sparkly art. I came in for a thorough skin/mole check (melanoma family history) and consultation on very minor rosacea. Their gowns are tiny, fit for children or very thin women. My skin check was the least thorough I've ever experienced. I was encouraged to get on $300/month antibiotics, $300/month topicals, and start 6 lasers with peels (which I couldn't get a distinct price on but was told around $1500-200). I was continued to be pushed on laser and peels despite me showing how my skin (legs) reacted to previous ILP/laser treatments with hyperpigmentation and how my facial skin is far too sensitive for harsh peels. Look at my profile photos. My skin is not perfect but certainly not having those kinds of issues. I doubt I will be back for a follow-up visit. read more

Absolutely awful & unprofessional experience! I would definitely not recommend McClean or Amy for any reason or service. New to area & looking to discuss concerns after a treatment and was overcharged. They did not even have in my record when I had service or any notes regarding my calling in after. I had pain and an indentation ( that Amy had caused) that were significant but Amy did not make appropriate notes in my chart or even call me back. Follow up with McClean & she said that could not have happened and told me specifically " I must have memory problems". McClean got very angry because I questioned why her records were not accurate and lacking in any detail. She was more concerned with my shoes and handbag rather than my reason for me being there. The records, notes, or date of service were not documented correctly and that is a big red flag! McClean told me my story isn't making any sense regarding a timetable. We could not go off of the office records bc they were missing! I questioned to MrClean where my records and dates of service /notes were in the portal were and the nurse said "they were not documented correctly bc she could not find them". McClean rolled her eyes and laughed then just walked out of the room. I never raised my voice or used profanity. After a few mins of me waiting on her (thinking McClean was coming back in the room), the office manager came and told me I need to leave and tried to make me go out a back door. She said if I don't leave they would call the police. I said for what? I had done nothing wrong and where simply telling her my concerns after a procedure that Amy had done. I asked again for my records but was told they were in my portal. By the time I got home to look they had deactivated my portal account. I am still a loss for words how this even happened and the unprofessional manner in which they handled themselves was unbelievably shocking. If you want quality care/ professionalism with access to your own records and being able to voice your concerns as a patient... I would take your time/ money elsewhere and choose an entirely different establishment altogether. read more

Do not go here! I was there on Tuesday, 12/6 for a botox for gummy smile treatment and now my entire face is stiff. I can barely smile and my upper lip is hanging so low, you can barely see my teeth when I open my mouth. Rebecca, the PA, gave me 8 units of botox. I paid $100 to look like this for the next however months and Christmas is next week. I am so upset because there's nothing that can be done to fix it. I just have to wait it out. read more

A beautiful facility catering to Mt Pleasant's beautiful people. However, this will be My last visit to this incredibly insensitive practice. I admit I'm 50 pounds over weight (and losing) but for the second time in two visits the staff handed me a Small gown size. When ask for something larger they brought me an even smaller size. It is bad enough that a "doctor" and a friend are going to go over your entire naked body, but this practice doesn't even attempt to allow the patient any dignity at all. read more

Horrifying. During my recent annual skin cancer check, Dr. Sheperd performed what she said was going to be a simple biopsy on the top of my ear. Instead, she wound up taking out a large chunk of my ear, which changed the shape of my ear and left a permanent scar. Even worse, when I got home, my husband told me that the spot she cut away had been there for 20 years. Yet Dr. Sheperd was somehow unaware that the spot had been there despite having conducted my annual skin checks for the previous four years. To add insult to injury (literally), Dr. Sheperd would not return my phone calls despite my repeated requests both on her voicemail and via her office manager. The office manager, Erica, responded to my concerns by trying anything she could to sidestep the issue, including telling me that Dr. Sheperd was the valedictorian of her class. Not only is this completely irrelevant, it further undermined my confidence in this practice and their philosophy of patient care: in the face of an upset and confused patient, Erica set forth a class ranking as a proof point meant to dissolve the original query for why Dr. Sheperd performed this biopsy in the first place and cut away such a sizable amount of tissue (not to mention caused six weeks of unnecessary pain). My experience with Dr. Sheperd was both harmful and deeply disappointing. read more

As if you need another reason to visit Charleston, Sheperd Integrative Dermatology makes the trip even more special. They just went through a new re-design and the place looks and feels absolutely stunning. Everything is so well thought out there that despite being in the city, it almost has a calming spiritual aspect from the moment you pull onto the property. The exterior has a couple giant welcoming oaks and a Zen garden labyrinth for a walking meditation. The staff is extremely professional and works in concert to provide amazing service. The interior is gorgeously decorated in a modern, chic but somehow very calming manner that encourages it's patients to relax and take deep breathes. 10/10 Would visit again and will visit again! read more

Very disappointed. I was told that Voluma would last two years and it clearly doesn't. The IPL was ineffective. I think their laser was not strong enough. The Piccosure is the laser of choice for IPL. So I wasted my money (and bought a package!) and got minimal results, leaving money on the table. Not happy . Liz Leffel read more

Really bad. By the way, she changed her practice name from Dr. "Stith" to Dr. "Shepard". I waited for almost 45 minutes the first time, after calling to check that she was running on time. I'll give most places the benefit of the doubt the first time. When I went back the second time, they made me wait almost an hour. The third time (and the last) was again an hour. That alone is bad for a dermatologist's office (no emergencies that walk in last minute). But the finally straw was Dr. Shepard/Stith's absolute arrogance. She is inconsiderate of her patients, full of herself, and unprofessional once she finally does get around to seeing you. You're lucky if she spends 8 minutes with you. To be fair to the others in her office, and to end on a positive note, her staff was nice. That's about all I can find that's positive, though. read more

