I went in there needing a ring re-sized pronto, after being told it would be a two week wait my face must of dropped and they did it for me over night! Good old fashion customer service makes me happy!

For years I'd held onto a few pieces that need repair as I didn't know where to take them. I read…read moresome good reviews about this place on Yelp and thought I'd check it out in my lunch break. I felt comfortable as soon as I entered. This isn't a big glossy store with salespeople out the front and workman hidden out the back. It's a small space with three staff working behind a glass petition and a few pieces on sale in the display cabinets. I had a number of pieces but ended up only getting two pieces repaired this time - I had a battery replaced and links taken out of my grandma's Rado watch and a fine gold bracelet soldered. $35 all up and I got a text a week later saying they were ready for collection. They talked me through why some pieces weren't worth repairing unless they had sentimental value (labour far repair far exceeded value of piece). I'm holding onto those until I have extra funds. The address says 68 Grenfell Street but its easier to find if you enter Da Costa Arcade on the east side of Gawler Place.

I once bought a lovely sterling silver and garnet braclet from here and do wear it on occassions. It's a mini library and I can envisage a couple of tables and chairs out the front sipping a cup of tea or coffee, whilst my nose is stuck into the daily paper, a book or a magazine (which I have purchased first). If the owner has the time, energy or inclination to do this, then wow, and I'd like my commission of a coffee each time I visit thank you. I really hope Acacia Arts doesn't end up the same way Lola's Flowers did across the road, retirement or worse is a horrible thing to have to deal with! So I truly hope there is family to continue when the time comes to continue the name and not change too many things...I like you just the way you are Acacia Arts.

Yes, they have a collection of accessories and crafts, but what really got me all geeky was the books! Oh, secondhand bookstores, how I love thee! Increasingly rare, a store devoted purely to old and out of print books is a treasure trove of amazingness. Not only are the titles sure to be either niche, classic or rare (or all three), the prices are usually great and the physical act of browsing books in search of a new gem for the bookshelf is a delight. The smell of old books permeates Acacia in a welcoming way, and there are stacks and stacks of books to keep you browsing. From Tolstoy to lurid paperback novels from the '50s, there's bound to be something for book geeks in here, and the staff are also lovely and helpful.

It is opposite the public toilets inside the arcade on the Eastern side in the walkway that takes you out to Gawler Place. The Watch Doctor has recently featured on one of those television current affairs programs that burst in on people demanding they start talking about something they have done that is evidently untoward. I don't need to name the program, you can go to the Watch Doctors website for a full explanation of that situation. The website more or less tells what seems to be the truth, someone dropped a watch off to be fixed, the watch went missing and that is pretty much the whole story. Sad situation for the Watch Doctor, sadder for his client, because they lost their watch on the Watch Doctors watch, as it were. It is mainly for this reason that I'm saying I've seen better. I have seen watches go into repair shops and get repaired and return to their rightful owner. So yes on that score the Watch Doctor is a bit slack. That doesn't mean they don't sell a few things at reasonable prices, and that you can't check them out yourself. Make up your own mind. Unfortunately negative publicity can kill a business even if it isn't completely accurate. If you were hoping to have your watch fixed, maybe try somewhere else and get a quote and find out if it will be replaced if under any circumstances it goes missing. You can get a quote on a watch repair here, or a jewellery repair, you can browse the watches they have for sale and you can buy batteries for watches. Their position in the city is convenient for people working in the city - otherwise you'd find a local jeweller most likely who has never featured on a current affairs program that is a little dubious itself.

Well he did find it difficult and he bashed the backing plate off to replace the battery. It was only when I sat down for lunch that I noticed that the backing plate was dented and that upset me very much. He has no respect for other people's property and I would class his workmanship as very very poor. He is rough around the edges and he has no skill whatsoever. NEVER GOING BACK THERE !

WARNING! DO NOT BUY ONLINE FROM SHIELS!! I purchased an…read moreanniversary present online from Shiels Wednesday of last week. I even called to speak to a consultant before making the purchase to discuss the purchase. After one week I heard nothing, so I called to follow up & was promised a call back. I didn't get one, so the next day, I followed up again. Finally, I was told that someone else sold the item I bought & there was no other one available. What would've happened if I didn't follow up? As if that wasn't bad enough, I was then offered a lab grown diamond in place of the natural diamond product I purchased!! I offered other suggestions but was met with a rigid response, so I asked to speak to the online manager to work through a solution. She didn't even have the care to manage a phone call to resolve the situation. Just a throw away email a day & a half later. Now, nearly 10 days after my purchase, I receive an email advising that I'll get a refund.. which will take up to another 10 days. That's nearly 3 weeks before I can shop for an alternative, which means I will likely run out of time & have no present for a milestone anniversary. Thanks for turning a moment of celebration into a moment of stress Shiels!! Clearly we have different ideas of what "the leading jewellery retailer in Australia" means.

But there was something about you - maybe it is your foreign non-Australian accent, or the way you wear those jewels. You know the key to my heart is the finest diamonds in Adelaide, and even though you don't have it, you've told me where to go next! (Oh, you're the most honest salesperson I've ever met!) So please. Because of your honesty, I want you to have a walk around with me then I'll take you home under my arm. Diamonds, when I find you, you're mine....forever.
