First off, $28 for MOHAWK is ridiculous, considering 50% of my hair should not be touched! In addition, the cut I received wasn't mohawk. All of my side were cut down to the same length and the barber cut some of the hair on the top by accident, which I didn't notice until I got in my car. The only part that can be considered a mohawk is how he tapered the bottom of my hair. After expressing the cut wasn't what I was asking for, I was still charged $28. My normal go to barber was all booked up this Saturday so I decided to give the Roundrock location a try. My son and I arrived at the shop about an hour before the 8am crew of barbers started pouring in. I approached the owner, Allex, after he had arrived to see if he was accepting walk-ins for the day. He responded yes, but that I would have to wait behind three other men, who were also waiting in the shop. I asked if he was running off of a schedule for the day because I had arrived well before his three other walk-ins, and his response to me was, and I quote..."man I don't even know you". Prior to my experience today I have seen reviews in the past highlighting unprofessionalism within Generations Barbershop, but it's another thing to experience it first hand with the owner of the shop, who should be setting the tone for the customers experience. In no way is it acceptable to handle potential clients by essentially dismissing them. Find a barbershop that values you as a customer! I'd been looking for a barber that can properly do a fade for a while; for whatever reason, I had zero luck finding one in Austin. More often than not, I had to wear a cap to cover up the atrocity that became of my grape. I had pretty much given up and resigned myself to the fact that I would probably have to head back to Houston and get the haircut by my homeboy. That's where Generations came to light. It may have been a matter of serendipity, fate, destiny, whatever you want to call it, although if Kate Beckinsale were waiting for me at the shop, it would have been the best thing to happen in a long time. Alas, she wasn't there. But, the dude that started the thread in talk, and Nicki's recommendation made it so. I met with Joe and he asked what it was the I wanted, how I liked it, and to have a seat. I liked him immediately. His attention to detail is superb and he takes his time, meaning that you won't get a ten minute chop job that leaves the lumps on your head more pronounced than they already were. Various clips, some shears, a little bit of water, and the slight sting of the alcohol solution later I walked out a happy camper. The shop is clean, with barbers on both sides of the wall and a long couch in the middle for customers or parents to wait. Prices are definitely reasonable, comparing them to other places I have seen, and for said price, you cannot go wrong. About the only knock I have is that it's up in the Pflu. I don't make it up there often, but can definitely see myself going there to get the grape taken care of on a regular basis. read more

My son really likes this place. We sometimes go to the Generations in Round Rock but he likes this location better. He doesn't have a set barber because it's usually a text saying mom I need a haircut. So we go. But he says its a nice spot and the conversations are funny and serious sometimes but a good atmosphere. I like it because since my son isn't driving I've not experienced a long wait in the car. It seems maybe 30 mins max from entry to leaving. He always loves his haircut. If you follow me on Yelp you know my son thinks he's a celebrity and his favorite words are "no pictures" so I don't have a picture of his fresh haircut but take it from mom (ME...duh) I'm pleased. I went to this establishment a few weeks ago. I was excited for a change to my hair, but I can say I was completely disappointed with my outcome. I am very particular when choosing someone for a service, when it comes to hair or a haircut I have to like ALL of your work in the portfolio. I truly liked all this individuals work plus her many year of expertise. However, when she got her hands on my head I have no idea what happened! I went in for a female undercut. Well there are many undercuts but I showed her specific picture of what I wanted, and I let her know that she could free hand the design...it just needed to be cute and professional. I completely made her aware I am back in the job market seeking full time employment and doing interviews as well I am currently a substitute teacher. Based on what I saw in the mirror I have no idea what she was thinking. First of all you could clearly tell that she began the part too wide and in the picture it was more narrow. Since she started it too wide the entail made the peak of the V in the undercut 1-2" higher than what it should have been. It would've been better had she parted my hair&let me see the back 1st. Let me make this clear I don't have a problem with short hair, I have alternated between short and long hair my entire life and have been bald from chemotherapy and clearly rocked it and loved it! However, with the cut being so high it wasn't what I asked for and that is the problem.The free hand design was not cute nor professional and I didn't even know what it was. I really have no clue where she thought I was going for an interview.Friends and family back home in VA agreed it was too high and even asked what the design was and all I could say was "I have no clue". I mentioned she had skills from what I have seen in her portfolio and even one of my cousins suggested that may not have been her work, but I was like I know people do that but that would be a lot of work to steal every single picture so I doubt that because that was a lot of pictures.A natural part of my personality is analyzing body language, and maybe because prior to my illness I was and used to reading non-verbal body language as a psychologist, working in mental health, and other places, and now working in education. So I can understand why she didn't know but when you get that mirror in your hand and see your hair most people at least women smile and give a sign they like it. I said "oh ok" and gave her the mirror back. I was willing to give her a chance to rectify it but I am apprehensive about that. When I conveyed it to her that it needed to be fix she said that she couldn't tell I was disappointed and apologized. She mentioned that we obviously had a break down in communication, but I disagree with that. I was clear with what I wanted. She saw the picture and regarding the design if she wasn't clear what was professional she should have clarified that information since we apparently have two different views of what professional really is, that is clear! The only way that it looks like the peak of V is where is should be is when I place my hair in a bun. One thing I don't need is validation from other people, but ironically I haven't received one compliment since I have gotten it done. LOL. That has NEVER happened in my life, I always get at least one compliment on my hair style, hair cut or whatever. Hell I even had people approach me in public that told me I looked really good and pretty with a bald head, they thought it was a fashion thing and they were completely shocked it was because I was a cancer survivor. So again I don't care about short hair, but again I didn't get what I asked for. I am a person that likes stability. I am used to having the same stylist and/or barber or a nail tech for many many years, and I have yet to find that person since I moved to Texas (Austin). Just like I started doing my own nails because I could never find anyone worth staying with either because their work was so-so. One minute everything would be great and the next it would be horrible and instead of listening to the client and/or clarifying what the client wants they do their own thing or they were rude. So, it looks like I need to learn to do my own haircuts like I learned to do my nails, acrylic, and designs. I already do my own hair, trims, make wigs..just need to learn to braid and use clippers because I don't think I will ever find a person here for any service and it's been 6 years. After sharing the photo with my best friend even said you can't catch a break with your hair or nails, that is sad he had to mention that. Since this isn't bad braids I can take out or crochet braids that I can cut or style to make it into something if done wrong I had to get the damage assessed bc when a haircut is done it's done! There is nothing that can be done about the height, I just have to allow it to grow out and go get a design by someone else or just let my hair grow back. read more

