Fair amount of equipment and a great pool. Good park right next to it but I would like to see a distance marker at the entrance to the outdoor running track. I really dislike all the fans blowing all the time. It's like hurricane blowing constantly. Because it really serves what seems to be an elderly population I don't really see a lot of sweat and I figure most people come here for the community. If you're self guided you can figure out a good routine. All in all it's a good value for the money and I'm glad it's available as I really don't like most corporate gyms. read more

It's a decent gym and has what you need. It's $30 for an individual plus the cost of childcare. If you go 5 times a week (20 passes a month) it's $40 on top of the $30. If you wanted to make the drive, crunch fitness is better for your money. Price is @$35/month including childcare. I chose this gym because of the predatory habits of regular gyms. Georgetown Rec Center is TRUELY month to month, cancel anytime without the hassle and regular "gym maintenance fees" and the childcare staff are friendly. (We left crunch because the childcare staff weren't friendly and were basically robots. No communication and just threw a tablet in their hands and sat back down). GRC staff for the childcare are awesome and actually engaged with the kids. We came back for them! read more

This review is only for the outdoor pool area. My mom friends and I were going to meet up for a playdate but I couldn't figure out a place that was fun but had AC or a something water related. I started searching and found the rec center, so glad I did! They charge a daily visitor pass to use the facilities. If you're only using the outdoor pool it's $3 for adults and $2 for children. A STEAL. We showed up, found a spot with shade, put our stuff down and went straight to the water. Their play area is great because it's all shallow and they have the 4ft portion of the pool sectioned off. When we were there I counted 4 lifeguards on at the same time, it seems like a lot but I'm just grateful that safety is a priority. They break at 5 till 5:15, everyone gets out of the pool during that time and I used it as a much needed snack break. There are 4 big slides that go into the 4ft section, a small slide in the shallow area, a mushroom thing that shoots water, buckets that drop water on you, you get the gist. Oh! They also had some fun music playing and it felt like a pool party. If you're in need of a cheap way to keep your kids cool and entertained- this is it. I can't speak for the rest of it but the outdoor pool was great. read more

Rude front staff. No one is nice. The lifeguards are a bunch of little kids who are rude and pick on the kids. The bald man in charge of the lifeguards is very angry and rude all the time. He gives dirty looks to everyone. I made a complaint in the front now it's gotten worse. I had my kids in swimming lessons and want to pull them out. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. read more

Good Basketball Court but my main issue as of right now is I can't play by myself and train by myself because a group of at least 10+ people come daily and make it impossible to really practice and they always play full court for some dumb reason. And I don't mean genuine full court i mean side to side cramped terrible basketball conditions, it's hard to have fun, but if you show up early it's worth it I guess. read more

Recommend to come here from my new housing complex I moved into. Called today (6/16/22 at 2:55pm) to figure out how their membership works, woman who answered was sooo condescendingly rude I told her that I see why they have such terrible reviews and asked to speak to another customer service rep who isn't having such a bad day. Without a word, she put me on hold. I don't have high hopes. After 10 minutes, I'll be hanging up. Even though this is less than two miles from my home and I have three young kids who love to swim AND I would be reimbursed for the cost of my membership, I still moved to Texas for friendly people. If I wanted to be surrounded by miserable people, I would've stayed in WA. Updated to add that after 13 minutes on hold, the same grouch picked up and promptly hung up on me. Had to reason with myself before posting this. It annoyed me that much I had to give it a star. I showed up with my son to use their pool. We were promptly informed we couldn't use his floatie because the receptionist didn't think it's coast guard approved, as she shoves life jackets at us. My son doesn't need a life jacket. We brought the float because it's a pirate ship. He got it for Christmas and really wanted to use it. So his pirate ship float is now out but he still wanted to swim. We go to the pool - it's only saving grace. The pool is nice. The life guards stood poised over us to blow their whistle because my son is swimming by himself, underwater, no life jacket. He's done this a few times, folks... but at the end of the day, I was close to him and playing with him so they didn't get the opportunity to kick us out. I notice a swimming lesson sign. Contact Kenley Gaynor for more information. I dialed the number given and attempted to use the voice/name recognition option to get to her voicemail box. No dice. It kept coming up with every name other than Kenley's. I gave up and called the recreation center. Sherry (Sherrie?) answers the phone.... I explained what I was trying to do and the trouble I had with their voice recognition. Sherry tells me she's going to put me on hold and try to transfer me. FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER I am still on hold. So I hang up and call back and who should promptly answer but Sherry again. She could have given me an extension number or told me to go f myself... or simply pick up the dang phone and say something. Any of the above would have been a more efficient use of my time. Zero fun pool zone and rude staff. I'll pass. read more

I really love this facility! I utilize the swimming pool for water aerobics classes and water walking with weights. Carol is a wonderful water aerobics instructor and I wish she taught another evening class! I get the best workout without killing my joints. We have some very dedicated and wonderful swim class buddies. The front office staff is very welcoming and friendly. I think they could use another person to handle customers from 5:00-7:30 PM. It gets really busy and there's a wait! I am very happy I joined the GRC. read more

