I had to go thru a couple not so great dentists/ dental offices, these last few years- Finally found my place.From my initial phone call, and the whole process, this office is just really great. They even turn off the lights or ask, incase I am having a migraine (they remembered!! They listen!!! They took notes!!! ) on top of offering chapstick, this kind offering just blew me away. I think there is something to be said about a place that consistently treats you like a 1st-time patient. I have gone here my whole life and I have always felt well-taken care of, my time has ALWAYS been respected, the staff has ALWAYS been efficient & kind, and I've ALWAYS felt valued as a patient (even when I was a child I felt this). So one of the first things I noticed when moving to Folsom is that there are an almost insane number of dentists. Like, if you go down East Bidwell, there are dentists on all corners of the street. There are more dentists in Folsom than there are Starbucks in Seattle, and that is not an exaggeration. But what's been sad is that many of the dentists... well, suck. Like, a lot. My family switched insurance for a variety of reasons on multiple occasions these past few years, which meant that we frequently had to use new dentists in order to make the most of our benefits, and each and every one of them was woefully flawed. - Two misdiagnosed my tooth pain. - Two others said my kids and 7 cavities each (they didn't) - Two others were fascinatingly unprofessional. They would frequently talk about private things with each other while cleaning my kids' teeth. It hasn't been the best experience. The only positive experience I had at the dentist was in this dental office, as well as with both Dr. Chen and two of his associates at different times. The hygienist, whose name escapes me, gave me a thorough cleaning without commenting on my lack of flossing, which was a nice change of pace, and the exam itself was probably the most thorough and accurate I had. They also successfully diagnosed the cause of my tooth pain, which I then was able to treat and finally get relief. Of all of the different dentists in Folsom I have to strongly recommend this office. There are a lot of dentists in this city, but quantity is not the same thing as quality. read more

This place is seriously the best! I've had my fair share of different dentists, but they never cared as much as this place did! From my first visit, I enjoyed my time there from the very start. The staff is extremely friendly and encouraging, and you even get some delicious smelling chapstick at the end of your check up (and of course, other things that are related to dental care).:) When I had my first check up, I was extremely nervous. I always switched from dentist to dentist, so I never truly felt comfortable. However, this place truly changed that for me. I had great conversations with the staff and I truly felt welcomed, which is rare I must say.:) After cleaning my teeth, which they did a great job with, I was very satisfied with how clean my teeth were. They even fixed a chip in my tooth, and I was very satisfied to have my whole entire tooth back, haha. All in all, this place is great! Everyone is very welcoming and the dentists thoroughly express to the patients what need to be done to your teeth. My wife and I have been going to Dr. Chen's office for about a year and a half now and have had less than average service overall. The high quality reviews are what motivated us to switch to this dentist. Unfortunately, given the saturation of this market and the past experiences we've had, I had to evaluate the office as a whole and ultimately cannot recommend them. For me, Dr. Skelton was simply amazing. All the supporting hygienists were also amazing and I can see why this office has the good reviews it does. The problems for us was the lackluster communication, misunderstanding of insurance coverage, rigid policies related to cancellation, and periodic lack of sensitivity to those who may have dental procedure anxiety. To be fair, the "insurance" policies are ever-changing and I don't envy the folks conducting the research it takes to properly quote coverage. That said, I haven't really dealt with an office that amended their out of pocket estimates after the fact as frequently as this one. This is also always accompanied by confusion related to all associated costs due to poor explanation (i.e. Premier vs. PPO, etc.) by the front-of-house staff. I also understand that last-minute cancellations make it difficult to be as productive, and profitable as possible for the office, but charging for last-minute cancellations adds unnecessary stress to an already exhausting process. Life happens and even having to call and explain a family emergency (had to once) to avoid a fee is not conducive for a fast-paced family life. Lastly, our most recent visit where my wife had two cavities filled was disappointing to say the least; and showed a lack of sensitivity by Dr. Chen directly. The numbing process was laborious (I believe 8 numbing shots in total) and my wife had to vehemently advocate for additional numbing when that should not have been necessary. After the, albeit, long procedure, we saw Dr. Chen hastily drive out of the parking lot just as we were exiting the building - suggesting (forgive my conjecture) that my wife's less than ideal procedure may have been motivated by a conflicting appointment, which was not her fault. This was clearly an outlier in an otherwise good-mannered business, but this was ultimately what motivated the 'below average' designation. I'm sure there are many people who are regular, happy patients of Dr. Chen's office, but given our experiences, I simply cannot recommend this office over other competitors. read more

