As the mother of the groom at a recent wedding Reverend O'Grady performed, I was totally disgusted by the way he conducted the rehearsal. He was very bossy and used a condescending tone when speaking to the bridal party, in addition to the bride and groom. The bride and groom were not asked about their preferences as to how they would like things done. The Reverend was fixated on positioning for the photo's, even though a professional photographer had been hired. I felt like we were in the military and he was "ordering" everyone around. Needless to say, everyone was relieved when the rehearsal ended. Following the rehearsal, my son gave their $250 donation To the Reverend and was told the amount was not enough. The Reverend Advised his fee is $450. Needless to say, my son was surprised by this comment, as no where on the paperwork given to them did it talk about a "fee" or even a specific monetary amount. He and his fiancée had researched the customary wedding donations on the Internet and found them to be between $100 - $250. Therefore, they thought their donation would be acceptable. On the day of the wedding I was approached by the Reverend for the remaining balance he felt was due to him. I gave him $50, to which he replied was not enough. He told me his fee was $450 and that my son had given him $200 the day before. Knowing he received, I told him I knew he was given $250 and his contract only referred to a "donation" and didn't mention a "fee" or ant specific dollar amount. He advised he wasn't going to discuss it with me and went off to find my son. After a brief discussion with my son and his father, we were told the Reverend would not perform the ceremony unless the remaining balance was paid. Seriously, a "Man of God" is going to pull a stunt like this one hour before the ceremony is to begin with close to 150 guests. Shame on him. Furthermore, he brought the marriage license into the bride and advised we didn't need to go through the ceremony, as legally on paper they we're married. That way they could get the party started early. The arrogance and greediness of this man is despictable. What kind of a minister makes a comment to a bride in front of all the bridesmaids and both mothers. Clearly this is only a business venture to him and he really doesn't care about the sanctity of marriage. My suggestion to anyone considering Reverend O'Greedy to officiate their wedding is to get in writing the "expected donation" mind you that is really a "fee" that must be paid in cash. How convenient for him to only accept his "donation" aka a "fee" in the form of cash only. Really, what a convenient way to avoid paying taxes to IRS. Just remember what goes around comes around in life. If the rumor is true that he will no longer be allowed to perform sevices at Greystone, one must ask themselves if the greediness in the end was worth it. I guess only the good Reverend and God know the answer to that question. read more
