The catering for holiday buffets is terrible. It gets worse with each event. The ambiance is wonderful, except for the ballroom. I'm not sure what that wrinkled drape is covering behind the bar, but it's hideous. Service is good, not great, but they haven't been trained. Raw bar needs cocktail forks and crackers. Main dishes are just barely warm and not seasoned properly. Bake fresh rolls and serve hot! It's like a country menu that tried to grow up. Desserts are shameful. read more

Great historic hotel in Greeneville. General Morgan Inn is situated right in the heart of town and within walking distance of the Andrew Johnson home and visitor center. The hotel dates back to the 1800s and has a lot of interesting design features. I found my room to be spacious and, thankfully, very quiet too. Bed was comfortable and the hotel had decent amenities. It did seem quite dated (ie 90s era brass, carpet, old phone, etc.) with the interior finish. That's probably the biggest issue here. But, it seemed very clean (perfect health score) and is still nice. The only thing that would improve the hotel is to update the interior finish in the rooms. Otherwise, it's good and you'll be comfortable here. I really liked that they give you a $8 voucher for the nearby coffee shop. That's a nice perk since the coffee is better than what you'd find in a regular hotel. Also, they have 3 free Tesla chargers. That's a big benefit if you have a Tesla and want to charge on the road. The Inn is historic and quite beautiful. The location on Main Street is excellent as it is near major historical attractions. Our only issue was the breakfast. For the price, which is not inexpensive, the hotel should provide a full breakfast. A $7.00 pp vouchers at the Catslyst Coffee Shop is insufficient. My wife and I where on a back road excursion recently after coming off a sailing trip from key west to st Augustine fl. We ended up in Greenville TN, and stayed at the Gen Morgan Inn, almost immediately after arriving we extended our stay another night due to the charm of this beautiful historic hotel. As we headed down stairs for dinner, we stop in the bar for a before dinner cocktail. This is where we meet Tim the bartender, which is an insult he is more of a magician behind the bar. I recommend his old fashioned. I would love to tell you the type of wood his bottle opener is made of but that would be cheating. Tim thanks for introducing us to George. Bottom line is do not pass up a chance to enjoy this hotel, restaurant and bar. Makes sure to make you acquaintance with Tim. read more

Beautiful place! The nicest staff! We came down to get married in Afton, TN. The Inn was very accommodating to my million questions throughout the entire process. We stayed in the corporate apartment preparing for the wedding. We stayed in the Presidential Suite the night of our wedding. The only thing I would change is staying another day after the wedding. Loved this hotel and our family had a great 3 night stay. Rooms are very spacious, beds comfy and you have a microwave and refrigerator. Only downside was water pressure in shower is not great. Dinner in restaurant one night was delicious. I had tacos and they tasted great. Front desk staff sweet and helpful. The breakfast that is included is a $7 voucher to the local coffee shop. It works well but don't expect a hit or even all you can eat continent breakfast. A scone snd a latte is about it. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly return. Homophobic, discriminatory, and just filthy. I had no option than to stay here for a weekend when coming home with my husband. We were almost kicked out when they saw us holding hands in the lobby until we told them we were guests. Because "they don't support that kind of thing." Don't support what? Love? People being themselves? Happiness? Do you also have something against a man and a woman holding hands in your hotel? Outside of that, the room was not worth what we paid. Old furniture, uncomfortable bed... The only thing more archaic than their beliefs was the moldy carpet. And the food was overpriced to top it off. This time I had an interior room, oddly with a window with a view of the lobby. The food in the restaurant is very good and the meeting spaces are good. I stayed here recently, and it was almost comical. If you're looking to stay at an establishment with zero customer service and concern for their guests, then the General Morgan Inn is the place for you. Besides the fact that the onsite restaurant is completely overpriced for the most mediocre food I have ever had, and that's if you care to eat there after you're not greeted by anyone including the Manager that is less than a foot away, and along with the fact that there is zero room service, although marketed through the room (which is probably for the best), and not to mention there is not a single person their to offer to hold the door while you have a cart loaded with Christmas gifts, I take that back the women behind the desk and the Manager had eyes on me as a desperately struggled, this hotel is so outdated that it's not vintage, it's just well, old. My room was so basic, my curtains torn, a tv so small you can't see it from the bed. There is so much false advertising as well. Don't believe the 'breakfast included', it's a seven dollar voucher at a coffee shop down the street that doesn't even have breakfast sandwiches. And the voucher decreases in value as the hours go on from 6am. I spoke to the Manager, and asked if someone could please hold the door for me, and was told "sorry, we can't do that". The drapes in my room were torn, just to top off the experience. I have never written a review before, more or less a negative one. But, being in the industry, and working hard for my money, I felt the need to warn others against this ridiculous experience. read more

