It was our first time at Gennaro's...and we loved it! The food was delicious and the service great! The two men had the Salmon Nepolitano and loved it. I am not a salmon lover, but I tried my husband's and it was good! I had Capellini Al Granchi which was angel hair pasta with lump crabmeat in a lemon-sherry wine sauce....EXCELLENT! Large pieces of crab, no pieces of shells, simply scrumptious! My friend had the Rigatoni with Chicken special and loved it. We shared an order of Candied Brussel Sprouts. They were marvelous! The restaurant was much larger than we expected and there is an outside patio where you can eat. We will definitely be back! read more

What a hidden gem! I've driven by this restaurant a 1000 times and finally tried it. Excellent experience all the way around, from the food to the staff to the spotless restaurant itself. We were a party of 6. Selections for our group included the salmon neopolitan , rigatoni alla vodka, roasted red pepper ravioli stuffed with asparagus with shrimp on top, and finally, penne toscano, which consisted of sweet italian sausage, cannellini beans, broccoli rabe and roasted garlic. The perfect day! We had our son's first birthday party at Gennaro's. From the moment we arrived Gennaro and his staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. The food was superb as usual and the staff attended to all our guests needs. The outdoor breezeway is a magical little area perfect for any intimate event. Everything looked beautiful. You would never know we were on route 33 in Hamilton NJ. Before leaving several guests said it was the best kids party they had ever attended. Food is great. Service is great. Haven't had a single bad server, in fact they have all been incredibly polite and helpful. Each time we bring our own (BYOB) they offer us an ice bucket for the wine and glasses with ice for the beer. It's a touch on the pricey side but it's worth every penny. Nice outdoor dining for a strip mall and the service was good. Clams casino appetizer disappointing. Tiny clam with a strip of bacon. The bread was not fresh, it tasted like it had been sitting out all day. The house salad was good if you like a sweet vinaigrette. Caesar salad was as expected. The chicken francaise was rubbery and inedible. The rigatoni in vodka sauce was not creamy and slightly under cooked. It was a bit noisy but it was a Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated right away. Our waiter was excellent and did not rush us. Husband had Veal Italiano and said it was only ok. Not as tasty as he had hoped. I had Veal Saltimbocca. Veal was very very thin and tender. Prosciutto was very paper thin and came out on the crispy side :(. It was also too lite on the cheese. Other couple were vegans and found the menu to not offer enough options. They ended up getting appetizers as entrees. Not sure we will go back. read more

Delivery is subpar. We live around the corner, yet it took over an hour to get our pie and it was completely soggy and cold. Not even an apology from delivery guy. Had to put it in the oven but it was only ok at that point. It also had a lot of dry seasoning dumped on top. I don't see us ordering from here again. read more

We celebrated my husband's 60th birthday (which was a surprise party) and the restaurant management was very accommodating. I dropped off bottles of wine, a cake with candles, and I ordered the appetizers ahead of time so that friends could enjoy some food and drink prior to the birthday person arriving! As always, the food was fantastic from the appetizers to the house salad to our main meals. I cannot say enough kind words about the phenomenal wait staff. Excellent customer service. I never had to search for our waiter (Patrick). He was always watching the table to make sure everything was on point. This is the best local restaurant in Hamilton Square. This was our 2nd time to Gennaro's and we were just as impressed as our first visit. We first tried Gennaro's when a friend planned a graduation party there for our kids. We ate outside and it was lovely! Everyone loved it. This place will definitely be added to our list of favorites. So, we recently went back and brought friends, who had never been there. It took them half an hour to get three waters, a soda, and a salad. Food is ok, but service is terrible. Villa Barone is way better than this place. My kids ordered a slice of pizza and mac and cheese and those were delivered to our table 45 minutes after we ordered it. Took them another 15 minutes to pick up the check from the time we ask for it. read more

Gennaro's has great tomato pie. Super thin crust and great sauce. My favorite is the brooklyn pie. It is square and has fresh mozzarella, basil, and their tomato sauce. It is so good. On the downside the service could be sometimes slow especially when it is crowded outside. read more

I've just recently starting going here (maybe a half dozen times) and really enjoy their thin crust sicilian (brooklyn pie). The ambience is nice, we like sitting outside, the pizza is good, the service, everything has been a great experience so far. We've ordered entrees before as well and have always been very pleased with the dish. Tonight was little different though... We ordered our brooklyn pie...i felt like it came out a little quick for a busy friday night. When he brought it out, the pie was warm not hot, not like it typically is served. The sauce was dried up in spots as if it was sitting for a while. Like perhaps it was waiting in a to go box but then got re-routed to our table. ( i certainly hope that wasn't the case...but honestly, it certainly tasted like it and looked like it.). What am I to think when a pizza comes out unusually quick but yet was only luke warm and old looking?? I was very disappointed although I didnt say anything to our waiter, I'm not one to make a scene or complain. Theres nothing more upsetting to my friday night than a bad pizza that I paid $16 for. Nonetheless, i paid my bill and left. A little advice: Don't ever let something like that be served to a dine-in customer again, it's insulting. I hope this review is the only bad review I will ever have to write about Gennaro's as I plan on giving it one more shot. read more

