I rate Dr Hanna-Moussa as one of my very best--a high-performing, competent, and passionate doctor who is deeply committed to his work. I have been his grateful patient for many years. An example of his patient care is what just happened to me on my vacation to New England, when he rescued me after a Dexcom G7 BGM failed. His quick assistance and willingness to help were amazing. Here's what happened. I had packed one additional G7 for the trip. Because my current G7 got caught on clothing and was ripped off my arm, I inserted my new "spare" G7. That G7 BGM, upon insertion, had an immediate hardware failure- displaying a failed sensor; replace immediately. I had no other G7's with me. This all happened while: I was on vacation 2,800 miles away. There was a 3-hour time zone difference between Arizona and my vacation location on the East Coast. This happened at the worst of times, on a SUNDAY at 6:00 am Arizona time. Panic definitely set in. I started calling everyone. Most responses were "We are closed; call back during regular business hours, Monday through Friday." My PCP specifically advised me to keep appointments with two endocrinology centers because this specialty is difficult to schedule with and appointments can take a long time to obtain. Despite this, Elena berated me for having seen another endocrinologist, even though that visit had originally been for thyroid concerns before the pituitary tumor was discovered, being the reason for visiting Elena. I came to this consultation with lab work, imaging, prior test results, and a clear explanation of what had already been done. Elena performed no additional testing. She told me my insurance would likely not cover the visit and dismissed the possibility that the tumor was responsible for my symptoms because she considered it too small to be causing problems. What makes this especially concerning is that my PCP and other medical providers were able to review essentially the same information and recognize that a pituitary or hormonal disorder needed further investigation. My neurosurgeon's office also reviewed the information sent by my PCP and considered the situation concerning enough to move my appointment to an earlier date. Based on my experience, I do not believe Elena demonstrated the level of competence, judgment, or professionalism I would expect from an endocrinology provider evaluating a possible pituitary and hormonal disorder. She dismissed significant symptoms and existing test results without conducting a meaningful evaluation of her own. She also attempted to misinform me on insurance practices and procedures, and unprofessionally spoke on behalf of neurology practitioners. I left feeling disrespected, disregarded, and concerned that someone with similar situations could have an important condition dismissed rather than being properly investigated and given the proper medical attention. I would strongly recommend that others dealing with suspected pituitary tumors, complex hormonal problems, or similar conditions seek another provider.

A weight has been lifted! Not once during my appointment with her was she condescending or did I feel like I was not being taken seriously. Her personality and the way she presents herself is also very genuine and without airs which I appreciate. I was honest about my previous experiences and what I expected and we have outlined a nice course of treatment that we are both comfortable with. If you have hormonal issues don't waste your time with an MD or Endocrinologist. Office appointments are not covered by insurance but lab work is and it's worth the out of pocket expense to regain control of your health. Phoenix Integrative Medicine offers all of those lovely aesthetic treatments like botox and dermal fillers, HCG etc. While I don't use those services, I would be comfortable referring someone to them with the experience I had. My PCP sent my referral to another practice that called me the SAME DAY and scheduled me for an appointment in early December.