Beautiful, clean historic hotel located in President Andrew Johnson's hometown. It's located downtown and in walking distance of most of the historic sites ( Johnson's tailor shop, home, burial site-just a few of the sites nearby) The staff was very friendly and accommodating. And the grand entrance of the hotel is an absolutely stunning! Photos do not do it justice, you simply must see it in person. Rooms were very large and beds were extremely comfy. Nice little art gallery located inside.The coffee shop was great but it is small so you're probably better off taking it to go. Staff was great too. The front desk clerk let us know about tours of the Andrew Johnson site. We purchased our tickets ( only 5 bucks) and we greeted by our guide. Our guide was a local elderly man who, to our surprise, was a direct descendent of the Williams family from the historic mansion located behind the hotel. Very knowledgeable about the city and the sites. We enjoyed it. The only issues we had were a slight problem with our TV ( which Amy handled pronto) and the restaurant. I'd love to give a review of the restaurant but after sitting ten minutes and watching tables seated AFTER us being waited on, we got frustrated and went elsewhere. It was NOT busy. So disappointed because the place had great reviews. Menu not very kid friendly.Advice to staff: try to at least acknowledge that we're sitting there! read more

Beware of parking! Have stayed at least a dozen times since the first review. Stayed the weekend of 12/5/19 - 12/8/2019 in the General Morgan suite. In addition to the suite being decorated for Christmas, the entire hotel was decked out. Had breakfast two mornings and dinner on 12/5 at the hotel. The breakfast was way more than I expected (and I've eaten at hundreds of hotels over the years), food quality was excellent and the wait staff was really great. The dinner was what you would expect for the prices and type of hotel it was. My expectation was it should be on par with a Ruth's Chris or upscale hotel - and it didn't disappoint. All six of us commented on how excellent the food quality was. The service was pretty good. The restaurant was slammed that night with a large party event as well as getting ready for the downtown Christmas open house the next day. Our waitress had a really good attitude towards it all and she was hustling. The reason this isn't a five star review is the parking situation and the reason this isn't a one star review is the way the manager responded (it was exactly what it should have been). Travelers beware - there parking at the hotel is not reserved for you. Every night were were there, there was an event being held downtown. The hotel did not section off parking for hotel guests. The first night, we chalked it up to the big dinner event and I went out later that night (around 10) to move the car from a street location to the hotel parking lot. The second night, however, was very frustrating, because once again there was no parking to be found in downtown. When I inquired at the front desk as to where to park, the desk clerk became defensive. I called and left the manager a message asking him to call me. I didn't receive a call until later the next morning, but before I got the message I ran into him in the hotel. He immediately apologized for the parking and the way the clerk responded and he had used orange cones to block off a spot for us for the rest of our stay. That's why this is a four star review - he offered no flimsy excuses and just took care of the issue. While I would have preferred to have had a place to park the first two nights, the way he responded was the way a customer expects when bringing an issue to the attention of a business. What was really disconcerting was that the hotel employee I was inquiring of insisted that the people who stopped in for a free drink due to the Christmas open house was as much a guest at the hotel as we were. I get the principle, but in practice that's just not true. Why does that matter, you may ask? When you're spending $350 a night to stay at a hotel that's not in a major city like New York, San Fran, or Dubai, I think it's reasonable that you are able to park at the hotel. This is a town of 14,000 people and the hotel has surface parking - so hotel guests should have reserved parking. Note, I wasn't the only overnight guest frustrated with the parking. Other guests checking in at the front desk were also complaining. So, if you're staying at the General Morgan, be prepared to have a parking issue if there's downtown, evening activities. The people we were visiting told us that there is always something going on downtown on the weekends so if you're there over the weekend, expect to encounter this. A side note, one of the employees working there did tell me they've talked about the parking issue at hotel staff meetings, but the hotel feels like there's nothing they can do. Hotel owners - you need to take care of your target customer. If that's the locals who sometimes frequent the hotel, make sure overnight guests know that by discussing the parking situation boldly on your website. If the target is overnight guests, block off your lot for hotel guests. The other local businesses around you did that every night and they received no complaints. read more

Really old fashioned hotel in downtown GreeneVille TN. Classy old style. All the staff wears vests and ties. Classic feel. The bathrooms are very dated. Nice. Clean. They have cotton balls and qtips in the bathroom. Not like a modern hotel. They are provided in a dish like ypu might find at grandma's house. The beds are very comfy and clean. The tv is rather small. The staff are top notch. The onsite resteraunt is more pricy than I would like but is excellent. read more

Was a little tough to find. Parking is behind the building. Park on the street to check in. The ladies were very pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean and the cups are real glass. It's the little things... coffee mugs are real too! :) ample space. I got the single king bed room. I loved the box with chocolate in it on the bed and the weather forecast card! Great personal touch. Same price as my family paid at the Hampton Inn and so much better! The history and Victorian style is to die for. I'll review The Brumlee separate after our dinner there. Also, it's within walking distance to a coffee shoppe and an antique store that was actually well stocked with great items. Priced a tad high but still nice. Jessy at the front desk treated us as family. That was the highlight. Were in town for a live show. We got the last room from a cancellation. There is not another place to stay in Greeneville Tn. I found that out from reading reviews and from every person I talked to including the very nice and well mannered local Police Dept. taking care of a festival downtown, still had a presence at the live event. Cold AC. Crisp clean sheets. The bar is beautiful but only opened a few hours each day during our stay. The food is over priced at the bar and limited. The rooms are overpriced. The menu in the elevator is extensive but must be for the dinning room. There were no reservations left for my party for the dinning room. Bartender had his hands full but provided excellent service and was friendly. The hotels' bus shuttle was also wonderful to the event. read more

