As a first time and last time customer of Genesis, if I could make this review for this company a 0 star I would. Online reviews from google show their good side but you have to read further back and on other sites to find the, true colors, poor reviews. Genesis responded to my inquiry for a basement finishing job ( framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall to paint ready, install a full bath, 1 office and 1 bedroom and completion with ready to paint drywall and no flooring). Work was set to begin in April 2025 but was 3 weeks late due to Genesis being behind on 2 other jobs as I was told. My wife and I were told MANY TIMES, this job was going to be done before our first son was to arrive end of May 2025 but the job was not completed with paint ready drywall with the until September 2025. I was accompanied by Mark for the final walkthrough before any work was scheduled to begin and we adjusted a few items. Later I found out that the changes were only written in his notepad and were not known about until a month later when the bathroom shower (that was changed for the contractor to supply). I had to spend $2k spontaneously to purchase a shower insert that still took 2 weeks to arrive and blamed for the delay. I was later asked for more money after giving them 1/2 deposit of total job with not even full framing done due to the delay " I caused". The subcontractors this company uses are subpar, very dirty, unprofessional, lack any care for the homes that are not their own. They used my homes facilities, pissed all over the floors multiple times, left construction debris, trash, and cigarette buts all over my lawn which killed sections of my yard not to mention the amount of times we cleaned up the street of debris left by everyone over and over. Before what was supposed to be the "final inspection" I was again sent repeated invoices for a job that was not completed. The framers got defensive once confronted about their work when there was issues present. I doubt if they did repairs to their own homes the job would be right the first time. Many times repairs had to be redone including the cutting for an egress window that had to be pulled out and recut/ framed 3 times from my homes foundation due to either being too small or not framed/ installed right. No dust mitigation was done and my houses smoke alarms were going off and the people are asking my wife how to turn them off. The barely any English speaking crew asked my wife how the window had to be installed like they were clueless as to how they just pulled the window out again. Bathroom was mis-framed, a column was supposed to be in a wall but is not, We asked for some type of dust/ dirt mitigation (expecting that regardless there would be some due to the work done) but there was none done and only a sheet of plastic put up after repeatedly telling them to do something. Debris was left all over my basement while work was done and the first inspector said this was a disaster of a job site. Once my son was born I found out my house failed what was supposed to be the "final inspection" and I was again sent repeated invoices for a job that was not completed. Genesis is quick to request money for work that isn't completed. I have supplies that I can not return due to their delays, a basement that still requires more work after they stated they were done, additional damages to my home that were not compensated for. The owner never responded to any of my messages, the project manager was apologetic and just repeated it'll be 2 weeks, as my house was his first basement job. I waited 2 weeks with no response from the owner and they put a lean on the house that was removed after much back and forth about compensation and final payment. What was promised as a 3-4 week job, per the owner, took 5 months, more of my own money lost on continuous repairs and supplies unused and unreturnable, a home that is not still not able to be done after my son turned 7 months due to their mistakes, lack of communication, poor planning. My home was never a priority but a filler job. I found posts about Genesis dropping what they had going on todo other work for someone getting their house ready to sell. There is many more issues that I can't list here. I personally regret reaching out to their company if I really knew how they treated really treat their customers. read more

We used Genesis after comparing three different companies. We hired Genesis to complete a remodel on our master bathroom. It was fortunate we had the project done when we did. They not only found the usual rot issues, but figured out why the back of home was always cold in the winter and hot in the summer. You guessed it...the builders did not insulate the ceilings in the back of home. Not only does our new bathroom look great but it is much warmer. Mark, Travis, Kayleigh, and Kim from the Genesis team were all very helpful and professional. The Genesis team was always prompt about answering any text or phone calls regarding the project and tried to keep on top of their subcontractors which is not a minor feet these days. I would also like to thank Mr. Berrera and Able which were two of the sub contractors. They did excellent detailed worked on everything they touched and were very courteous and helpful. read more

