This evening, I ordered a Sicilian pizza from George's Pizza on the Slice app. The pizza came right away as it usually does. I took a bite and noticed a sour smell. I took another bite, and the smell was still there. I then cut off the crust and ate that; it tasted just fine. I then tried a piece of cheese, which tasted fine. There's something wrong with the sauce or the bread that makes it inedible. There is a strong sour smell; maybe they left the sauce or dough out too long, and it went bad. This is what George's Pizza sent to me. I used the Slice app to complain about the pizza, and the response that was relayed back to me in the Slice chat from George's Pizza was that there is nothing wrong with the pizza. They said it was prepared normally, and there is no refund. This is simply bad customer service. I've been a loyal customer of George's Pizza for many years, they got me through the pandemic! There are a lot of other pizza places nearby. They will get my business in the future, not George's Pizza. I deleted the Slice app when it wouldn't let me download the chat conversation. Other food order apps can order pizza and have much better customer service when there's an issue. read more

This time, though, it was off and I'm still burping it up. called them to complain but they could care less--no replacement, no money back, so we just threw $30 in the garbage. I orded 2 beef patties with cheese and when I received them I realized they had no cheese so like anyone would do I called them back to tell them about the incorrect order they told me to take a picture and send it to them basically saying I'm lying . after sending the picture they said they put cheese and told me that I'm bothering to much and that they will not send me deliveries ever again long story short why would I lie about the patties missing the cheese, I also asked for spices which they didn't send and no napkins I basically order from them cause there aint to many pizza stores doing deliveries around me read more

Let me start off by saying this was one of my favorite pizza spots in the neighborhood. I was a loyal customer for many years but since George sold the place, it's gotten worse and worse. The new owner started losing business because the slices got smaller with less sauce and less cheese to the point where you fold it and grease doesn't even drip out, To make things worse, he started raising prices due to the loss of business which is the worst thing anyone can do. How can you justify giving less, charging more then expecting business to return? And why change something that's been proven to be successful for well over 60 years? Why not go back to how it was? Another example, a gyro was $4 and it was packed to the point where they'd have to use two pieces of foil to wrap it up. Since he bought the place, the price has gone up $6 making it $10 now and cut the portion to less than half. We nicknamed it "the baby" due to its size, now it's no better than your average deli gyro. Its just cheapness, poor management and it's unfortunate that such a longstanding Washington Heights staple has gotten as bad as it has. I feel bad for George and his brother Mario who built a legacy only to see it being driven into the dirt by the new owner. read more

The slices here are the best in Washington Heights. Hands down. Since I was a kid, this was always my place to grab a slice and a grape soda. When I visit the Big Apple, I always stop here. Brings back good memories from childhood. Pizza is still the best in town. read more

Rating is for pizza alone since it was my only focus. Pizza by the slice that is. The daily special consists of 2 large slices, and a can of "soda", or better known as "pop" in my region for $5.50. Hardly the price I was expecting to pay in New York, but this reasonable offer was certainly the New York style I was craving. George's is mainly set up for carry - out and delivery. There is a very small counter and a few stools along the wall to dine in. During my visit, there was a large volume of traffic in and out for pick up. With all of the pizza joints I expect to encounter during my stay, George's has got me off to a great start. read more

I usually pass by this store when I'm walking to the train. I decided to try them out today and I regret it. I was really hungry and ordered 2 pepperoni slices. That cost me $8, which is crazy! The slices were weirdly huge and not that great but since I was hungry, I ate it. I was polite when I ordered but the reception I got from the young man working the register was cold and the older man in the back seemed cold too. I guess it was because I was a new face but given the other experiences I've had in the heights, I immediately thought they were acting that way because I'm black. Not generally a fan of white pies, but the artichoke pizza looked like something I'd go for with my best friend. I was rewarded. The pizzas here are LARGE- I think we went medium and it's definitely solidly four meals. I only ate one slice for dinner. The pizza was a star, but the tiramisu while solid, arrived, well, solid. The top layer was completely frozen, and started to turn to soup as it thawed. Order took about 1hr to get about 15 blocks away. Not stellar timing, but I'd order here again having had some of the other options in the immediate area. read more

