I've been going to Genstler Eye Center for year and have always appreciated their chair-side manner. Dr. Eisenbarth has been especially helpful as I'm hitting my mid-40's and my eyesight is starting to change. He's helped me understand what's normal and other changes that will likely come. I appreciate how much time the nurses and doctor spend with me each time I'm there. read more

I had shingles in my eye and they were a very nice place to deal with. I would go back.

Very unprofessional. Doctors rush through appointments. I asked who operated on me and they told me the name of the wrong doctor. I was told that my cataract surgery would heal in just a few days. it took over 4 months to heal. My right eye was painful and blurry with severe halos. The service was so bad that I chose another ophthalmologist. read more

Had cataract surgery yesterday. Today was a follow up appointment with Dr. Eisenbarth. Our appointment was at 3:50 pm. We waited for over an hour in the exam room for him to come in. We asked a nurse what the issue was and was told "sorry he is with another patient and you are next". Very disappointed in the attitude and professionalism. read more

Just had my first consultation about cataract surgery. All of the techs, receptionists and Dr Gentsler were so very patient with me! They were very knowledgeable and understanding of my circumstances. The Dr prepared me for any possible complications I might have in the next couple of decades so that I could make an informed decision before my next appt. Would recommend highly to all! read more

I just had surgery on both of my eyes with Dr Gentsler. You are going to think she's my family and I'm biased after you read this review; but I swear to you I did not know this doctor or anyone affiliated with them! The scheduling staff is fantastic! It's not only their friendliness, they truly work with you and try to get you an appt as soon as possible. Professionalism at it's finest, yet caring and compassionate. The techs doing the testing on your eyes are also professional and friendly, and they all seem to enjoy their job, which passes onto you a feeling of coziness. And Dr. Gentsler.....I cannot express strongly enough how wonderful this woman is to her patients!! I have sent 3 friends/family to her after I had my first appt with her. (and I just recommended her to my book club ladies last night). These were people headed to KC for eye appts and I told them about my experience with Dr. Gentsler and her staff. They all have fallen in love with her just as I have. You will not find a more caring doctor, EVER! She is so gentle and you feel like you're the only person she is seeing as a patient. Her results....well it's as good as it gets, she knows exactly what she is doing and will recommend what options are best for you. I am 2 weeks out from my 2nd eye lens transplant and I no longer need contacts or readers!! It was the easiest and least anxiety I've ever had with a medical procedure, a piece of cake! If you are in need of an eye surgeon, I'm here to tell you Dr. Gentsler is an absolute MUST SEE (no pun intended) doctor!! THE BEST! Carol Reynolds read more

They cared enough to fit me right into their schedule. The staff was very kind and professional.

So this is the first Yelp review I've ever written and, perhaps, it seems odd I'd be doing such to review an ophthalmologist and not a local tex-mex joint- but whatever, here goes. I went to Genstler because I suffered multiple abrasions to my cornea, right on top of my pupil. A weird injury to suffer, I'll admit. It definitely wasn't a broken bone or anything- but it sure felt like it. I'd never injured an eye before but this was probably one of the top five worst pains I'd felt in my life. Thus, my trip to Genstler. Ultimately, whereas all the nurses were more than friendly, the doctors were not. Not that they weren't "friendly", perhaps- but they just didn't seem to care (which is interesting because the first thing they describe themselves as being on their website are "compassionate experts") . Upon my third visit after treatment, my eye hadn't gotten any better, which I told the nurse upon intake. I then heard her tell this to the doctor in the lobby to which he replied "well what does he want me to do about it?". He then gave me 3 minutes of his time, told me to put an icepack on it, asked if I wanted a contact, and sent me on my way. Again, the nurses were nice. However, in my opinion, the "compassion" I received from the doctors here certainly warrant a 1 star review. read more

I couldn't have selected a better team to complete my LASIK! Robin, Dr. Hinton, and all the staff at both the Manhattan & Topeka office were truly amazing with everything from start to finish - even with my very strong prescription Dr. Hinton was able to give me amazing eye sight and freedom from corrective lenses and I couldn't be more grateful. read more

