First, we applied for a mortgage so that we could finish fixing-up a home that we purchased outright. Well, the money that we needed for fixing-up the home was much more than we had in the bank (HGTV shows are honest about that). Unfortunately, Leon applied for the wrong type of mortgage, he completed the application for a fully completed home instead of a renovation mortgage. When he realized his mistake he apologized and referred us to a guy that issued short-term loans. We were grateful for the loan as we were not aware of any other options. The interest and fees that we had to pay for this loan were well over $6,000. We rushed to finished the home in two months and were able to pay-off the short-term loan with the mortgage that Leon helped us apply for. Adding insult to injury, we had to pay over $3,000 for his mistake because he charged us for holding our interest rate for the time that it took us to complete the home. In no other business would the customer be responsible for the producer's mistake. Their communication is poor, not only because Leon completed paperwork for the wrong type of mortgage but also because Kristen Link handles most of the underwriting and her emails are unorganized and lack professionalism. When asking for clarification, she would respond with an even more jumbled email. The last thing is that we have had our mortgage for three months and we received another jumbled email from Kristen Link requesting more information or else the loan will not be verified. What?!?! First, it took a series of emails asking for clarification to understand exactly what she was requesting. Second, the employees at Academy Mortgage failed to send all necessary information or communication to the mortgage company before the loan was issued. Third, our vacation time was abruptly interrupted because they failed to do their job. They cost us an additional $9,000 (that is an exuberant amount of money for us), an unnecessary amount of time fixing their mistakes, and an extremely frustrating experience due to their poor communication skills. They are nice. They are not worth the time, frustration, or money.

After sending them auto insurance information at the time the loan was set up, we began receiving harassing letters from CapEd. We gave them our insurance cards, affadavits, etc, along with the phone number to State Farm and they said they would call. This went on for over a couple months and in the mean time they put a $3,933/year policy on top of our loan and began charging us. (This while we clearly had the required insurance). We eventually had our insurance company contact them because it was clear they planned to run the scam, if it was that, as long as possible. in the end they took an extra $185 for the insurance out of us that we were unable to retrieve. This because we were from Washington and the car sat on Corwin Ford's lot for a week or so before we could come get it and get everything completed. This company seems to steal an extra dollar in any way possible, and it appears to be well thought out. (Read the other reviews and decide for yourself) Be sure to tell Corwin that you don't want to use them or you might get stuck too. Note: I'm presenting this review for both Nampa and Meridian, as I'm not sure which one Corwin Ford selected for our car loan, but I assume they are both the same company at different locations.
