A very unassuming entrance up a narrow staircase leads past a wall of signatures and celebrity…read morepictures - soccer players, it appears, then opens up to an elegant rustic dining room with high ceilings and a clean, airy space.
We were greeted warmly as we entered the room, and our server got our order quite quickly, taking time to answer all our questions. A couple of minutes later we had a basket of warm, delicious bread and a little bowl of very mild and tasty 'pebre' at our table. The lunch menu is moderately pricey, around 9000 per person, and a bargain at that price. There is a choice of typical Chilean starters including a varied and tasty salad of traditional Chilean goodies like carrots and hearts of palm on a bed of greens, or you could opt for the ceviche.
For the main course we tried the fish of the day in a mildly spicy sauce, accompanied by your choice of mashed potatoes, rice, or salad, but the beef and veggie offerings looked good as well.
Dessert choices included a Chilean flan, a strawberry mousse, tiramisu, or tapioca.
All in all a charming place with very good food for the money, a lovely ambiance, and great service. This will doubtless become a regular stop on future visits to Valparaiso.