My insurance company recommended Genesis to make repairs due to water damage. They recommended them because they supposedly stand behind their work for 5 years. The work involved replacing a ceiling, carpet, a bathroom shower and various other smaller tasks. Let me begin by saying the estimator that came out was very kind and professional. And the individual contractors that came out to do the drywall, painting, carpet and electrical work (when they finally showed up) did a good job. That all being said, I found this to be one of the most dysfunctional companies I've worked with. Owners are non-responsive and do not take care of their customers. I left messages with the CEO and never received a return call. Project Managers are disorganized and poor communicators. I would have to constantly call to find out when a contractor was coming. Sometimes it took several days before I would get a return call. I had multiple days of no-shows and other times a contractor would just show up with no notice. The last task they needed to complete was the installation of shower doors. They installed them, but after they left, I noticed there were 1/2 inch gaps at the bottom side of each door. When you turn the shower on, water leaks out the gaps onto the floor. I told the Project Manager about the problem, and he said he would send someone out to fix it. But before he sent someone out, he wanted me to sign over to him the last check from the insurance company. I was reluctant to do that, but he insisted that it would get fixed and that they guaranteed their work for 5 years - so no worries. He did send someone out (twice) to fix the shower doors but they were clueless as to how to fix it. I made several calls to Genesis to get this resolved, but no response. I also asked several times for an accounting of what had actually been spent on materials compared to what the insurance company paid. The Project Manager said he would provide that, but of course I never received it. It has been several months now with no response from the company, and I've been forced to go out and pay for a new set of doors and have them installed. I have notified my insurance company so that they do not recommend this company in the future. read more

We hired Genesis to completely install a new shower for our father who had a stroke. The shower they did was beautiful and is exactly what was need. We hired them again to do some painting, convert an attic into a closet/office, and build a deck. Pete was the gentleman who did most of the work. Except for the deck. He was wonderful and became part of the family. They worked with our schedule and kept in touch with us for all steps of the project. We don't like to leave reviews however with this company we are making an exception. Worst experience we've had with a contractor. At first the reps that came out to give the estimate were very Professional and kept good communication. Problems started once the work began, 3 different people came to measure our windows & door and still managed to get the wrong size windows. The project manager ended running to a Lowe's near by to get replacements, it fixed the problem which was great however we had paid for better quality windows. Not to mention our front door took forever to come in and was damaged by the manufacture twice. I texted the estimator who was in charge of ordering the materials several times and he never responded. Project manager tried his best but seemed clueless of what to do. Over priced for the quality of work they gave us. We would not use them again or be referring them to friends and family. They need better train employees not random hired subs that don't even know who hired them to do the work. read more

Mark and his team did another great job for us at our main home (they previously did a substantial roof and siding project for us at my aging mother's home in early 2019, and had coordinated the entire project around her chemo treatments). I have been in the commercial construction industry for 36 years, and understand that some residential projects are just too much for DIY'ers. This particular project involved the removal and replacement of a door and sidelight opening in our main living area. The glass in the original system from 1997 was failing and the overall installation was shoddy, allowing air infiltration. The new door unit (9' long double-door with sidelights) was better quality than expected, and the installation looks and functions great. Will definitely keep doing business with the Genesis team. read more

We were referred to Genesis by friends to do repairs on our drywall due to our home settling after 1 year. Mark and the employees were friendly and prompt with the estimate for the work we needed done. Unfortunately once Genesis was in our home the work was rushed and areas were missed and not finished. We had to point out areas that they missed. Genesis returned 2-3 times to try and fix what they missed. After they left it took us 2 weeks to clean up paint splatters on our hardwood floors. Unfortunately if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. I will be attaching photos of the poor/unfinished mud work on the drywall. Genesis was more worried about their check than the quality control of their work. We will not be recommending Genesis to anyone. read more

