I moved to NYC in October 2007. Since then, I'd been getting my haircut by someone recommended to me by a friend, and she did a really good job. In November 2008 my boyfriend and I became engaged. Since we're simple people we decided we were just going to elope and have a ceremony with just the two of us, a witness and the officiant. We planned the wedding for Februrary 20th. However, turns out my hairdresser didn't do updos.
Then the scrambling began, trying to do all the planning, find someone to do my makeup, hair etc. I went on Yelp and after much internal struggling, went with the great reviews as well as my gut and decided on K's Salon.
I got to the salon after having my makeup done at Bobbi Brown at Bloomingdale's. There was a major time crunch. My makeup was at 10am, hair appt. at 11:30am and ceremony at 1pm. When I got to the salon, my future hubby was already there getting his haircut. I had photos of the hairstyle I thought would work with my dress and the look of our outfits overall (kind of a retro pin-up look). K sat me in the hair, asked me what I wanted and at what time the wedding was. I told her it was at 1pm and showed her the printouts of what I 'thought' I wanted. She totally understood, but told me she had a better idea and knew where I was headed with mine. Immediately, both K and her daughter got to work and because of the time constraints, I think there may have actually been about 3 people involved in the whole process. The minute they started on me, I felt so confident that everything was going to turn out beautifully. By the time they were done (in about 45 mins.), I honestly had no words.
I took a huge chance on K's Salon, trusting them to help me look my best on the most important day of my life... and it truly paid off. I was so happy I almost cried, but I didn't want to ruin my makeup and I was too nervous about making it to the ceremony on time to focus on all the emotions bubbling up. It feels as though everyone was involved in the process, from the super friendly receptionist, the supportive other salon stylists (who weren't even the ones doing my hair!), and even the patrons there. Having my hair done at K's was a great experience that will forever remain a part of the special memories of my wedding day.
Thanks so much to you and your staff K! I highly recommend K's Salon, with absolutely no reservations.
And as a follow-up, I went to get my haircut there last week and sat with Arthur... yet another fantastic experience. I left there with exactly what I had wanted/envisioned and walked out feeling just lovely! I mean, that's how every person should feel when they leave a salon, right? read more
