If you're into vintage hunting and don't mind putting in a little effort to find a gem, Generation Cool is definitely your kind of spot. First off--this place is a little tricky to find, so keep your eyes peeled. Once you're inside though, it totally delivers on the vibe. Think curated vintage meets treasure hunt. It leans more on the pricier side for thrifting, but you can tell a lot of the pieces are intentionally selected and very on-trend right now. Where this place really shines? The t-shirt situation. It's basically a massive tee lover's playground. Bins and racks full of vintage graphics--you could easily walk out with a full haul if you're willing to dig a bit. I also loved the unexpected retro toy selection. We're talking He-Man, Ninja Turtles, and all kinds of nostalgic throwbacks that make the space feel fun and not just fashion-focused. Pricing-wise, yeah--it's a little high for thrift, but they do have some $5 bins that are worth flipping through if you're in the mood to hunt for a deal. It's a pretty fun place to visit. My fiancé and I watched the Netflix show that showcased this location so we decided to stop and check it out. It's really spendy but also serves a niche hard to find in any retail environment. If I was more into fashion I would have loved this place even more. It does does have some pretty amazing pop culture items but is totally for a certain niche crowd that is into hard to find vintage fashion. We are big fans of Slobby's World, as I am super into 80s/90s pop culture and thrifting so finding this show was incredible. My boyfriend and I binged it and joked about going to Tucson to meet everyone. We were so fortunate to be able to pop-in on our vacation and meet them! This place is absolutely awful the girls that work there may be pretty attractive but that's the only good thing about the store is being able to go in there and look at them. A tiny pin that I found on eBay for $10 this guy was trying to sell me for $40!! What a horrible disappointment! First of all, the store looks like empty most of the time. I've walked by plenty, and tried shopping there twice. I understand it's probably hard to find good items and keep them on the shelves, but the pickins were extremely slim both times I went in. Some of the items aren't even for sale. The inside of this place is a lot like a garage sale except everything is enormously over priced. I'll respect the fact that a business has the right to sell their merchandise for whatever price they choose, and that's fine. And I also know that rent on 4th avenue is probably not cheap... but the markup on these items is absurd. It's also worth noting that the staff was not helpful during either of my visits. After multiple attempts to ask a few questions and perhaps get them talking about the merchandise or nostalgia (am I crazy for expecting they'd want to?), I realized that they were more interested in checking their phones and turning their back to me. It's a nostalgia store, why wouldn't you want to get your customers excited about being there? This place has potential, but it falls far short of anything special or spectacular. I think with a few changes, Generation Cool might survive for a few more years, and I hope they do. From my experiences at this place, I wouldn't be surprised to see a STORE CLOSING sign in the window sometime in 2016. read more

First step in and I feel like I am dreaming, everything I remember from childhood. Sweet décor recalling some great moments in our generation's history. Vintage clothing displayed prominently at the door, and organized shelving displaying the great toys of the 80's and 90's. Even the music was vintage to the era. The staff are knowledgeable and approachable. Striking up a conversation with the owner is a must. Amazing deals, great finds, and the nostalgic value. After watching the Netflix show I had to check out the store while visiting Tucson. Great nostalgic figurines, action figures and clothes from the 90s. The cool thing was owner Robbie was in the store and suuuuuper cool. So friendly and spent time helping us look for an item. I told him we were looking for an MCM item for our friend to put her son's ashes in. He died on his high school graduation night. Robbie was so empathetic and sweet that he gave us a discount on a pouch. And his employee was very friendly, helpful and available. I'll always stop by this store when visiting Tucson. read more

Shop inventory is cool but seems super over priced. I Have found identical items in identical condition on Etsy and Ebay for wayyyyy less than what they sell for here. I'm not a collector, I just like vintage clothing. Maybe collectors are willing to pay astronomical prices for items. I get it. Generation Cool has a cool inventory, but the young generation running it is a disappointment. I've been to this shop dozens of times: the prices are aimed at collectors rather than the everyday person, (try ebay for better prices, unless you like shopping in a store.) I've never seen the staff prioritize helping customers: they seem like they're high, on their phones, talking with friends (who just hang out in the store), or all three. When the staff engages with customers, it's dismissive and neglectful. I was told by one employee they would trade / buy some of my retro toys, however upon bringing them in, they didn't look at the toys and told me they don't want them. I don't enjoy shopping in a store where it's a struggle to get the cashier to pay attention. Seems to me like the young generation of people working there don't want it to be a real job, and whatever inconvenience that creates is passed along to their customers. Such a disappointment for such a cool idea for a shop, I really wanted to like this place. I hear they're opening up an arcade soon, so I hope the service there is better. read more