We had a pipe leak on our upper level while we were away for several weeks. We returned to a house with most of the west side of the house water damaged - ceiling caved in, walls stained and wet, wood flooring wet and buckled. Our insurance assigned the case to Genesis and we are so glad they did. They were very responsive and after a bit of a slow start on the actual repair work, they moved out smartly. Their paint team did amazing work repairing the ceiling and walls - they look better now than when we moved into the house when it was new. When there were a few things that we were not happy with, they were quick to resolve our concerns. Only trouble spot was they had to sub out the stair repair and that company (the company that built the stairs when the house was constructed) was difficult and unresponsive but Genesis - and our project manager, Stephen, stayed on them and harassed them into fixing the stairs as they should. We are very pleased with all the repairs. read more

We contacted Mark, the owner of Genesis Home Improvement to receive estimates for three small home improvement projects. He scheduled a Thursday appointment, but did not show up until my wife called him. He apologized and admitted that he never added the appointment to his calendar. Even three days later, we have not gotten an estimate for any of those projects. A follow-up message from my wife has not been answered. I would not trust this company to take care of my restoration needs. read more

Horrible - would not recommend. We agreed to use Genesis to build our deck and it has been a regretful decision ever sense. Honestly, at times it was simply comical with the level of poor planning, material ordering mistakes and lack of proactive scheduling. The sales and design process was poor as well as the overall project execution. Our Project was suppose to start early March and didn't start until early May. Here we are mid-July and project is still not complete. Numerous mistakes through out project, signs of disorganization, poor communication and follow up. We (the customer) has had to do most of the follow up, catch the mistakes made and deal with third party contractors they hired for electric and gas to ensure project gets finished. We are highly disappointed and will not recommended nor use Genesis again. read more

Genesis came out to inspect our roof since we had a water leak and they also gave us a quote on how much it would cost to get the entire roof replaced if we did decide to do that. Also there were issues that happened but that was just due to total confusion with our warranty company, us, and them. Anyhow, all I can say is Genesis is a great company and the people who run Genesis are great. Very professional and very polite. Thank you Genesis Home Improvement. We needed to have our gutters replaced. Genesis came out to look at it and give an estimate. We chose to have them do the job. They arrived when they said they would and did a great job. They coordinated everything well, and there were no problems when they finished the work. I found their communication and customer service to be top notch. read more

We had siding, new roof and ridge vent, 2 exterior doors, deck remodeling, electric repair to outdoor outlets, and new gutters installed on my house that was built in 75. GHI did a phenomenal job finishing well ahead of schedule and under the quoted price. I have used many other contractors, but GHI is now my only call. I can tell that this is also a great contractor from hearing the employees interact with one another. They were jovial and got along well and did not talk bad about the owner , their boss, the job, or each other. These were conversations that I'm certain these guys didn't know I heard. Again great contractor and highly/ seriously would recommend to anyone!! read more

I don't think I have ever written a review, but I am really taken back by the experience we just had. We are very disappointed in how this company handled our flooring project. We were first told that our old hardwood flooring needed to be pulled out before installing the new flooring. We were fine with that and agreed to a price with the flooring pro. The day of the project the flooring pro was not there and the men there to do the work said the flooring should not be torn out. They said it would be too messy. The pro never came back to see if this was correct and only said over the phone that they know what they are doing so they put a few pieces of plywood on our other floor to level it to the old hard wood and laid the new flooring over. What was suppose to be a 4 day project was done in two and we were told we had saved money so we were thrilled. Turns out they did not reduce the cost, we paid the same amount for a significantly less amount of work. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WHEN IT COMES TO PROJECT COSTS !! There is poor communication with the actual company and the people they hire to do the work. A man from the company even came to take final pictures and told us we had saved money, but come to find out a few hours later this was not true. I will say they did a good job, worked quickly, and the floor looks great, but the dishonesty with pricing and charge for work that was not done (charging the same amount for a days worth of work pulling out old hard wood for a 15 minute job of drilling in 7.5 pieces of plywood) is unacceptable. We were going to ask them to complete a few bathroom projects and a deck, but absolutely no way now. read more