Great experience! This place was referred to me by a friend and co-worker (I would normally not drive all the way to Mt. P for an appt). To get an appointment at other derms, it would be 2 to 3 months so I was pleasantly surprised when I got an appointment for the following week. When I arrived, I couldn't believe how nice the building and decor is - it was almost intimidating (pretty fancy), but the feeling went away once I checked in. As a new patient, I would advise printing out the forms from their website and fill them out to bring with you. Check in was a snap and I was called back within a few minutes. The staff was very friendly. I had a full body skin check and they were very efficient. I was in and out within 15-20 minutes. read more

Dr. Sheperd is a sharp, caring, and pleasant derm! She has been my dermatologist for years and has done everything from removing suspicious moles (leaving no scars) to providing laser therapy for accidental cuts and providing fillers for my face. My friend is a patient at Sheperd Integrative Dermatology clinic. The esthetician is Margaret Gierhart, LE. She is gentle and very knowledgeable about skin issues as well as products. Margaret took the time to let me know that since I still breastfeed that I needed to make sure certain chemicals aren't in the skin products I use and that I would have to wait to address a few skin issues. She also explained the team environment at the clinic. I was so happy when I came home, my husband has already bought me a follow-up certificate because he knows the challenges I've had in the past finding a good esthetician. I saw Dr. Sheperd on 2/3/2016 for a strange reaction to a cortisone injection administered by another doctor in another state. She was recommended to me by a local pharmacist. I spent 2 hours and 15 minutes in her office during which she and an assistant worked diligently with me to resolve my problem. She thinks outside of the box and is addressing the problem from a variety of angles. Not only was she conscientious and even creative about treatment, she was also savvy about where to purchase the medications at the best price. I have worked with many doctors over the years because of a chronic illness and my experience with Dr. Sheperd and her staff exceeded my expectations. read more

I have been twice for a skin check (that took exactly 5 minutes) and had the exact same 2 spots burned off each time. In 2016 they coded it so that I was not charged anything. In 2017 they coded it so that I was charged almost $200. I have called and asked for an explanation multiple times and cannot get one. Pay up is all they say. Worst customer service ever. read more

Dr. Sheperd and her nurse were absolutely wonderful. However, the billing department is inept at properly calculating your bill when you settle up. I have BCBS and have never been sent a bill after I have been seen at a doctor or dentist. This office managed to tally up the charges wrong TWICE in a row. Every medical practice I have been to has the ability to check benefits and enter the proper codes to get a true bill. Dr Sheperd's office sent me two additional bills for each of my visits. When I contacted them, by mail, the billing department gave no apologies and blamed my insurance company for it. If every other practice I have been to can adequately figure out the bill prior to insurance submission, this office is lacking. By the end of the phone call, there still was no responsibility taken by her billing department for their sub par billing practices, which resulted in almost $200 in additional charges. I had paid the $150 but am contesting the second bill. Additionally, you can't get an appointment card there. My appointments were scribbled, by me, on the back of the care sheet I was given. For such a large and successful practice, the office staff needs to step it up to present a better image for Dr. Sheperd. read more

On my first visit to Dr. Sheperd, she gave me one of the most thorough skin checks ever. She had a very pleasant demeanor, though a bit reserved. She was careful when removing a suspicious growth on my nose, leaving no scar. She provided out of the box solutions to a rosacea issue. I felt as if she is more focused on being a physician than a cosmetic provider even though she has an outstanding cosmetic department, with a great staff - love Zach. For many years, she was the "go to" doctor for dermatological pathology. Her office staff has been very pleasant and professional. I walked into Dr. Sheperd's office very upset because a lip serum deflated my lips and took away some of my lip skin.Dr. Sheperd told me I should get lip injections and that Amy was very good. When I met Amy,she told me lips were her specialty and Restylane Silk would help restore my lip tissue. I set the appointment up with her for the following week.I was nervous and Amy promised me that she would not give me a duck lip. My first session was at the beginning of May,2017. In 7 days the only difference was that my top lip border was hanging over my lip and I could see the filler on the bottom lio border. It is orange and shimmery white. When I returned in 7 days ,she said,"I can fix it." She put more filler creating a hood on my right side of my upper lip. The left upper side of my border looked good,but the right and left side did not match. The bottom lip was filled out ,but the upper left corner fell short of meeting the bottom lip corner. I tried to make it work, but there were so many major errors in my injections that Amy Jetter did. I went back for a third time wanting my lip to have symmetry. She gave me a big roll over my upper lip border.The roll projects out creating a very big duck bill. Each time I have the lip injections my lip peel so it has been impossible for them to heal. Now it is the middle of July and instead of my lips being restored,my lips are deformed . Amy's only response is that she can dissolve anything I don't like. What was the point in me paying $600.00 for the injections in the first place? I went to a plastic surgeon last week. He took pictures and pointed out everything that was done wrong. Now,l am paying more money trying to get the thick roll above my lip to go away. I never wanted filler between my nose and lip. This is so stressful .I have left messages for Dr. Sheperd,but instead of returning my phone call,she mailed me a letter stating she and not any of her staff would never see me again.I will never understand why they do not care about my well being or my beauty.I don't understand why it is okay with Dr. Sheperd for Amy Jetter to deform my lips! I can't go anywhere .Amy has ruined my life with her lack of skill of doing Restylane Silk lip injections.I should of not trusted Dr.Sheperd or Amy Jetter! read more