I took my kids here to swim and we were so disappointed. For kids ages 12-17, they cannot go on the slides. I know those slides could support their weight because my kids are tall but thin. Since they are tall, the shallow part of the pool that they can access, (unless you're there to swim laps) is too shallow. The deepest part of the outdoor pool is the area where the kids enter the water off the slides. It's not an area designated for swim. This place caters to young children and competitive swimmers. My kids have no desire to swim laps - they just want to free swim. They're not interested in the splash pad, understandably. I took them to Veterans Memorial Pool last year and they have a diving board and a slide that anyone of any age can use. They have water basketball, plenty of open swim areas for older children and they had tons of fun. The Center and pool were very clean. The restroom was very clean - for the amount of people at the center, this was a nice surprise. If this place had an open swim area in the 5ft, allowed teens to use the slides and were more appealing to the 12-17 age group, we wouldn't have any complaints. read more

Very disappointed!!! Full disclosure for over 20+ years I have mentored kids through basketball. The cool part is I get to work with my 3 sons as they strive to pursue their dreams... It has been great Father and Son bonding time. Today while mentoring my three sons and a couple of their friends I was approached by the supervisor. Her words to me where you cannot train kids here. I explained to her that I was working with my sons and their friends and I'm not charging anybody. Mind you I pay a monthly membership fee and I'm investing my time into my kids and their friends who all pay for a membership there. The supervisor said I googled you and I know you're a trainer. I wonder if she googles every Father that comes there with his son or daughter? Be advised if you work with your kids you might be googled!!! Sadly I will not be going back to Georgetown rec center it's unfortunate because I'm a part of the Georgetown community. If this is considered great service it's not a place that I would ever want to invest money. "Perception is reality is what she said to me" and I said to her reality is reality and the reality is my three sons and their friends who I was working with today don't pay me a dime to sow into their lives. What an absolute gem of a facility Georgetown has built for the community. The indoor pool is sparkling clean, there are large TV's all over the weight room. Getting a machine to do some cardio on was easy. Everything is spotless clean and it appeared that all the machines work. The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and informative. I will be back! We've used this Rec center on and off over the years. We are non residents but their rates are so reasonable. My son is currently taking swim lessons and the staff is great. Love the indoor pool. Love the sprinkler pool. This place is never super crowded either! read more

This wonderful facility has literally put me back on my feet! After both hips replaced I began going to the Silver Sneakers classes that are offered here free to 55+ with a membership. Membership is just $15 month. I also love using the pool. The staff and instructors, lifeguards all so very nice. There are racquetball courts, two gyms, indoor walking, workout equipment that's never too crowded. They are adjacent to the beautiful Georgetown Trail system along the San Gabriel River. Lots of programs, camps and activities for all ages. read more

Thank you Georgetown! Thank you for finally updating the rec center. If you were around last year you know just what I'm talking about. The new and improved rec center rocks! The equipment is new, the building is pristine, and the views are so pretty (thank you so much for all the windows!). All of the cardio equipment is lined up overlooking the pool area and the wooded area beyond the pool. There are tvs, free weights, and machines. Impressive. Upstairs is an indoor tracks, rooms for classes and a spin area (oddly though, it's not in a room, just bikes in a semi-circle outside of an aerobics room). Leesa and Laura are great spin instructors if you care to partake. I don't have kids, but this morning there was a 3-year old in a dead sprint to get to the day care facility, clearly it's a hit with the youngins. Way to go Gtown! read more

I was excited when I moved back to see that the Rec Center had expanded, but in reality -- it became a baby sitting clinic. Parents just simply drop their kids off and leave them for hours on end until closing. My personal opinion is that the gym has a lot to offer, but if you are into weight lifting at all -- please go somewhere else. There is not nearly enough dumbbells for the amount of traffic that goes through the gym and not nearly enough of machines. Their cardio machine selection is great and the indoor track definitely helps. Everything has been upgraded except one crucial section. The racquetball courts. There is no other places to play in this area unless you are a Southwestern student. You are able to fix and upgrade everything, but you leave the courts in the same condition? Shameful. read more

I have been here a couple times with my friend. I did a boot camp class and there was only a handful of ladies. No one talked to each other and I didn't get the feel of community and relationships.. The center has a mix of folks. Middle age and older.. Always busy. Even during the day. I like running the trails nearby. The bathrooms are clean. I am not going to get a membership here. The staff is very friendly and I especially love taking class from one teacher, Angela! I love her classes. I have taken other classes at this rec center, but her class is by far the BEST! She is so energetic and motivating. She makes class fun and challenging! If Angela did not teach there, I'm not sure I would continue going to this gym. I hope I can come back on and elaborate more later. Right now I am short on time. But I just have to say Brandi Williams needs to be fired immediately. I have had 2 interactions with her over the past 3 years and both were horrible. She was disrespectful, brash, harsh and rude without provocation on my part and she should never be left to deal with customers. I am especially disappointed in her rudeness toward me in front of my two young children (during the second negative interaction I had with her). The first was when she emailed to restrict parents from watching their kids in a dance class, mid way through the session. Later, after we withdrew from the class, we walked by and saw that this rule was not being enforced so essentially we were singled out then lied to about the entire situation. Yet another bad experience at this rec center adding up to 3 total now. This one not having to do with the above mentioned employee but I do wonder if my treatment is as a result of this review. Very sad what was done to my child here recently! I will be cancelling our membership. read more