I've been a loyal and regular customer since moving to the area a year and a half ago. Ordered last night to learn from an included flyer that the place is "under new management," and much to its detriment.The pizza recipe and technique are completely different. The new crust is underdeveloped, dense and flavorless--crunchy at the edges, but not crisp, as you would expect from a properly fermented pizza dough--and pale on the bottom. The new sauce is thin and tastes artificial--no trace of hand-crushed D.O.P. tomatoes here. Quality of both cheese and toppings substantially worse. What you get now is comparable to your average $1 slice shop in Midtown--fine for serving to gormless tourists or kids on a junior high-school field trip, but for discerning New Yorkers hunting for a competent pie? I walk past George's every day on the way to work, and today I was really hungry ever before trudging up 181st to the A train. Of course McD's is on the corner waiting to get me good and sick (just leave that stuff alone!). And halfway up The hill, "pizza" jumped out from the sign. I recognized the counter guy from the sidewalk saying hello all the time I ordered a regular slice extra hot (was walking to the train, remember) and an elderly gent chatted me up about it being the best pizza in the area and super cute photos of his grandtoddler holding his newborn grandbaby. I paid the nice man, tipped. And was on my way. I got to a place where I could take a bite and it was pretty good. It had the flavor of a pizza place I used to go to as a little kid in VA, only heavier. I instantly felt nostalgic, thinking of the outings that preceeded those childhood treats. The crust was perfectly great, crunchy yet chewy and did I say heavy? The slice was cheesy, thin, crispy yet dense and broad, in other words, Folding will result in breakage. Will I be back? I absolutely loved this place! Got the two slices of pizza with a soda special with some garlic knots. I'm always afraid of getting pizza just anywhere because honestly, you never know. The amount of sauce was just right and the cheese was absolutely delicious. The pizza slices are HUGE, I don't know who could eat more than one slice! Taking one bite of the garlic knots was heaven. This is near where I live and I love this place. Every time I have people over I order their Sicilian pie and my guests comment on how good the pizza is. Their regular pie is good but their Sicilian rock. Their wings suck so they lose one star for that. Their customer service over the phone is shaky (but I assume is because they are super busy). When I go in person they were nice. This place is not fancy but it's tasty and cheap, just how I like it! read more

Rotten food!! Don't go there peeps, the old white haired dude was terrible on his customer service skills, I had the gyro, BAD IDEA. It is originally posted on the menu overhead that each gyro with fries is 8$ so any one would know its 16$ for 2. This old man charged me 17$ I don't care about the one dollar(it's the principal!!) When I got home and me and my girl started to partake she noticed mold on the panini bread, god was that so disgusting!! Terrible experience ordering Grubhub with this establishment. They either forgot my order or never made it and then claimed they delivered it to my neighbor. Definitely not the case. The guy at the restaurant sent me a screenshot of the order he was arguing was mine when in fact it was not. Not my address or correct information yet they refused to correct the issue and were incredibly rude. Had to call Grubhub for a full refund. Will never order from here again. Yuck! I dont know if it was the day I came or what but the plain slice I got was hard and lacked flavor. It was comparable to cafeteria pizza which we all know is not very good. Walking the extra distance up 181st to exclusive pizza would have definitely been worth it. I love george's. When you want that slice that hits the spot, this is the place to come to. Sometimes inconsistent but most days when its good its really good. And if you come late enough sometimes he adds a free garlic knot on top of your pizza. Great neighborhood slice. read more

How come every pizza place has a giant piece of meat slowly rotating right next to the counter? Who, in their right mind, is going to order that? I mean, really. George's Pizza is a small hole in the wall pizza place that serves your typical greasy warmed up pie. It comes in pre 1970s decor without any of the fun colors. There is also a very scary poster of a woman holding up an Olympia Gyro. It reminded me of how people depict scary clowns or East German Olympic athletes. At 3 dollars for a pop and a slice, George's is a good deal and is the best pizza spot on west 181st which, sadly, isn't saying much. I moved to into my very big and very cheap apartment in Washington Heights back in May. Moving meant spending time trapped indoors in a hot apartment with my parents assembling furniture... let's just say by dinner time it had been a long day. We had no idea what was around the neighborhood to eat; we just knew we were hungry. My haughty, desperate parents looked at me and uttered the worst 6 words I'd heard all day: "You live here. Figure it out." So I Googled "pizza" on my Blackberry and George's was the first number that came up. So I called, ordered a large pie, and hoped for the best. I was not disappointed! The pizza was fresh and hot, delivery took around 10 minutes, and it was a very reasonably priced large pie. I'd say in my experience of ordering George's getting a whole pie delivered has been exponentially better than any time I've ordered slices to go or eaten in. Before I'd tried Exclusive, I thought George's was the best pizza in WaHi. I like the texture and thickness of the crust and the sweetness of the sauce. I also like that once in a while he throws in a couple free garlic knots with your order. On the other hand, the cheese is kind of bland and the pizza loses a lot of its appeal once it's not piping hot anymore. Given the other options for pizza/food in general in the area George's is consistently OK, and you really can't fault it for that. read more

Oh greasy pizza, how delicious you are!! Its pizza people - cheese sauce and dough. - expect it to be fattening and very unhealthy but like I said...it's pizza!!! I think George makes the best pizza in this neighborhood. However that is my opinion and everyone is different. It doesn't hurt to give it a try! It really isn't bad pizza. Okay, so I ate a lot of pizza in this neighborhood growing up but it was the best option since it was always cheaper and filled with less old people than the McDonald's on 181st. I've been coming here for years and the pizza was rarely a disappointment. However, the last few times that I've been here have been awful. I'm glad I have a much better pizza place on St. Nick that's also closer. Overall the slices are still a great size but it just lacks flavor. It's actually really gross now :-( read more