This is THE place to stay in Greeneville. A beautiful old hotel that embraces it's history but still has most of the amenities that you would need/expect from a mainstream hotel. The rooms are spacious with 15 foot ceilings (not sure if this is all the rooms- probably just the top floor)! Staff is great and we had everything we needed during our stay. It's also centrally located in the downtown area, and while there aren't myriad things to do outside of antique stores, it's still fun to walk around. We also never had an issue finding a parking spot, there was usually street parking right out front in addition to the small lot out back. The bar is fully stocked complete with a fun cocktail list which we were thankful for after a long day. Have had breakfast at the restaurant twice, and it was delish both times! If you like historic hotel, this one has been remodeled but still has the history of hotel. We both loved this hotel. Very clean and spacious. We needed a crib and one quick phone call and in a matter of minutes a person from the hotel was delivering one. Parking is small so you may have to park across street if you stay on a busy night. If you decide to eat at Brumley's (hotel restaurant) - I recommend not eating any type of seafood there. Service is great but the food is not that great. read more

The Morgan Inn, and Jackie (the bartender) in particular are fantastic - every time we're there we love the food, the service, and how accomodating they are to our sporadic joining/leaving/loud/inappropriate groups and conversations. It's all in the details: fancy bathroom's (the women's at least), a computer in the (gorgeous) lobby for anyone to use, seasonal fresh flowers, and salty snacks besides pretzels at the bar. I took my wife to what I was hoping would be a nice upscale Christmas Buffet. After looking on line I found The General Morgan Inn. Their menu caught my attention Prime Rib, Oysters, Shrimp and more. I gave them a call and was assured we would not be disappointed after all it was ONLY $48.00/person. I was ok with the price as I'm the one that chose to go knowing that. When we arrived for out 1:30 reservation. I was impressed at the décor and decorations. We were seated at out table. I went to the cold Seafood Bar only to find there were no Oysters as their menu on line indicated. I then went to the soup station only to find Chicken & Rice (Not the Seafood Bisque) again as their on line menu stated! I asked our waitress and her reply was she didn't know why there was none out. I asked to speak to a Manager and (Becky) came to my table and when I asked her the same question I was told "I will bring up your concerns in our Wednesday Mgr Meeting) but did offer to "comp" our desserts on our next visit! In my option Becky should have done something for this visit as there might not be a second if this is how a concern is handled with a customer sitting there. Meh. I just don't see what the fuss is about. The historic aspect of this hotel is not lost on me, I love the look of the lobby and the fact that they incorporated an original mirror into the bar, but as far as amenities and comfort I'm just not thrilled. The bed was too firm for my wife and I. The blow dryer stopped working after about two minutes of use, as did the radio. Wifi is sketchy and unsecured. Parking is scarce and there is no ramp on the front entrance which made it difficult to get in with the baby stroller. The restaurant downstairs is quite expensive, perhaps because for most of the day it's the only place that's open. The food is nothing to get excited for either. If you're looking for a historic throwback and don't care about anything else then this is the place for you. If you want a nice room with modern amenities, a pool, exercise room and a free breakfast you'd better keep looking. read more

Every year our family goes to the General Morgan Inn for Christmas dinner, Thanksgiving dinner, and Mothers' Day dinner. And, the buffet has always been wonderful. Until this year - Christmas 2014. The cocktail sauce for the boiled shrimp was so strong with horseradish it made one person in our party completely sick. The Butternut Squash soup was too spicy and the garlic covered up the flavor. The desert tabe sign just read "assorted deserts" , there was no warning that one was Peanut Butter Pie, so one of the children who is allergic to Peanuts had a reaction. We heard the people at the table next to us tell the Host about the Cocktail Sauce and he just laughed it off as a new chef. We'll give that new chef one more chance, just one more. read more

This place is so charming. Sadly no ghosts visited us but we enjoyed the comfy king sized bed and hot hot showers. The room was large and very comfortable. The AC fan is loud but did keep the room nice and cool. Rooms and lobby are very clean and parking was never an issue. Highly recommend if you're visiting the area. read more

This has to be one of the best kept secrets in the entire state of Tennessee. From the outside I thought it was just another old hotel. Was I in for a surprise. I was amazed and awed by the grandeur of this place. Such elegance and truly Southern Charm. I was with a group and it was handled extremely well. Stayed here for 4 nights this October. Very disappointed. Maids didn't really clean or mop bathrooms. Talked to the General Mgr. About our concerns. He was pretty laid back.