The office started out great the staff was helpful and did a great job with my dental work. When it came time for my cleaning kitty completed half of my mouth and said the rest would take too long so I have to come back.. that was fine until they tried to bill my insurance for one cleaning and then planned on billing my insurance for the second cleaning even though they were each a half of cleaning ..as delta dental said " this is insurance fraud" After I confronted the front office staff they became very rude and unprofessional so I reported them to the dental board who also stated this was not ok and that they are billing fraudulently. Don't go here and if you do stay on top of how they charge you and your insurance! Won't be going back there ... read more

Friendly, professional, and gentle I love coming here. This office is like night and day compared to my last dentist. They have pillows, head phones, chap stick, sunglasses and even mouth guards so you don't have to hold your mouth open on your own. I feel very taken care of. Dr. Chen is very gentle and very considerate when giving you feedback or working on your teeth along with his assistants. Let me start the review saying that my wife and I spend a disproportionate amount of time and money on dentist (bad genes). So when we move to Folsom I spent a good amount of time researching for Dentist (online and asking a good amount of past and current colleges). In doing so Dr Chen names kept coming up (it was actually the only dentist that I got more than one recommendation for). Main items 3 things was looking for was: 1) Good Dental Work: As I said early I have several crowns ect, so sloppy works really end up costing me more money and time. I have so say Dr Chen is very meticulous about his work (replacing old filling, making new crowns, ect) and also have special tools to make the appointments shorter and more efficient (Crown printing machine on site) among other. I have been really happy with the work he has done on my wife and I. 2.Honesty : Because all the work I have to get done I end up using my dental coverage early on the year, so having a doctor that is honest about what to get done right away and what can wait for next spring makes a huge difference. Again Dr Chen and the office manager have been very helpful in this regard. Focusing on the most important items and keeping me on a regular hygiene schedule to make sure other thing don't get out of control in the meantime. 3 Front Office: It makes such a huge difference to have a front office that is flexible, courteous and honest. I have had a wonderful experience with them. I moved to Folsom at the end of the year after founding a new job and they bend over backwards to get me in for multiple appointment so I could use my benefit that year before they expire. My wife and I have FINALLY found a dentist we love. Dr. Chen is the best!! He is so friendly and calm, and he keeps notes on how to best get me numb because I don't numb easily at all. Dentists go crazy with me but not Dr. Chen. He and his staff are so understanding, and they keep a history of what's worked and they follow that personalized script for me. This takes the huge black cloud away before I go to the dentist because I know with Dr. Chen, I'm not just a number, he treats me with care. His whole staff is so courteous and friendly as well. As a matter of fact, I just had a crown put in yesterday and he just called me today - personally - to see if I was doing ok. He didn't even have one of his assistants call. HE called me. You just don't see other dentists doing this. And the waiting room is very nice, with coffee, gum, water, gourmet tea, and (gulp) delicious cookies sometimes too. Dr. Chen uses the latest state of the art technology. It feels like I've fast forwarded 50 years since my last dentist. He's on the cutting edge, and he ensures his staff are all trained the same. Found their office through the help of Yelp and I could not be happier! I was able to set up an appointment request through their user friendly website, and received within a day to confirm an appointment time. Further more, they sent you the initial paperwork to fill out online so you didn't have to come early to do it at the office. A convenient touch. When I arrived at my first appointment, I got a walk through of the office and a personal introduction to every staff member. Throughout my check up and cleaning I never felt uncomfortable, or lectured, like I have at previous dentist offices. And all the staff was extremely friendly. Furthermore, this office also offers Invisalign! So when I expressed my concerns of my teeth moving post braces, they got a quote for Invisalign and confirmed with my insurance, all while I was getting my cleaning. I have literally grown up with their caring staff and excellent lessons in dental health, and now, living away for school, my cleaning is an integral part of each major visit back to Folsom. They always remember the details of my life, my sisters, our schools and careers, and the hygienists clearly explain the purpose of each step of the appointment, showing me on screen the details of X-rays and periondontal pocket checks... Just as importantly, they present clear and creative ways to work brushing and flossing into my daily routine. My puppy and I were playing a game and he got too close and chipped my front tooth - and it was a holiday weekend! This by far exceeds any expectations of any business (let alone a dentist office) I walk