Rude, heavy set man up front took it very personal that I didn't want my eyes dilated. So personal that this guy apparently decided to hold my contacts hostage. After two weeks, I dropped by to see what was up with my order and he declared snidely that he called twice and was told wrong number. I looked at the number on the paper, and it was my correct number. I said he must have dialed wrong. He says he absolutely did not dial the wrong number and insists that an older woman answered the phone and said "wrong number" both times. Very indignant. I guess I must have blacked out and decided to play pranks to delay getting my lenses. Such a shame, because the optometrists and the rest of the staff have always been amazing. My husband and I will not be back, and I will certainly tell other local people my experience. I feel sorry for anyone who has to interact with that toxic personality on the daily... my sympathies are with you. read more

Super helpful staff who explains it all to you instead of slapping a price in front of your wallet like most places. Opticians are very good at what they do and do not sell you anything you don't want unless it's absolutely necessary. Other places just tell you a cost where General Optical staff explain what and why they are offering what they suggest. Very knowledgeable and friendly. read more

Went to this place to buy safety glasses. One young lady asked if we needed help with something. There was another man there on the phone, another young man came behind the desk, and then someone came and sat down at the computer where we were standing. No one said another word to us and we finally walked out about 10 minutes after we walked in. Not friendly and not helpful at all. Many other Places to check out. Left a review on Google also due to lack of respect of the company especially femton store. Called to.order contacts because script was good until April 4th and the guy who very rude and disrespectful on the ph said I can and I would be in tomorrow to.pay for them. Then he called back and said he cannot order them due to being to.close to the date of the script and proceeded to say I was scamming them put of an exam which BTW is paid by my insurance. Only ones scamming If gemral.optical. I was told to contact the owner in Burton. So.i called and of course she was not in and was told she would call the next day. When she called she proceeded to.say they will not honor my script date and I'm trying to.get out of my free exam that my insurance pays for and also she is not the owner she is just the daughter who is running the business into the ground not one good review in 3 years but the good ones from Yeats ago seem to.be pushed to.the top.of the reviews. I told her I would not be coming back to a business that is struggling and over charging and calling customers scammers. But just my luck a place on silver lk rd just down the way actually closer I made an appointment there. I got my exam and contacts for 120 when I was paying just for contacts thru genral.optocal 300 dollars for one box per eye. Oh and also got my free pair of glasses that my insurance covers when the lady at genral told me I was scamming them lol. I'm very happy and please look.for the review on the new place. Give them a call and see how awesome they are and they actually have staff that cares not just one grumpy unhappy old man at genral.optical. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Appointment was quick and easy. The gentleman at the front fitted my glasses before I left so when I came back to pick them up I didn't have to wait around. And some of the reviews I've been reading about this place are definitely not far... I've worked in a busy hospital doing outpatient registration and a dentist office no matter where you go if your late your late that's your own fault they turned you away. They have a schedule to keep. How would you like it if the person ahead of you were 10 minutes late causing you to have to wait.... I highly recommend this location!!! read more

I called for an appointment. My husband is an OTR Truck driver he is having vision trouble. They said the store policy is they won't see anyone who has been out of town for the past two weeks because of the CCP Flu. Did I say he's a truck driver? He's always out of town. I said there is more than 4 million Truckers in the USA, so that number of truckers on the road with vision problems unchecked doesn't seem stupid to you. I'm sorry it store policy she said. Due to unforeseen circumstances we arrived 8 minutes late to our appointment. An appointment that I took off of work for and my daughter had to leave school for. We arrived and the door was locked. She tried opening the door twice to no avail. She came back out to the car where I was on a business phone call. I had to try to cut that short to call the office. The first time I called the call did not go through. The second time I called I was told that if we were more then 10 minutes late we had to reschedule. I explained to the woman on the phone that it was just now 9:40 and we had been there and she said again rudely that we would have to reschedule. The post on the door says they are only seeing patients who have appointment and to call if you need help. Well I had an appointment so we didn't need help, or maybe we could have called two minutes sooner. They lost not only my youngest as a patient but my other daughter who has been seeing them and my mother. This was very unprofessional. read more

Today was my first eye examination in about 2 years. but ive always worn glasses, so i knew exactly what to expect. Now, as far as optometry offices go, you cant really stray to far out of the norm so you cant expect anything extravagant. HOWEVER. the office assistant did her very best and was able to squeeze me in on the only day that i could have gone. the office was very clean, and bright, and friendly. as i am genuinely a funny person, they were very appreciative of the humor i brought to the room. my favorite part was my optometrist. Dr. Scott McDowell is the friendliest eye doctor i could have asked for. he was very intelligent; not only in his field, but wherever our conversation went. i plan on not going to have an eye exam until im back in michigan next year just so i can have him as my eye doctor again. now, being a very frugal person, the only thing i did not like was the prices of most of the frames. BUT you cant expect any less from a private doctor office. I suppose to make up for it they had a 30% off sale. if i was picky enough, this would have earned them 4 stars instead of 5. again, though, i reiterate the fact that you really cant expect anything else from a private office. also, quality glasses ARE going to cost more money than inferior glasses. enough of the rant. Dr. Scott McDowell, you and your assistants are a very hard working, fun loving, educated group of individuals. and im glad that i chose your office to have my examination. read more
