I absolutely love books, reading and libraries. As I mentioned in other review before it is…read moredifficult to top Navan's area library so I decided to explore the Drumcondra one in my spare time. This library has pros and cons but overall can be considered solid. The building has been recently renovated and is located in a very residential area close to Griffith Park. Good quiet location, friendly staff and in general good selection of books/dvd's/magazines... The low points are the fact that is very small which means less space to browse and fewer chairs to sit on while you enjoy your book. Also this is not your "average quiet place to energize your brain cells" as it is usually full of kids. Maybe in the early morning is more quiet but in the time I went, at about 3pm the place was packed with children laying around, playing video games, talking to each other (all in uniforms clearly right out of school hanging out there). There is a public toilet that can be useful but because of the crowd, the whole roll of toilet paper was wet. Still cordial neighborhood people, the possibility of borrowing up to 12 items at a time (which is a lot) and a highlight is that as libraries tend to close down very early, this one opens after a mid-break going til 8pm twice a week, definitely a win! Here in Deans grange is a card & gift shop with a post office right in the middle of it... which makes sense when you need to send something to a loved one but have left it till last post the day before the special occasion .... There's a whole wife and anniversary joke here somewhere but damned if I can put it together. The shop is hallmark so funnily enough there are lost of 'cutesy' cards and cuddly toys and also a stationary section. The staff are friendly which you'd expect in a hallmark shop!

My first time…read morewas due to a minor quarrel with a security guard and myself over some of my artwork of which's canvas was deemed 'unacceptable'. I was young and feckless. Nevertheless, I was admitted to the Garda Hq for my 'wrong doing'. When I first entered, I thought the lighting was somewhat gleaming and interrogative. Not exactly what anyone would consider an enjoyable atmosphere when trying to settle down and solve a debate between authority figure and rouge teen.. The cubical in which I was led to was cold and heartless with even more unreasonable lighting for our intended discussion. Also it seemed like one of them places where there were more staff members than customers as all I could see was a blur of uniforms and no other opportunist criminals willing to use this government provided service. Perhaps it was just a bad season for them. Left for an excruciatingly long time alone without my shoes, my server finally returned to discuss the matter in hand. It was settle there and then being put down to a communicational mishap and he was even so kind as to arrange my father to give me a lift home- something I have never experienced with any other restaurant or meeting place and an admirable attribution to Dundrum Garda Station. Nevertheless, they loose stars for punctually in solving petty differences. Reiterating, there are a number of Garda members that work at the station, perhaps a few too many considering the lack of crime in our humble community.. However, there are a couple of very butch but beautiful ladies I would consider returning to the station for pending future lighting renovations and atmospheric reconsideration. I do particularly like the uniforms but perhaps a more traditional whip and chains could replace the pepper spray and batons. Just a suggestion but I do believe it would help business.

I am constantly amazed at the amount of newly printed books which are put on the shelves.This library would put the main library in the city centre to shame! They have a huge amount of information in this library and there are regular talks eg on local history. They have around 12 PC's for public use. The children's library is divided from the adults library so it is is much quieter as a result. They have a really good local history section and a very interesting lego building on display. I won't spoil the surprise ;-)
