No closing after lost loan option, again attempt to secure a loan..they say wait a month for a new program, never hear back from Affinity- after calling about my complaint that I paid for the appraisal he informs me that the Appraisal came out low so he couldn't do anything about that. I still have the email where he said even if it came up short we can get a loan. waste 4 months waiting on this Company and 400 dollars on an appraisal that another bank cant use. Dont waste your time here. Honest Customer service during the potential Sale is the best i can say.

When finally approved, the "investor" apparently was dragging their feet funding. Then I was encouraged to move the loan to another investor however that investor would require me to pay, can't remember, either an eighth or a quarter point higher, but would get the loan funded and closed. Finally out of frustration I agreed to do this but asked that as a good faith move on the part of Affinity to refund my appraisal fee. They agreed to do so but when I got the pre-closing statement, no such adjustment was made. So spoke with the title company and they called Affinity and he told them he would send me a check. The loan has been closed now for a month and after two requests, one by email, one by phone, no check. Update: Well, I got the check, about two months after the close. I won't speculate what drove it. I hope my experience is the exception, not the rule.

First, we applied for a mortgage so that we could finish fixing-up a home that we purchased outright. Well, the money that we needed for fixing-up the home was much more than we had in the bank (HGTV shows are honest about that). Unfortunately, Leon applied for the wrong type of mortgage, he completed the application for a fully completed home instead of a renovation mortgage. When he realized his mistake he apologized and referred us to a guy that issued short-term loans. We were grateful for the loan as we were not aware of any other options. The interest and fees that we had to pay for this loan were well over $6,000. We rushed to finished the home in two months and were able to pay-off the short-term loan with the mortgage that Leon helped us apply for. Adding insult to injury, we had to pay over $3,000 for his mistake because he charged us for holding our interest rate for the time that it took us to complete the home. In no other business would the customer be responsible for the producer's mistake. Their communication is poor, not only because Leon completed paperwork for the wrong type of mortgage but also because Kristen Link handles most of the underwriting and her emails are unorganized and lack professionalism. When asking for clarification, she would respond with an even more jumbled email. The last thing is that we have had our mortgage for three months and we received another jumbled email from Kristen Link requesting more information or else the loan will not be verified. What?!?! First, it took a series of emails asking for clarification to understand exactly what she was requesting. Second, the employees at Academy Mortgage failed to send all necessary information or communication to the mortgage company before the loan was issued. Third, our vacation time was abruptly interrupted because they failed to do their job. They cost us an additional $9,000 (that is an exuberant amount of money for us), an unnecessary amount of time fixing their mistakes, and an extremely frustrating experience due to their poor communication skills. They are nice. They are not worth the time, frustration, or money.
