We happened upon this neat old former general store in Altona that was turned into a bar about five years ago.
The building, the F.H. Olson General Store, originated as general store for the railroad back in the steam engine days (mid-19th century) between Galesburg and Kewanee.
Now it's a bar offering free peanuts, popcorn, pool, and shuffleboard. They had six tap beers, plus bottles and cans, mostly domestic with a few imports.
The interior retains a lot of the history with wood floors, tongue and groove ceilings, and bead board walls.
The bartender was friendly and told us a bit about the history of the building and what they had to offer, which also includes Butch's pizzas and an outdoor seating area.
If you find yourself nearby, stop by for a drink and enjoy the history. read more
