My Onan diesel generator motor stopped working and Generator Jon diagnosed that my motor had no compression and that I needed a new motor or new generator. A new motor is $9800 without installation and a brand new Onan generator was $11,700. So it made sense to buy a new generator, but finding a new one was very difficult. Jon found the only one in the country in Portland, Oregon. He had it shipped to Boise, Idaho. My new generator was installed today on Oct 7th , 2022. I spent weeks chasing a surging/hunting problem with my Onan 4000 generator. I allowed myself to believe the statements in YouTube videos which, to a one, stated the carburetor (the culprit) could not be repaired and must be replaced. So I replaced it with a highly-rated Amazon product. And for good measure I replaced the air filter, fuel filter, spark plug and oil. And I ran SeaFoam through the engine. No change whatsoever -- the thing still wheezed and coughed like a chain smoker. So I called Gem State Generators for help. He disproved all the YT naysayers who claimed the Onan carb could not be repaired. It is rare to find honest mechanics - John is one of them. He helped us troubleshoot an issue with our generator not starting over the phone. We were scared to follow his direction because we are new to RVs but he said "if I come out to do this for you, it'll cost you $200" so we buckled up and put our hand in our generator - well a few mins later we had a working generator again. John is fantastic! I called Gem State Generators about my Onan RV generator. It would not start even after trying the usual tricks to get it running. John told me on the phone that he new what was probably wrong and would be happy to come take a look and we scheduled a date within a few days on my call. I called him the day before our appointment to confirm and he had me on the schedule. He came to my location and resolved the issue within 5 minutes. He told me what it would cost to do the work and had it running within 30 minutes. He also gave some tips to keep in running properly. John is really good and has 30 plus years servicing generators. He is quick, thorough, fair and, in my opinion, a true professional and expert with generators. Jon was our savior in the desert. We were passing through on our family RV vacation and our generator that produces our AC went out in 97 degree weather. If you have a generator needing repair, I highly recommend Jon at Gem State Generators! I purchased a used RV which had a generator that just would not start. I had taken it to two places to get fixed and neither could get working from a cold start - the last place recommended I call Gem State Generators. I called and setup an appointment. Jon came out to my place, which for me was a bonus because I didn't have to haul the RV somewhere else. Within 20 minutes he had taken apart the carburetor, identified there were some missing pieces, found replacements pieces in his truck, and had it up and running. /RantOn I normally would not comment on this, but I also agree that this is not the forum for complaining someones driving.
