I was just in here and this place is NOT to be believed. I originally only came here because of the high reviews, but realistically, ALL of the five star reviews posted are FAKE. I dealt with Corey, the "employee of the month", who only offered me $50 for my impeccable item currently valued at $700 retail (still being sold online and in stores). He didn't want to look at my original receipt which I had with me, nor did he check the value anywhere online. If he would have attempted to provide this basic level of common sense and common customer courtesy, he would have noticed the true value of this item. Corey decided that he knows the price of every item being sold everywhere online/in stores and came up with $50 off the top of his head. A predatory move places like this use, BE VERY AWARE! BEFORE YOU THINK ABOUT COMING HERE. THINK THREE TIMES OVER BEFORE REALLY COMING HERE! REALLY think about whether you'd like to waste your time and energy coming to a place like this, that truly under values all items, because they are taking advantage of folks in their current situation. MY ADVICE: Places like these follow the SAME SCRIPT. 1. DO NOT answer them with a dollar amount when they ask you how much you want. This is the oldest trick in the book at places like these. Listen when they first speak with folks around you while you're in the store. You'll hear the same script, just with a different cast member (a customer). This is where they cut their offer to you by 1/5 to 1/6th, even before they assess your item. This is NOT how respectable business is done. 2. RESEARCH whether this place has any VIOLATIONS and/or are doing any deals which are ILLEGAL in the state of New York, like STILL pawning iPhone's and iPad's... 3. SELL ON AN APP, OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE INSTEAD that has a true, reputable reputation that can be believed. DO NOT continue to allow businesses like these to continue praying on the vulnerable public. Blessings to all at this holiday season time , especially to my Gem pawnbrokers family; I have been doing business with them for years , and it never fails in receiving the upmost professionalism, consideration, courtesy and respect with every transaction. There was one particular transaction concerning a very special rare piece that I wasn't able to redeem at the bayside location which had expired and finally went up for sale, I had made previous arrangements to hold the piece and they did all that they could but it finally went out for sale to other locations. I thought all hope had failed that the piece was lost; but thanks first be to prayer I inquired about it about a year later, and spoke to Ms. Vivian at the Brooklyn location Flatbush Ave. , she was so nice after I explained to her what had happened and how important the pendant was to me she offered to investigate to see if the piece was sold. She called me back with the good news, she was able to locate the pendant which was incidentally there at the store; she then spoke to her manager and he agreed and allowed it to be redeemed, I was able to pick it up the very same day; upon arrival I was treated with so much love and respect by everyone the minute I walked in the store, they even gave me a Gem coffee mug, a water bottle and a cell phone cleaning kit as a gift just for being a customer. The Gem Flatbush location in Brooklyn I would go as far to say is the best of the other's by far. Overall GEM provides a great service in a pinch. Some folks bad mouth a pawn service. Clearly they never had a cash flow problem. But if YOU do, use them! I used them 20 years ago. I went to the Flatbush store today to pawn 2 pieces of jewelry and I put them on separate tickets, so the gentleman gave me the cash for my chain but he said Bianka wouldn't pawn my pendant for Fear it's Fake. I was totally pissed off because I've Pawned this Pendant with Gem Brooklyn locations for years, plus she saw in the system that I've Pawned before but wouldn't today so I said what type of nonsense is she doing, or maybe she was too lazy to get herself up and test it, she just was sitting down saying no. I went to 2 other of their Locations and I was told it's nothing wrong with this Pendant, and it shows us in the system that is real and how much it weighs and how much is worth so I think she did that out of spite or she's just to big & lazy for the job. read more

I typically go to Gem to Pawn or sell my unused items or for a short term loan but today was my last time. I walked in with a bicycle that sells for a few thousand dollars brand new when i was "greeted" by a extremely rude saleswoman. She actually was laughing at me in front of the whole store and created a scene while the rest of their staff joined in on the laughter. Some people are forced to pawn belongings in order to pay bills and to be laughed at and abused is just wrong and disrespectful. Everything is so nicely displayed, and the merchandise is outstanding. From jewelry to electronics to musical instruments...you name it, they've got it! I went at the urging of a friend and was helped in my quest for the perfect diamond and sapphire ring by Renata Pereira-Ortiz. She was so helpful, patient and genuinely excited about bringing out rings for me to browse through. You could tell she loves what she does, that the merchandise inspires her and that she knows her stuff.
