We have gotten take out from Gen Sushi probably 3-4 times now. This was the first time we dined in. The restaurant was clean and all employees were very inviting and nice. Kept checking on us and were quick if we needed anything. The belt was always filled with a great variety of their menu. All the sushi I've ever had here has always tasted fresh. TL;DR: this place overcharges and gave us food poisoning. please save your stomach and wallet the ache and choose somewhere else to go. my boyfriend and i came here last night and were tremendously disappointed. we went around 6pm and it was totally dead, with maybe only two or three other parties there. they were definitely far over staffed than what was necessary with four guys in the center (one, sometimes two were actually making sushi while the others were sitting around), three or four waitresses, all of them mostly standing around because of how dead it was. the restaurant was relatively clean and the only bad thing i have to say about the ambiance was that the music was just too loud. as for the sushi, there was hardly any variety on the conveyor and it was extremely sparse. it was evident that cheap ingredients were used and not much care was taken in assembly. the salmon was very pungently fishy smelling and clearly wasn't fresh and the tuna in the house roll was very evidently canned. as someone who has been eating sushi for almost their entire life, i can tell when an establishment uses fake crab (Krab) instead of real, and this place absolutely uses Krab (i also have a shellfish allergy and i didn't have a reaction, so i didn't actually have a problem with this aspect). both of us got sick last night, my boyfriend more severely that he was up all night and almost stayed home from work today. the pricing here is absurd. we both mostly got the second least expensive plates and only totaled to about 10 plates all together (no more than one of the most and second most expensive plates) and it totaled to over $60. read more

I came in yesterday, after a day of swimming. I had a swim top on and I didn't think much of it as I was dressed accordingly, boy if only I knew how silly I was to have chosen to wear that. Nearly all of the employees just seemed to stare and point directly at me and even motion their heads to eachother to look at me. It was extremely uncomfortable and my friend picked up on the shift in energy in there, placed an order to go, was gone probably within 10 minutes. Maybe brush up with your employees on some proper professionalism on how to act when customers are around, yes I don't understand your language while you talk bad about me, but I can definitely see you pointing and laughing at me. We decided to go out on a limb and try this place after craving sushi. Take-out time on Yelp said it would be ready between 11:29am-11:49am, the order was ready at exactly 11:30am, we were impressed. The quality and quantity of fish is sooo good, salmon belly was amazing for the price. The pieces of fish are generous and I enjoy that the fish to rice ratio is more 2:1 versus 1:1. For take-out they included everything we would need except napkins but we were fine without. The bag the order came in was also stapled shut and sealed for extra security. We ordered right as they opened and everything was fresh. We'll definitely be coming back, we haven't had this type of quality fish for this price in a long time. We also can't wait to try more items on their extensive menu. This is the best conveyer belt sushi we've had in the Portland/Gresham area! read more

I tried Gen Sushi out for the first time today after craving sushi since last March (it might be the one cuisine I haven't had since the pandemic started). I've never ordered take out from this type of sushi place - the kind where you pay by the plate color. Actually, I've never ordered sushi to-go other than grabbing some from a grocery store. With that said, I have no take-out sushi experience to compare it to but I'm sold! I tried the Gresham roll, spicy tuna roll, California roll and edamame. Everything was freshly made as I waited and the end result was delicious. They sent me away with a small container of wasabi, picked ginger, some extra spicy mayo (which I didn't really need, there was enough on the rolls it came on) and packets of soy sauce - everything I needed.