I would be extremely cautious before I schedule an appointment with this practice. The staff are young and inexperienced. The office does not provide up front cost for testing ordered. There is no way of knowing if the exam was thorough yet at the end of it all, I could not see through the lens of the exam. The best you can do for eyes is to look for another practice. read more

I had LASIK and could read 20/20 the day after with both eyes. Dr. Hinton did a great job on the surgery, and the entire staff made the process seamless. I was well prepared for what to expect and was comforted with great instructions while the procedure was occurring. Any decision on something as valuable as your eyes is a difficult one. The team at Gentlser Eye Center understands and makes sure every concern is met. read more

Excellent service with fantastic result. Dr. Genstler is a pioneer in eye care. Extremely happy with my process.

Dr. Zeavin barely checked my vision. He wrote the same prescription as he wrote three years ago and told me to 'go somewhere where they make more expensive glasses.' This prescription did not correct my vision three years ago and it does not correct my vision now. Don't waste your time and money. read more

Dr. Genstler performed cataract surgery on me. It went smoothly. She was both friendly and professional all the while setting a calm atmosphere. Needless to say, with her demeanor, I was set at ease. read more

I just read the prior review and must state I had an entirely different experience. I had cataract surgery on both eyes in February 2017. I was only 58 and was quite surprised I was diagnosed with cataracts as I thought it was an old person's disease and did not think I was "old" yet. From my first visit all of the staff including Dr. Steven Hinton bent over backwards to explain things clearly so I knew what to expect and what my outcomes could be. Dr. Hinton took time to take extra measurements of my vision as I have some slight astigmatism in both eyes and he was determining whether or not to use toric lenses. In the end, he told me if I was his father, he would recommend to try the procedure without toric lenses and if any fine tuning was required, he would help accommodate that. He saved me significant money by doing this. From my surgery, which was a breeze, to the cool Star Wars music Dr. Hinton played during the surgery, to his sincere questions asking how I was doing for each follow up visit I felt a culture of caring. I just finished all of my appointments and am reading 20-15. I have been wearing pretty thick glasses and then contacts since I was in the 5th grade. The freedom, comfort, and quality of vision I have is fantastic and something I use every waking minute. I thanked Dr. Hinton today for his concern for me and what a positive experience it was compared to what I feared. I wished I would have had cataracts years ago to get better vision but I am glad I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Hinton. You will not regret using Genstler Eye Center and Dr. Hinton. read more

I had LASIK surgery here in 2016 and a touch-up 8 months later. I had Dr. Ellis and he was awesome, kind, and very helpful. I was worried about the touch-up causing long-term problems with the stability of my eye so I was going to do the old-fashioned PRK on it (which is a much bigger deal than LASIK). I went in for my touch-up prepared for the extra hassle and he informed me that, though he had to tell me about the risk, he was confident that my case wasn't that extreme and it would be fine and he didn't feel I needed to do it the hard way. I went ahead with the LASIK and all is well. I was very happy with my results here. read more

I feel compelled to leave a review after a second disappointing experience at the Topeka Genstler Eye Center. I have seen two different ophthalmologists here, one for an annual eye exam and one for an emergency eye condition. On both visits I thought the doctors were arrogant and condescending. Additionally, the doctors were rushed and hurried through the appointments. During my annual check-up the doctor quizzed me as to why would I drive all the way from Lawrence to Topeka for eye care. Then laughed when I said my partner works in Topeka and had driven by the practice. After that he questioned my insistence on seeing an ophthalmologist for my annual exam dismissing my explanation. I told myself in the future I would seek eye care from a different provider. Then going against better judgement I contacted the Topeka office with an emergency eye condition. Not surprising I had the same unpleasant experience yet with a different doctor. He also had a superior attitude and in a rush when it came to addressing my medical treatment. Therefore, I gave the doctors here a thumbs down. read more

I have been going to Genstler Eye Center for almost 10 years now and have not received better care anywhere. My first exam I was diagnosed with cataracts and Dr. Genstler took the time fully explain what my problem was and gave me options for treatment. I had lens replacement surgery done on both eyes and could not be happier. Since then, I have been seen initially by Dr. Hanschu and now by Dr. Mai. The Doctors and Staff have always treated me as a friend and express that care and concern whenever I visit. read more