Never going or recommending this place again!!! ------------------------------------ I was cruising town looking for something to be open on a Monday to cut my son's hair. I showed up and the place was open (yay!). The kind gentleman took my son and asked him what he wanted. My son wanted a mowhawk and he was cool with it. Then I noticed that this was a predominately black barber shop (we are Mexican) and I straight out asked if this was a black barbershop. The barber laughed and said blacks are mostly their clients but they welcome everybody. Another funny thing is that my son had long hair (shoulder length) and he also said they don't get many clients with long hair lol. But the barber was super dope, kind of a perfectionist. I have been in to the Pflugerville location several times, and each time I have had a less than positive experience. While the barbers seem like decent guys, the level of customer service was less than I expected. One time I waited two hours for a barber to finish seeing his regulars. He told me that he was going to the restroom and that he would be right back. He never returned. One of the other guys was good enough to tell me, "hey man...he aint coming back." On a different occasion, I waited an hour and half...only for all of the guys to say..."Oh man, we are all finished for the day." My brother convinced me to give this location another shot. I came in today...a barber sat a customer in his chair and went to the back for 20 minutes. The shop opened at 8 oclock, and at 8:35...there were only 4 barbers working. Just expected a black owned business to take better care of their black customers. This was just my experience. Im others have had better ones. read more

Google says they are open 24 hours M-W. I thought, "that can't be". Their FB page has a different set of hours than Google. I called to confirm what their FB said, open til 8 on Friday. Guy says they close at 7....sh#t like that annoys me. FB also says they are open on Sundays. I ask to schedule an appt on Sunday, guy says "hold on" and hands the phone to some other guy, that guy gets on and just says "Hello". So I tell him I would like to schedule an appt for Sunday. He says "I'm not gonna be here this Sunday, sorry." and hangs up on me while I was mid sentence trying to inquire about another barber that might be available Sunday. WOW!.. Where do I begin? Generations is my go to place. Today was my first time coming in. I saw rows of barbers full of clients. I don't like waiting so once I came inside I was greeted and told who would cut my hair. I came in asking for Joseph because my friend recommended him but he was busy with 3 customers in line. James was the barber who cut my hair. This man told me what I wanted without me even asking. How he knew was beyond me. James did a couple of things without asking me that turned out newer and fresher than I would have had done if I told him my original plan. James is my new go to guy but I'm sure if he was busy any other barber in there would take care of me. They're friendly and they have their prices in the shop. It's a better priced place verses all these hipster Austin places that charge $50 just to bring you a hot towel. Here I have room to leave a fat tip that was well deserved.
