I went to see Dr. Getschman because I had a filling that was not done properly in 2019 despite 2 different dentist worked on it on 3 separate occasions. The filling work has developed into a food trap ever since I left the dental office in 2019 and it has becoming even worse in the recent months after a 3rd attempt to close the gap in April. Because of this food trap, it is giving me gum inflammations which I also worry about potentially it could cause cavities to the teeth next to it.
After setting up the appointment a day before, I located the office building after a few callings to get the direction which is one of the 2 down sides. The other down side is paid parking because of the city of Birmingham. But these should not be a show stopper, if you are looking for a skilled and trustworthy dentist.
When I found the office and walked in, Dr. Getschman was already standing by the front desk to greet me. He directed me to one of the examine rooms. After seated, he quickly started to examine the problem tooth. He confirmed the gap between the teeth that is creating the food trap and gave me options and recommendations on how to proceed. Dr. Getschman said he can work on the refilling a small section of the tooth to close the gap which can be done right there that day. Once I agreed to his treatment plan, he took an x-ray to make sure there are no cavities caused by the food trap and started the rework of the filling. I requested not to be numbed so I can have a better bite fitting which Dr. Getschman agreed. He very carefully removed a small section of the original fillings in order to redo the fillings to close the gap. This took like 3-4 tries which is understandable consider I am not numbed. I didn't experience any discomfort during the grinding down of the original fillings thanks to his careful work. During the process, he explained all the steps he was doing including the tools and materials that are used which put me at ease. The entire process for that tooth was completed very quickly and right away I don't feel the gap between the teeth anymore. He even used a dental floss to try to floss the teeth and I felt it is so much more difficult to slide the string in between the teeth which confirmed the large gap is now gone. Finally, my 3 year struggle with that tooth filling came to an end!
Did I mention up to this point, I haven't filled out any forms for personal and insurance information yet? Once the filling was done, he was filling out the patient information sheet himself and I only had to answer a few simple questions like address, insurance company, etc. I don't think I ever had a dentist that ever did that for me. Talk about service!
Dr. Getschman is highly skilled and I will be seeing him for future dental needs! read more
