It was gorgeous, sunny morning and we opted to sit outside, on the right, by one of the wooden tables. The murals opposite were amazing, putting life to a dead block beside us. But the coffee was a massive hit! Really excellent! And not to be out done, so was my Avocado Sourdough with goats cheese, hemp & tumeric dukkah, haloumi and corn salsa. Loved the Turkish/Middle Eastern influenced healthy menu with the hemp dukkah, spiced nuts and lebnah. One of the best eats on my holiday. Great ambience and vibe, with an awesome mural on the block next door. Can't beat the coffee. And yes, as Arny said: I'll be back!

Seating is at a premium as it seems that everyone in the area knows that this is THE place to go for brunch. There's people with puppies tied to their low tables at the front, and groups sitting on the high tables in the undercover areas and in front of them all are heaving colourful plates of tastiness. We shared three dishes - pulled pork and tortillas, an avocado corn combo and a salad that had plenty of greens to make us feel virtuous. All were generous and tasty and had we had any room we would have grabbed some of the interesting cakes afterwards.

Fantastic. About…read moredamn time there was a no-nonsense cafe in the Gold Coast. The trend nowadays is to have exotic, "different" food on the menu but quite frankly, I'm getting very tired of it. I'm a huge fan of eggs benedict/florentine/whatever but it's starting to become really difficult if not impossible to find a simple, decent version of this. I don't want dukkah and mediterranean turkey or crispy duck gnocchi as an "healthy" substitute for what benedict is usually served with. (You know what I mean, I sincerely hope no one is stupid enough to try that.) When it comes to breakfast, I want to see the usual suspects on the list FIRST then you can go be creative for all I care. Just don't make them "sides/extras" and when you work it out, a plain scrambled eggs on toast with mushrooms and maybe some avocado turns out to be well over $20. This is just robbery. To my delight, this place delivers. I ordered eggs benedict and opted for the double smoked leg ham instead of the bacon. (You can choose from bacon, salmon, portabello mushroom or the ham.) My god, that ham...!!! It was orgasmic. I cannot recommend that dish enough. The eggs were PERFECT, and if you are a breakfast head like I am and/or have worked as a chef cooking thousands of eggs, you will know what I mean when I say the art of cooking a poached egg seems to be dying. I don't want the whites to run nor do I want the yolk to resemble a rubber ball. 10/10. That and hollandaise. I used to make hollandaise every morning for work and I know when someone actually understands what they are doing. Put it this way, I scraped that plate clean. And the serving was generous. And for $17, I expected good stuff. This wasn't good, it was excellent. My friends ordered the chicken burger with aoili and the breakfast special of bacon and egg roll (that was $10 and I have never seen one that massive!) and both were extremely satisfied. Coffee was great too. The owners used to own a nighclub in Cairns but got tired of the party scene and moved down to open a more friendly establishment and you can see the love they have put into this place. There is a stunning motorbike on display at the back (just take my word for it, go have a look if you're into that kind of thing) and my friend who lives right around the corner was asked if he would like to display some of his photographs to sell. This is exactly the kind of attitude more places need to adopt, support local artists and it's a win-win. I wish this business many prosperous years to come. Thank you for restoring my faith in Gold Coast breakfast cuisine.

This means I get to sample a lot of cafes far and wide on my lunch break. Today I found myself on the Gold Coast at Chill In Cafe. When I walked in, there was soft, acoustic, blues background music playing, and a rustic atmosphere to suit. The atmosphere here is quiet, but peaceful quiet (not disturbingly quiet). I ordered a pumpkin, avocado and Halloumi stack for lunch. The meal was filling, the ingredients were fresh and oh my lord was the Halloumi oh so tasty. And not too pricey either! Coffee was quite nice, tasty and fresh as well, with no hint of staleness or bitterness. I noticed that they also sell beans here too. I wish I could've bought some for home, however I still have a decent amount of coffee to get through. Their online coffee store (www.coffeebeansshop.com.au) is worth a look, and I'll be ordering a couple of taste testers next time I'm running low. All in all I really loved the experience here. It's designed for coffee loving hipsters to type up Yelp reviews such as myself. It almost made me wish I lived down here. I will be making note of it for future work trips, and will also be checking out their coffee beans at some point in the near future.

Yet, it's always busy and seems to do a roaring coffee and breakfast trade. So, it took an American visitor to get me inside this place as we went looking for a breakfast spot one morning and a place to chill. The name intrigued him and I can now appreciate why this gem of a cafe is so popular. We both felt like the Eggs Benedict with Ham and the dish didn't disappoint. The eggs were perfectly poached, yolks runny when cut into, oozing a liquid gold down and over the ham, toasted bread base and scattered baby spinach leaves; it was delicious. Two small, flat white coffees rounded out the breakfast bonanza but my friend couldn't resist ordering a cinnamon muffin with fresh cream too. Suffice to say, we left sated and satisfied. Chill in Cafe. It's the perfect place to do exactly that.
