I am a longtime Hyundai customer and really like their cars. My wife, my two children and I drive Hyundais. Last December I bought a 2020 Elantra for my daughter and financed it through Hyundai Motor Finance. I have an 850 FICO and pay my bills upon receipt. I received an email asking me to set up an account on their website, and despite having all the information they asked for, the account did not get established without having to make two calls to their Customer Service Centers. I have designed several eCommerce websites for my own businesses and am comfortable in HTML and JavaScript programming, as well as having created several dozen applications in dBASE in the 80s and 90s, so computer literacy is not my problem. The website does not work well and does not appear to have been beta-tested.
On April 20, I bought a Sonata N Line - an amazing car - and elected to finance it through Hyundai Motor Finance. Today I received an email from the company asking me to register so that my payment account could be set up. The email said that the account could be set up with my VIN. When I entered my account, I found a link for adding an account, which told me that I needed an account number and the last six digits of my VIN to do the set up. The email did not contain an account number, and the instructions said to look for the account number in my welcome letter, which I have not received. I called the Customer Service Center, and a very rude young woman acted as if I were stupid. She read me the account number for the N-Line very slowly. I read it back to her and she confirmed it was correct.
I returned to the entry screen, and received a message saying that the account number needed to be either 10 or 14 digits long. The number the young woman had given me was 13 digits long, so I called back and reached a representative who even more rude than the first one. Neither one displayed even the bare basics of telephone etiquette. She asked me when I purchased the Sonata - I said a week ago - and she said that account numbers are not even issued until 3 weeks after the purchase. I asked why the company would send me an email asking me to register if the information I needed to register was not yet available. I also told her that another representative on a previous call had given me what she said was my account number, and I had read it back to her, and she confirmed my transcription of it.
She then went off the phone for awhile, returned and said "You missed a number" and gave me the corrected number. Then just to rub it in a bit more, she said, "You understand you missed a number?"
I finally got my account set up. It shouldn't be this hard to make arrangements to pay an installment contract. I've decided to finance any future Hyundai purchases with anyone other than HMF. read more