My parents have been members here over the past 6 years. The staff has always been great to us! They are very kind and supportive in addressing our needs with a medical challenge. I love this place! There is not one bad thing I could think to say about this place. Well, I do wish they were open on Sundays but I can live with it being closed because it's so awesome. It's cheap, they have so many fun classes, and there is so much to do! Racquetball, basketball, swimming, weights, workout classes, informational classes, ping pong, adult social leagues, day care for children, play ground, etc. I could go on for days! The weight room isn't like one you would find in a Gold's Gym or 24 hour fitness, but I wouldn't expect that. They have racquetball "king of the mountain" on the weekdays after 6 pm. The best kept secret at the Georgetown Recreation Center is their dance classes. Kerry Erin Kelly teaches beginning through intermediate levels of ballroom, country, and line dancing. I highly recommend Kerry. She can also help you get ready for a wedding or DJ your party. She does it all! read more

This is a really great rec center! The staff is courteous and awesome, I just wish that they has a specific weight room and stuff because it gets really really crammed especially when someones using a jump rope in the corner. Only downside is the weights or lack there of so you cant do like any crossfit style stuff, and then there's always a lot of teenagers there for the wrong reasons and I've witnessed some drama, but if you tell the staff they kick them out etc. There was another post and yes they have a separate area for specifically dropping kids that need supervision called sitter service, but as for the teens idk ya just gotta speak up. Also the included classes are pretty good! I love Cammy's yoga classes. read more

I can't believe how crowded this place gets. If you never want to get on any equipment, and don't mind parking a block away from the door, then I guess it's ok, but I finally decided to join the Anytime Fitness in town. They've been there for over a year, and I should have joined there when they opened. Their staff members are so nice and more importantly knowledgeable! I will never go to the recreation center again. It's so nice to go to a place that has equipment that I never wait for, and staff that can help when you have questions! I can't stand the manager. He is a jerk. So is Lealand the guy that just walks around and does nothing. It's all about who you know. You have to wait and wait and wait for a machine. People are rude and won't get off a machine when they know your waiting. (there is a 25 min max if someone is waiting) Some of the trainers are rude and don't care that you're trying to workout too. They get right in your way and never smile. The kids are disrespectful. It's too crowded and too crowded in the early am. Can't get in the spin class. Parking is horrible. It's cheap, but not worth it. I hate to give one star it's not worth pig s**t. read more

Georgetown Rereation Center is not a gym, it's definitely a "recreation center" although I honestly mostly use the gym area which is good enough for me. Although I work at Fort Hood and have the luxury of using the base gyms for free, at the end of the work day, I'd rather be closer to home...hence, my membership here. It's only a short drive from my house and has everything you really need for a good workout. The price for a membership esp if you are or become a Gtown resident is definitely a steal compared to what you pay for at other gyms like 24 hour. I do have to knock down a star from the rating though ONLY because the hours are very limited compared to a 24 hour fitness and they are closed on SUNDAYS which is crazy to me...it's not a very good business decision considering everyone tries to squeeze in a workout on the weekends and from past experience, Saturdays and Sundays are busy days for gyms in general...the gym area is both the strength training and cardio area....good selection of machines that are kept up pretty well and are not old looking, the free weight area is adequate although seems smooshed into the side of the wall and wish there was more room...the stationary bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills take up most of the space and I love how they all look out to the outside pool area....if you are on one of the center treadmills or ellipticals at around 7 in the morning, seeing the sun rise and its rays beaming down on you is quite an experience and can be very motivating with the right songs on your ipod. I use the locker room as well and it feel clean. We don't have kids, but if we did, the Recreation Center is definitely a safe place I'd bring them to...it seems theres tons of activities and a teen center. Haven't been to the pool yet but glad to see there's one available.....with the whole thing about it being closed on Sunday, I was afraid this place was going to be some Christiany gym that was going to play Christian songs and push some kind of agenda where I have to pray before I workout...but having worked out here several times now, I'm glad this place is just what it is...a gym. The clientele seems to be a mix of everything and although I did predict the inevitabe being here in Texas of Fox News playing on the TV screens, it was nice to see that it was balanced with CNN and often times, MSNBC playing on another screen. Overall, politics aside, good gym, good people...just wish it was open on Sunday...just cause God had a day of rest is not an excuse to not exercise. read more
