I don't want dukkah and mediterranean turkey or crispy duck gnocchi as an "healthy" substitute for what benedict is usually served with. (You know what I mean, I sincerely hope no one is stupid enough to try that.) Just don't make them "sides/extras" and when you work it out, a plain scrambled eggs on toast with mushrooms and maybe some avocado turns out to be well over $20. This is just robbery. To my delight, this place delivers. I ordered eggs benedict and opted for the double smoked leg ham instead of the bacon. (You can choose from bacon, salmon, portabello mushroom or the ham.) My god, that ham...!!! It was orgasmic. I cannot recommend that dish enough. The eggs were PERFECT, and if you are a breakfast head like I am and/or have worked as a chef cooking thousands of eggs, you will know what I mean when I say the art of cooking a poached egg seems to be dying. I don't want the whites to run nor do I want the yolk to resemble a rubber ball. 10/10. That and hollandaise. I used to make hollandaise every morning for work and I know when someone actually understands what they are doing. Put it this way, I scraped that plate clean. And the serving was generous. And for $17, I expected good stuff. This wasn't good, it was excellent. My friends ordered the chicken burger with aoili and the breakfast special of bacon and egg roll (that was $10 and I have never seen one that massive!) and both were extremely satisfied. Coffee was great too. The owners used to own a nighclub in Cairns but got tired of the party scene and moved down to open a more friendly establishment and you can see the love they have put into this place. There is a stunning motorbike on display at the back (just take my word for it, go have a look if you're into that kind of thing) and my friend who lives right around the corner was asked if he would like to display some of his photographs to sell. This is exactly the kind of attitude more places need to adopt, support local artists and it's a win-win. I wish this business many prosperous years to come.
