In the Fall of 2025 my 9 year old Fujitsu Heat Pump started to blink an error code and only worked intermittently.  I looked on the Fujitsu website to find who could service it.  Gelina HVAC was first on the list and is an "Elite Plus" contractor so I contacted them.  I provided them with the model and serial number and a video of the error code.  They told me that it was a communication error and they would have to send someone out to diagnose the problem and parts are still under warranty.  They said it would be $175/hr with a 1hr minimum.  They came to diagnose, spent 2 hours and it cost me $350.  They said they would get back to me with a cost to repair. It took them a few weeks to get back to me and when they called, they told me that my parts were in and wanted me to schedule the repair.  I told them that I hadn't received any communication from them about what the issue is and what the cost is.  The person on the phone told me they would check and get back to me.  Three or five days later another person called me and told me that my parts were in and wanted me to schedule the repair.  I told them again that I hadn't received a quote or an explanation of the issue and what the repair was.  This went on a few times and everytime I told them that I was waiting for a report, quote, information, etc. and was told that they don't give quotes so I asked how do I know what you are doing and what it's going to cost me.  They said that I don't, only that they will charge me $175/hr and it will take 4 hours or more.  I asked what they were going to do to fix it and they said they didn't know but they would get back to me.  Three or five days later another person called me and told me that my parts were in and wanted me to schedule the repair.....you see where this is going.  I spoke with 7-8 people over the course of 4-5 weeks.  By the time I spoke with the last person I told them the entire history and that I wanted a quote, report, e-mail, anything that will tell me what they are doing and what the cost will be.  She said OK, I'll send you an e-mail.  I said really?!  She said yes.  I received an e-mail from her a few minutes later that stated they were going to replace 2 boards, 1 relay and 1 fan for the cost of labor of $1400, which is 8 hours!  I called her back, she didn't answer so I left her a message and she never returned my call. I stewed over it for a month, then my other 9 year old Fujitsu Heat Pump started blinking an error code and working intermittently.  With winter coming quick I decided it was time to call someone.  I decided to call the next company on the Fujitsu website, which was Northeast Heat Pumps and they are also an "Elite Plus" contractor.  I explained to them the issue with my 2nd heat pump, gave them the model number, serial number and video of the error code.  They said it would be $175 to diagnose.  I then told them the story of my 1st Heat Pump that has an issue that Gelinas had already diagnosed.  She said no problem, we can look at that one too.  I gave her the model number, serial number and video of the error code.  I scheduled a date for diagnosis and confirmed with her that it would be $175 each to diagnose and she said no, $175 total to diagnose both....1/2 the cost of Gelinas for twice the work!  Their technician came to diagnose both heat pumps, was there for 2 hours, temporarily fixed the 2nd heat pump and reattached my first heat pump to the wall for $175!  I had a written estimate for warranty replacement of the same parts as Gelinas had told me, but the labor cost was only $217 instead of $1400!  The 2nd heat pump cost $511 in labor and refrigerant.  So for less money than Gelinas I got twice the value.  Also, Don, the Northeast Heat Pump technician is friendly, knowledgeable, considerate and quick.  He called before and after the appointments and wore booties on his feet to keep my floors from getting dirty.  I can't say enough good things about Northeast Heat Pumps! read more

I called in Gelinas to help with a fairly complicated problem when my HVAC system stopped working after a different company removed the old boiler and caused a fair amount of chaos. Mark and Niles spent about one hour with me going over the entire system and were very responsive to my questions and concerns. Gelinas service technicians were prompt and friendly. Unfortunately, they didn't do much to clean out the indoor unit, which hadn't been serviced in several years and was starting to smell funny. They sprayed it with some product that masked the odor for a few days, but now it's back to how it was before they serviced it. read more

I have an expensive annual maintenance contract with Gelinas for my boiler. I'm switching from LP (Propane) to NG (Gas). They came out and quoted me a price for conversion - 2 to 3 times what the job should cost. We emailed back and forth (about things like gas manifolds). When I explained that they had misunderstood the scope of the job and it should cost $400-500 (not the $1500 they quoted), the owner promptly wrote that were overbooked and could not accept the job! Really? A job with an existing customer that you've been discussing for the past 2 weeks? What a joke. Time to find another HVAC company. read more

