They were hired for all air vents and a dryer cleanout on a 2,000 sq. ft. house, and particularly a bad smell coming in the laundry room. On the day of the cleaning Chris and Lee arrived during the agreed upon time window. I showed Lee around the house to the various vents and asked questions about the places I couldn't fully clear a path to the vent. The house's vents hadn't been cleaned during the time I've owned the place so it needed significant work. The same applied for the dryer. The cleaning took roughly 3 hours. I think they did a good job and made sure to take care of cleaning any messes their work caused. The one exception was the dryer blow-out which was left under the outdoor vent. My single gripe was that the final price ended up $100 over the original quote without discussion. However, it was clear that they had a lot of work to do that couldn't have been known without taking a look at things.

They offered a few additional services, which I felt were completely worth the price they were charging, so I had them also clean my dryer duct. I cannot say enough good things about this experience. I was told they did the location, which was not too far from the previous location. DUSTOUT was a small company of 3 or 4 people, including the owner when I had my parents' ducts cleaned, and there was no answering service back in January. In fact, I spoke with the owner himself, who was helpful and knowledgable. In that they were a small company, I wanted to help them by making a point to give them a good review for good service. Fast forward to now, they have a whole answering service apparatus with a phone tree. Everyone loves an answering service with a phone tree! /s So I left a message with the details of the new job. They said they would call back. They didn't. I called *three more times* over the space of a week. I emailed the owner. Nothing. Crickets. I asked if they had new ownership and they said, "no". I asked for an estimate like last time, and now they tell me that they don't give estimates before they arrive. Now, one is supposed to allow them to come and they will tell you how much the job is after they arrive to do the job. (?) Who would agree to that? Not sure what to believe about DUSTOUT now. I have *still* not received a call back. I have not received an email back. So I hired another small company. I'll keep you guys posted on the job he does. I guess DUSTOUT used to be great, but I have no idea what is going on at this company now. My biggest pet peeve is when people (maintenance, plumbers, etc.) put on booties, then go outside to get something and come back in with the same pair, or reuse booties they used at other homes. I was at first worried, but they redid any spots they might have stepped on without me even asking and worked their way out of the house to limit stepping in spots they already did, which tells me they are attentive and actually serious about cleaning!

Their promises of potential utility savings are understandably vague, Our 35 year old home is well insulated and with quality windows, does not have ducts passing through unheated crawl space or attic. Month to month and even year over year it is hard to precisely measure energy use and savings because each season and year has varying temperatures. However, overall after three years of experience, I believe that sealing ductwork improved our comfort and HVAC efficiency and it was a good longterm investment.
