We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. We were the only customers there. I ordered enchiladas rojas, and my husband ordered carnitas tacos. The chicken in my enchiladas was so dry and rubbery that I couldn't eat it. My husband said his carnitas tacos were flavorless. The waitress was preoccupied with her phone and never checked on us, didn't offer us drink refills, and never brought us the bill. We will not go back. read more

This place just opened last week, replacing a local icon - Oasis Drive Inn. The counter Service style ordering method is very efficient and a server brings the food to your table. We had a party of 7 and ordered a selection of American and Mexican dishes. The service was very fast!! Place was clean and employees friendly. All food was served hot and everyone said their entree was hot and delicious! All servings were plentiful and we walked away full. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and the ingredients were all choice, including large strips of bacon. The fries were double fried and had great flavor. Certainly would visit again. Passing through and hit this place based on the reviews. It's a walk up and order, then sit place, maybe 10 tables and a counter with six or eight 50s diner-style stools. None of this matters of course because it's all about the food. Alex treated me tenderly, offering bland suggestions. Once I informed him I was from CA and knew my Mexican food he and I had some fun. He recommended the quesabarria which is a fried beef quesadilla, served with this sauce/broth that is to die for. He kept me from gnawing my arm off with chips and beans to dip them in. The meal was excellent and Alex was a charmer. Don't miss this place if you're passing through St Charles. read more

Friendly, bright, clean! What's not to like? Throw in great, tasty food and this is a place worth trying! Best street tacos I've had in awhile. That includes Rochester's taco trucks. Met a friend for lunch here on his recommendation. It's a nice little joint, very clean and bright, with a menu that should appeal to most. Staff were friendly, food was served promptly, freshly made, and chips/bean dip was brought to the table after ordering, which was delicious. An odd blend of American and Mexican cuisines that works, with Chocolate Shoppe ice cream available at the counter. I tried the lengua hard shell tacos, which were fresh-tasting, mildly seasoned, with green tomatillo salsa and lime. They were quite satisfying, and the side of rice and beans was a perfect complement. I also got some ice cream afterwards, which was typical Chocolate Shoppe level scrumptious. I would love to try their breakfast menu, as well as American offerings. No complaints: price was fair, service was fast and friendly, food was good, location was quaint, and atmosphere was pleasant. Genesis had an attractive presentation of their food on line. The restaurant may not appear impressive but it's clean, bright, and the owner is friendly. Service was timely & attentive. My huevos rancheros were so good, as were my husband's breakfast tacos. As it was 9:30 am, we passed on the 2 cases of Madison's popular "Chocolate Shoppe" ice cream, but it would be negligent not to let others know it's here. read more

Well I personally can't eat the Mexican food. But everyone I talk to says it's great my husband loves it too. I've had the cheeseburger and that was good. There a lot on the menu and always a different special. They also have a selection of hard ice cream. The service was pleasant, we didn't wait very long. Came upon this place by accident in our travels and I'm so glad we did. It's a modest restaurant with excellent service and the food! Oh my! The presentation, portion, taste and value for the dollar were all spot on! To top it off there were fresh flowers on the table and the chef came out to make sure patrons were happy with their selections. We were visiting from California and stopped in here on the recommendation of a family friend. Our teen wanted a burger, and we were planning on just getting that plus some ice cream, but decided to try the al pastor tacos as well, and I am so glad we did! Everything we had was delicious, but those tacos were some of the best I've ever had. We often get street tacos from various spots around town at home, and these were better than anything I've had in our local spots. My only complaint is that St. Charles is so far away from where I live that I can't stop in here regularly and try more of the menu! The service was friendly and helpful, and I would wholeheartedly recommend Genesis Cafe to anyone in the area. read more

Stopped in to check out the new place in town. I had high expectations as I just came back from California and there happens to be a big gap between Mexican food there and here. However I was met with surprisingly amazing tacos that resemble that of the best Mexican food I had in SoCal. I drive thru St Charles frequently and this new place caught my eye. Stopped by another day with my wife and step mother for breakfast. First their staff is friendly. I understood perhaps they are all related to the owner which I believe makes them a bit more conscientious. The menu is up on the wall and there were numerous tasty looking options at reasonable prices. I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious. The others had omelets they said were very good as well. I hope to be back soon to try the lunch menu. read more
