When you find the right salon you don't mind driving for a cut. When we moved to Greenwich I visited several barbers in our area with my son (13), some cuts were extremely disappointing. When I was getting my hair done by my dear friend Nick at Salon Maffei, he said I should bring Julian here. Nick said that he will like the man/boy experience vs. seeing your mom's stylist. I respect Nick for that because he could have said bring him here. My son saw Almir, and it was Love at first sight....lol Joking, but As long as Almir works at this location my son will stay loyal. I did suggest another shop when we were in the city as he was overdue for a cut, but the look my son gave me geez! I should have known better. He loves coming here. Almir gets him and and he also gets me the controlling mother. The cut is always perfect, we are always seen on time and on couple of occasions he accommodated us without an appointment. If I could leave a zero star review, I would. To say they ruined my hair is a gross understatement. I have salt and pepper hair that has been graying on the sides. After researching the over the counter products, such as Just for Men, I decided I would see a professional colorist because I wanted the change to be subtle and didn't want to take any chances. I didn't want to look like one of those men with a horrible dye job. So I did my research and this establishment bills itself as high end and has a service called "Gentleman's Grey Blending", described on their website as "maintain your natural look while adding some color." Sounded perfect. When I went in I told the owner it was my first time doing this, that I was nervous, and that I wanted only a subtle change. I specifically said I prefer less color to more color. The owner seemed to clearly understand this and gave instructions to the colorist. As she was putting in the material I told her several times that it looked too dark. She kept insisting that when it washed out it would be much lighter. Remember, I went in slat and pepper hair. I came out with a horrible brown hair with all of the grey gone. This is mortifying. I will now be in hiding until this horrible mess grows out, which could take months. It ends my dating life, embarrasses me during work calls, and is overall just horrifying. I am so sorry I ever went into this place. I certainly could have done a far better job with an over-the-counter product, for which I would have selected a light color dye and gone slowly. Avoid this place. They destroyed my hair and have made me embarrassed to leave the house!!! Just look at the picture. I walked in with salt and pepper . Horrifying. They should pay to send me to a real colorist who can fix this abomination. read more

First time going here. Made an appointment to have my mustache trimmed and evened out (handlebar in one side was slightly longer/thicker). Sat with Carlos, explained what I wanted and not to lose any length on the bars. 10 minutes later my handlebars are gone, barely able to curl, along with the 3 months it took to get them to where they were. DO NOT recommend for beard or mustache grooming!! In reply to the owner's response - I asked for the middle part to be trimmed a little and evened our. I SPECIFICALLY asked not to trim the length of the bars. Secondly, there wasn't that much of a difference between the length of each bar. What did happen was your barber cut too much off one side, then tried to even it out by trimming the the other. We went back and forth like this until there was hardly anything left. No business is going to admit in a public forum that they screwed up. Again, if you're looking for a mustache/beard trim I recommend going to Central Barber Shop in Hartsdale instead. read more

I'll start by saying this barbershop looks as professional as can be. The aesthetic of having the barbers wearing a bow tie and the professional demeanor is top notch. The barbers know what products work with your hair, what techniques to use, etc. That being said, paying $45 for a haircut where they do not touch or trim your beard or mustache at all is crazy to me. I've never gone to a barbershop where a basic beard trim or razor edging is not included in the price. The haircut itself looks great! However, as I stated previously, the price tag for a haircut with minimal services prices this barbershop out what I would like to spend regularly for a haircut every 3-5 weeks. read more

WORST HAIR CUT EVER! I researched to find a place that groomed men with long hair and could give me some advice on how to take care of it, I was happy when I called for an appointment that they asked if I had long hair until when I arrived and no one greeted me, finally they told me to take a seat in the barber chair and then I had to wait for one of the barbers to get off their phones and that took a while then I explained that It took me 8 months to grow my hair and I haven't had it this long in 20 years I want to keep it long and just clean it up, then in two snips they cut 5" off the back "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!" I went from long to a buzz. The owner didn't even want to address it and gave me his back, some usual customers walked in and got big welcomes so don't expect any thing special until you prove to them that you will be a good customer, the only concern they have for me is how to take this review down. read more

