The trail was well maintained and easy for walking although it was called as "moderate" in some other mobile apps. All the trail signs are clear and easy to follow. When getting to the top of Holt hill, you will be amazed by the Boston skyline without occlusion. Compared to the breathtaking view at Holt hill, the one at the top of Boston hill slightly disappoints me. It is still an enjoyable walk surrounded by the view of the sunset, but the skyline is missing. You may not get too much out of the elephant rock. Again, overall it is a fantastic place for walking, jogging, and biking.

I don't know if the type of vacation (hiking and camping) helped to self select the people but by the end of the week we had gotten really close as a group. SUP YO also picked amazing guides. They were fun, funny, knowledgeable, and basically one of the gang with guide authority. The owner of the company came with us on this trip. She was fun, did everything we did, never put on any airs, and I felt like she was "one of us.". All of the food, hotel, etc was taken care of. We even celebrated a birthday for one one of the hikers in the group! I am looking for more trips to go on with SUP YO and a group of us are planning to go in another trip or a weekend hike together again!!

What a treasure. My…read moreson brought me here a cold early morning to meet the birds. We went and when we stood still and help some bird food in our hands, they came and ate out of them. The trails are well kept up and so good to be around. We found some of the layered ice pieces that look like Lacey ice. This is a great outing, even if you are not from around here. I think being there early (8 am) helped since we were alone on the trails. Check it out.

The dozens of species of birds are not shy; the frogs, turtles, rabbits, red squirrels, chipmunks, etc., aren't all that shy either! It has a nicely set up learning center ( and classes) for kids, plus canoes for rental if that's your thing. Mandatory warnings: use bug spray and, especially, wear long pants to ward off ticks. And be prepared for a slightly tricky narrow road ending in an often-crowded parking lot. As for the cost: get yourself an Audubon membership and entry will be free, plus you'll be supporting good conservation work.

Don't let the others reviews whining about dog poop deter you. The only litter I saw was near the…read moreentrance of the trail (ironically where the only trash bin I saw was since people are lazy). I swear, too many people use Yelp just to complain. I appreciate how well-marked the trails are here. There are many signs and color markings on trees to tell you what trail you're on and the intersections with other trails. The trails aren't too steep but there are a lot of tree roots so be sure to watch your step. There are nice views of Lake Cochichewet along the trails and at least one bench nearby so you can relax and enjoy the view. I did see one off-leash dog so I can see how that would be annoying. Thankfully the dog was friendly and all the other dogs I saw were leashed. I brought my dog on a leash and he enjoyed the walk. Parking lot is a little small but it's free. I plan to come here with my dog again and explore the other trails.

I do not think it gets much better than this considering that you only have to go about 40 minutes out of the city. I saw a river otter within 10 minutes of parking my car and getting out! I believe most of this forest is along Harold Parker road and there is small dirt lots you can park on along this road.

Absolutely gorgeous, peaceful, easy swamp trail walk. There is a small parking area off of…read moreTopsfield Road. Wide gravel trail paths head both directions and there are several walks to choose. I opted for the trail down to the swamp walk. It's about .3 of a mile to the swamp walk and then the swamp walk itself is about .3 of a mile. I did the swamp walk twice so my total walk twice around, there and back was 1.3 miles. Lots of shade on the trail to and from, but the swamp walk is mostly sun. The boardwalk areas are sturdy, but a little uneven and slanted in places so you do want to use some caution. There are several stops with benches to take in the scenery. The swamp walk is absolutely beautiful. So quiet and serene. I went in July and saw tons of turtles, birds and even a beaver!