into. To actually say "I had a pleasant time at the dentist" would be normally unheard of from me. I just received a crown plus three fillings and a cleaning all in one day. Everyone from the front office (Lynn and Shannon) to the dental assistant Debra and my hygienist Kitty helped make me feel like I've been going there for years. They were all incredibly nice! Ok so then I go to Dr. Chen. The last time I got a crown was an absolute horrible experience. I had almost passed out from the pain of the shots she was giving to me. This time with Dr. Chen, I really didn't feel a thing. I didn't even know if the needle was in or out of my gum. I was totally shocked on how one person could do so bad and then another so well. Not only did the shot not hurt, but I never felt another thing while he was drilling. He was extremely professional and caring. I felt at total ease sitting in his chair. Let me just say, this is the BEST dental experience I have ever had. I always had anxiety going to the dentist, just getting a simple cleaning would stress me. With Dr. Chen I have had cavities filled even and felt NO pain and the results are exquisite. After my previous dentist retired last year, a friend recommended I try Dr. Chen. I was SO happy I did! From the minute I walked into their beautiful office, I knew Dr. Chen was the dentist for me. His staff is friendly, the hygienist was gentle, and Dr. Chen explained what he was doing and why every step of the way. I have only been going to Dr. Chen for a few months, but I can honestly tell you, I'm very happy. His hygienist Deborah is the BEST. Very gentle and no problems afterwards. I've had deep cleanings before where I was told to put tea bags on my guns in case they started bleeding. This place deserves NO STARS! If you want to have your face smelling like ass then this is the dentist to goto. I went to Dr. Chen for a teeth cleaning and got a staff that left the room with their gloves on and coming back to my face smelling like ass when I walked out. They don't change their gloves from patient to patient and they touch doorknobs, cabinets, trash rims, keyboards with their gloves ON! Then to your mouth! They also violate hippa by not destroying/shredding your personal INFORMATION and pass it along to anyone that is wearing a suit and tie....IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DENTIST IN FOLSOM DON'T LOOK THERE....TERRIBLE SERVICE AND they use up your insurance on unsubstantial details instead of for things you really need done.... read more

You do not want to go to this dentist. I had a cap put on 4 years ago, I told him I did not want all porcelain because it will break, he guaranteed me that they will not break and that they use stronger material than before. I said ok, we will see. Well, it is now 4 years later and guess what, it broke. I tried calling the dentist to talk to him, which was impossible. The girl said he would call me back and I said when, and she said she couldn't give me a time. I said could you ask him, and she said she couldn't interrupt him he is with a patient and I said well you kept interrupting him when he was working on my mouth 3 to 4 times. She couldn't answer that one. I told her this is ridiculous, I had crowns in my mouth for 15 years and some since I was in high school and they never broke. Then she comes back with well, they are only guaranteed for 3 years. I said that is a good one, I told you they broke after 4 years and you have the nerve to tell me they are only guaranteed for 3 years? There is nothing on my paper work that says they are only guaranteed for 3 years. Then she tried to make up a million excuses why it broke, and I told her, quit making excuses, you guys are going to fix this crown for free it should not of broke. I told her to make sure she has the dentist call me today for sure. She said he would. Well, I waited all day he never called me back, today they are closed and now its the weekend. This is how they care about you. They don't. When I went to the office 4 years ago, after everything was done, I was dissatisfied with the work and the hygienist that cleans your teeth too. She did not know what she was doing. That's why I haven't even went back since then. They don't even know how to pick the right color for a crown. I told her its to dark and she said we have the lighting like outside and this is the right color, I said it is too dark so I picked a lighter color. But actually I wanted two shades lighter and she said it would be too light and I said no it won't. But I stayed with the one shade lighter and guess what? I should of went with the two shades lighter, because it is still to dark and doesn't match my teeth. They don't know what they are doing. Also, when the crown was done, I was expecting the dentist to put it on, but he has the hygienist install the crown which I was not happy with. That is not right. They even told me that I needed a root canal done on that tooth before the crown was put on, and I told them there is nothing wrong with the tooth, it doesn't even hurt. So, I said ok, I will go get another opinion and went to two other dentists, I did not need a root canal. They just want to make more money by lying to you. This dentist doesn't even live in Folsom, he lives in Citrus Heights and has his office in Folsom so he could make more money, because he thinks the people in Folsom are rich. Money hungry dentist that doesn't even care about you and has his receptionist people act the same way, rude. And if you write a review about what you don't like his answer is: I am sorry you feel this way. What kind of BS is that?????? read more