I walked in here before a court date looking for a shave and a haircut. Very upscale place, upon seeing the price list I was a bit apprehensive. The guy that was going to cut my hair had put the bib on me and was on his cell phone.. and to keep me at bay he would comb my hair then turn his back to me and keep his discussion going... I've been going to Gentleman's Spa and seeing Goni for a haircut for around 2 years now and each and every time I experience the best of the best. The age old saying you pay what you get for applies here. From the second you walk through the door you are immediately greeted by the ever smiling and nicest receptionist named Pashke, who always offers me an espresso and sees that I am promptly seated in my chair with the master stylist Goni. My hair is naturally very wavy and coarse and hard to tame, Goni is one of the few barbers in my life who know exactly how to shape and cut it. Come here for an experience and not just a haircut, each barber will straight shave your neck with hot cream, this is followed by a scalp massage with a shampoo rinse. Anxiety for me used to be taking my teenage son to get a haircut. I used to take him to a generic family hair salon to avoid feeling like a just walked past a "no girls allowed" sign. I had a fantastic experience here this week. Arrived in White Plains area for a business trip and realized my hair was getting out of control. I knew I only had a couple of hours to find a place, get a cut, and get back to the meetings. Sure, I could have gone to a regular place like Sports Cuts, but I try to find a good, local place if I can. So thank you, Yelp and fellow Yelpers, for helping me find this place. Arrived around 10:30 without an appointment but they were still able to see me right away -- thankfully it was early and it's probably slow most weekdays round that time, but I bet later in the day you need an appointment. Fredy was my barber, and he was AWESOME. Regular little chit chat, but Fredy is focused, kept checking out different angles to make sure the cut was just right. Unlike a lot of other places I have been too, Fredy wasn't trying to give me the trendy hard-part line swoop style haircut that a lot of men are using, like they are in the 1920s. Instead he gave me something well-formed to the shape of my head, finished up with a neck shave and eyebrow trim and some product to keep my hair looking sharp. Is the shop pricier than others? Sure -- but why pay $20 less and have your hair look like crap for four weeks? I'll tell ya, this might be one of the best haircuts I have ever had, and if Gentleman's Barber wasn't three hours away from my home, it would be my regular go-to shop. My husband Lenny started getting his hair and beard done by Peter at the Gentlemen's Barber Spa and, although he is extremely picky, he couldn't stop singing Peter's praises (honestly, he has never looked hotter...thanks Peter!). P.S my husband never raves about anything so I knew this place had to be special. Anyways, I had some free time today so I decided to do something I have been putting off for quite a while - getting haircuts for my 2 and 5 year old. These boys are rambunctious and can't sit still. They literally have ants in their pants so I was pretty much prepared for the worst. Guess what?! It was aaaamaziinggg! Peter must be a father because he knew exactly what to do and say to get these boys to sit still and be comfortable. They even let Peter buzz them with no tears!! It.was.magical. I lived in Manhattan for the last 2 years and would make the trip to Peter to have my haircut. That should say it all. But if you want more convincing, please read along: I'm a man in his 20's and I've had Peter cutting my hair for 3 years and can confidently say he has been the best barber I've ever been to. He not only knows what hairstyles are trending, but he also knows how to make it work for you. Sure, the price for haircuts at gentleman's are on the higher side, but they are cut in such a way that will allow your hair to grow and settle in very well and make it well worth the price (vs getting a cheaper haircut elsewhere that would grow in choppy and require to be cut again in a few weeks). Peter takes pride in his craft and in his business and it shows once you walk out of the door. I also know from first hand experience that customer satisfaction is his top priority. To give an example, I once asked him for a haircut in a different style I wanted to try out. The quality of that haircut was good as always, but after returning home and having a better look at myself in the mirror, I realized the hairstyle just wasn't right for me. I called him up and he took me in first thing next morning to revert it back to the way I used to get it, free of charge (luckily my original haircut was a more clean cut: tapered short on the sides and longer on top styled into a pompadour. Whereas the new style I was trying out was a longer relaxed look, so the "fix" was possible) Peters work has always had me looking at the top of my game and I have received countless compliments over the years. So much so, that I continued visiting his shop even after moving to Upper East Side Manhattan. I am writing this review now as I have recently moved to Philadelphia for a new job and hope to find a barber out here comparable to the quality and standard Peter holds for himself and his clients. I went there for the first time with my younger son who needed a haircut badly. I told him I'll be back as Venlencia was cutting his hair for the first time. I cam back in 15 minutes and I almost didn't recognize him but it was just probably the best hair cut he has ever had. After finishing him up, wow did he look good, I must say!! I can't understand why everyone's impressed with this place. My experience was very bad. I walked in off the street they told me to come back in a half an hour. When I came back I asked if the person who would be cutting my hair was familiar with shaping and trimming beards. A competent yes came from what I guess is the manger. The barber was very professional with a nice personality & clean. However he had no idea what he was doing and kept asking the manager for direction. Now my beard was already shaped. I just wanted him to trim the frizzies dead ends. ( had an important meeting and did not have time to do it myself) The barber finished in less than 10 minutes. Then I was asked to pay $35? Clearly shocked, while resentfully paying him he said it should be $40 but I'm giving you a discount because we didn't use hot towels? I paid the money and promised myself I'd never go back. Since then I've found three different places in White Plains. All of them not only provided a much better experiences but charged me either $10 or at most $20 ( if it if you're reading this and you don't know 10 or $20 is the average cost) Honestly The other barbers also had confident employees who knew exactly what they were doing. I'm sure everybody knows it's not about the money. In my opinion if you're looking to have people run around with vests on acting the part then you'll love this place.