The Chicken Milanese was the best I've ever had. The accompanying beet salad was also a tasty treat. We shared the special salad as an appetizer: dandelion, romaine, raddish, LOTS of blue cheese and a white vinaigrette. The service was great, friendly, pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately, my family and I were not able to eat at Gennaro's. We had a reservation at 6pm, and it was not until 6:40 that the owner told us that he would not be able to honor our reservation. We had an excellent time at Gennaro's. We were celebrating my wife's birthday. There were six of us including a 2-year old. The table was all set up for us including a special seat for the 2-year old. I had specified this when I made the reservations. We were greeted very warmly and made to feel at home. The waiter spoke of specials and we eventually made our selections. The pace of service was excellent as was the attention by the group of waiters and waitresses. Went there last evening with a group of 12. We had 7:00 reservations. Arrived about 6:55. We were not seated until 7:25. I understand that at times a prior party may stay longer than expected but there were no apologies. The food was great, our server did a terrific job - no complaints. Then we asked for our check. 20 minutes later we were told there was a computer problem and we couldn't get our check. Finally the server brought our check and we asked to see the manager. I explained the 25 minute wait on our arrival and then the extremely long wait for our check was unacceptable...his response was "what do you want me to do? I very nicely said that he should have comped something, perhaps coffees (of which there were only 5 ordered), his response was fine, just leave, don't pay anything. I said that isn't at all what we were expecting or saying but that even "I am sorry for the inconvenience" would have been appropriate and acceptable." Again, his response was "nothing I can do about it". We paid our bill and left. I don't know if he is related to the owner and that is why he has this job, but he is rude and arrogant and obviously doesn't know anything about customer service, He now has 12 customers who left there very upset by his rude, condescending attitude. I would never return and some of the others had the same comment. How unfortunate, but I guess because the restaurant is usually busy, they don't care if they lose a few customers. From my perspective, there are a lot of good restaurants in the area, all of whom would be happy to take my money with a smile! Next time I will patronize one of those that truly understands what customer service means and not have to end an enjoyable evening with friends dealing with an obnoxious jerk! read more

I really wanted to like this place. My first impression when I walked in was oh oh this place is empty and it's dinner time not a good sign. Then the host coldly asked me "Can I help you?" No smile, no warmth, nothing. Like I was interrupting him or something. The coldness didn't stop there, the staff in general seemed like they didn't want to be there. I ordered the shrimp special appetizer which was so bland. I am so upset that I paid $12 for 3 shrimps and wilted spinach. Very expensive and definitely not worth it. My entree was a little bit better but it was bland as well. I had to ask the bus girl to get me some salt and pepper and red pepper flakes to add flavor. On the positive, it's a very nice establishment, good ambiance and if sitting outside, romantic. I'm really glad I used a voucher to try out this place. They really need to work on their customer service skills. Try smiling and making your customers feel welcomed. read more

I had the most delicious dinner from here last night, so good that I felt compelled to write about it. I also had dinner inside the restaurant about a year ago, and remember my food also being delicious then, but truthfully cannot remember for sure what I ordered. Last night I had my food delivered and this did nothing to compromise the taste/quality of the food, which is impressive itself (although I do live very nearby). I ordered the Frutteta salad, which has spring mix lettuce, grapes, strawberries, apples, walnuts, gorgonzola crumbles, and a raspberry vinaigrette, and it was perfection! The sweetness of the fruit and dressing countered the cheese so nicely without being overly sweet. I also customized a small size tomato pie (which was much larger than I expected) with mushrooms, spinach, and anchovies. I know not everyone is a fan of those toppings but the pizza itself was so delicious. The vegetables were sautéed and full of flavor. The chunky sauce tasted amazing and it had a good ratio of sauce to cheese for a tomato pie. I should say I'm from North Jersey and am therefore new to the whole "tomato pie" concept, so I have found some of them to not have as much cheese as I prefer. The crust was also great, and I am typically a non-crust eater. The food was a bit pricy ($10 for the salad, $15.50 for my customized small pie), so this is obviously not your typical pizza takeout place, but I won't take a star off for that because it was clearly made with quality ingredients. It was a more than fair price for the salad, which filled a large container. Also, the pizza would have been $11 for a very generous "personal" size had I gotten it plain, so I made it much higher with the toppings. I can't say enough about how delicious my food was. Although the local "tomato pie" competition is good (Papa's, DeLorenzo's), I will definitely be getting any future ones from Gennaro's over the others. read more