Called the owner, Mark Jenkins, traveling north on I-95 with major rain heading our way at home in Virginia and a ceiling leak I was afraid of major water damage. Within 2 hours we had new boots on our vent stacks. Mark didn't expect a credit card over the phone, he did the work and sent me a bill once we were sure the leak had stopped. We'll be looking for a new roof in the future and we will be calling Genesis Home Improvement to do the job. Reliable and affordable and fair..can't ask for more then that. read more

Mark and his crew are really fantastic. We couldn't be more pleased with the project we chose for them to do. We had a wall put up to close off our front living room to make into an office with french doors. The work that was done turned out really nice and we are very pleased. I highly recommend Genesis to anyone that needs work done at their home. You'll get honest, professional, amazing results going with them. I am not inclined to write negative reviews but this company worked hard to earn one. My insurance company referred me to Genesis following a roof leak. They were supposed to tarp the roof, but forgot the tarp. Doh! The man overseeing the work said they would be repairing or replacing the roof. I explained those steps had not been decided, and I would definitely select my own roofing contractor. He was clearly irritated with that. A Spanish gentlemen installed two small patches. Within 8 weeks, these were leaking before we were able to schedule our full roof replacement. In the mean time, they kept calling asking for payment. We explained we were waiting for payment from insurance. In response to the leaks, they said they would not guarantee their patch for more than two weeks, would not refund the money, and would not repair their work. Their responses were terse and arrogant. I am not clear how insurance companies maintain a relationship with a service provider like this, but I certainly will not. Fortunately, I have selected a professional company for the roof replacement. read more

Well, this was not the review I wanted to write for this company as I was excited to use them. They were referred to me by my insurance company. Unfortunately this has to be one of the most dysfunctional companies I have done business with in a long time. I could write a book on how bad they are but will spare you most of the details. It took them almost 6 months to do the job, they claim to be too busy yet they did not communicate that to anyone. Had we known it would take them that long we would have contracted a different company to complete the job. They dropped a trailer off blocking my garage one day while the wife and I were out without notice. Thankfully we already had the car out. I had to call for status updates several times. When they finally did the job, it looked terrible and I found a hand full of nails in my yard, including one of those big ones used to put up gutters. My son's car was parked next to the trailer when they were removing the old roof. We would have gladly moved the car if they had asked but they didn't. When I walked outside I saw that they had missed the trailer and there was an old shingle on my car. Thankfully it didn't do any damage, it's an Audi and a very nice car. They were supposed to install a ridge vent and didn't. I called my insurance company out to inspect and found that not only were the shingles not aligned correctly but that they also billed the insurance company to replace all of the flashing and did not replace any of it. In my opinion that is insurance fraud. The inspector also stated that the shingles needed to be redone and aligned correctly. They sent out a crew a couple weeks later to fix the error. It took them all day only to find out that when they put the shingles back on they again did not align properly. The insurance company required them to take picture and they did however they did not take any picture showing the shingles still misaligned, which in my opinion is as bad as lying. I took pictures and sent it to my insurance company where they clearly show the shingles still misaligned. Now, Genesis is stating that I am being petty (even though it was the inspector that pointed it out) and are refusing to fix the issue. My insurance company has stated that I need to get bids to have the roof repaired and that it will be deducted from what Genesis was going to be paid. More headache for me! I have asked to talk to the owner and not only have they refused to give me her/his contact information but she/he has never reached out to me. This is completely unacceptable. Bottom line is this company has been very dishonest and has in my opinion attempted to defraud my insurance company. The work they did needs to be fixed and something that should have taken a couple weeks to complete has now been going on for almost 8 months. It's very sad.. All I can say is stay far away from this company! I was really hoping I was going to be able to write a good review! read more