We have a 7 year old residential air conditioning system in a vacation home that is used approximately 3 months each year. May/June of 2014: our air con was blowing out 73 degree air when set on cold.. We called. Out they came...we were told they would have to obtain misc parts to rewire the unit. After they departed from the first visit, the air con was completely non functional. Before, it was blowing out lukewarm air. After they left, it wouldn't even turn on. We left a month later after 2 service calls and still no air conditioning. We were charged for both visits. We turned the HVAC repair over to our caretaker...below is her summary regarding her experience with this outfit: We had paid rentals during these months while they were fiddling around...so her notes reflect that. Dana and Don, mentioned below, work for Gelinas. ________________ 6.27.14. Gelinas no show for appointment 7.3.14 Dana came and installed replacement part. I came back several days later, not working. 7.10.14 Thursday: Don consulted with Dana, reset temperature in outside unit, refilled water tank. Seemed to be working. Cool air. 7.11.14 Friday: Cool downstairs, but no cool upstairs, Don came, checked on unit in attic, not cold, no pressure. refilled tank? Not sure what else he did. 7.12.14 Saturday: still not cool. Don came back to get air bubble out. (Renters never had ac but did not complain, so I did not know it still was not working until I went to check out house and meet Clair. Gave them the option of having repair done, but they declined. Both groups were fine without. Was not that hot anyway.) 7.29.14 Don repaired leak in the refrigerant line, there was an audible hissing he noticed right away. Said it was not there before. ___________ in terms of billing...we were charged for all visits. Particularly frustrating was that we had a Saturday repair one day after they "fixed" the system on Friday., No, sorry... - they "fixed" it on Thursday. "refixed" it on Friday and then came out again on Saturday. They charged us several hundred dollars extra for the overtime on the Saturday visit. In total, we had to pay several thousand dollars for this fiasco. When I cried "foul" over the charges I was told that there were 3 different issues and that if I didn't pay, my account would be sent to collection. I withheld payment , told them I was willing to pay a renegotiated rate and wanted to be fair...but felt the billing was way out of proportion given the quality of the work. True to their word, they put my account into collections. At the end of the day, we live over 2 thousand miles away and don't have time for small claims, so we paid. In fairness to this company, I will excerpt the email response I received originally from Bill, the owner (who did not come out on many - if any - of these visits by his workers). "We responded to (3) different issues recently. If there were (1) issue that took us several trips to solve I do believe a credit would be justified. If you look at the individual invoices you will see the 3 different issues in a short time period. when we left each time the a/c was operating. We found air in the system which took a couple visits to work out. Original installer had not installed any auto air vents in system which may be something wise to do in the off season. Also no manual water feeder, needs to be done with garden hose! The air collected after a period of use which took a couple of visits to work it all out. Original visit found burnt wires-we repaired, Last visit we found a refrigerant leak developed and was repaired. All though the total expense was quite large I believe we responded and serviced accordingly to the found issues." Not mentioned in his response is that the a/c was NOT working after each visit...they did NOT check the work. Summary: they took 3-4 months to fix an AC unit, did not take responsibility or warranty their work in any way,did not thoroughly check the work that they did on each visit.. and It took over a half dozen visits for them to find a leaking (and not a new leak) refrigerant line causing the ac to not blow cold air. This could (and should) have been handled in a few visits by a more competent company. read more

I really can't figure out what this company's approach to customer service is, if they've ever actually heard the term before, that is. I called them to install an electric water heater in my home which was done on July 1. I then tried turning on my oil furnace on or about the 15th of September to check on it for the heating season as I wished to use it only as a backup for my new electric heat pump system which is being powered by my solar rooftop panels. The furnace wouldn't turn on and as it was working perfectly before Gelinas installed the water heater I asked them to find out what was wrong. A repairman came and told me that there were some wires that needed to be connected and there were some other things, unspecified, that he did to the furnace burner. It worked fine after he was done and he charged me $165. I paid it but was not happy that I had to pay that much since my furnace had worked fine until the Gelinas people showed up in July. So I called the company and spoke to the service manager who told me that I told the workmen in July to disconnect the furnace while they were installing the water heater so that's why they did it. I obviously never told them to do that as I wanted to use the furnace as a backup system in case I needed it in really cold weather. I mean, why would I tell them to disconnect the furnace if I wanted to use it as a backup. Makes no sense to me but this is what he insisted happened so I said the hell with it and just wrote off the money. At least, I figured, the furnace would now work. However, the first of this month I again turned on the furnace to check that it was fine. It started up and then turned off after about 30 seconds. I called Gelinas and left a message but never heard back from anyone. I called again this past Monday, the 16th and got someone on the phone after a long wait, a woman, who told me that the company would not come to my home any more because I had been placed on some sort of blacklist and the company would not have anything to do with me. She didn't know why, she said, although I didn't believe that, and so I said thanks and hung up. I cannot understand why they did what they did, why their service people lied to their service manager and why they seem so intent on ripping off their customers like this. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with since I bought my house and I can't understand how they stay in business if this is how they treat people. read more

Our boiler/hot water system was not working consistently and after a few cold showers, I knew we had to do something. We received 3 options from Gelinas which were fully explained and we appreciated. The technicians came on time, left our basement cleaner than when they found it, and we now have heat/hot water at all times...even with multiple showers going! These guys are truly outstanding. They are responsive and they really care about the quality of their work. We call them in regularly to inspect and service our Hvac system. In the coldest part of this cold winter they came to our rescue when our hot water system failed. (They were not the firm that installed it.) They responded immediately to our pleas for help. Their technician, Mike Smith, came over and established what the problem was, namely a manufacturer's defect. He documented everything, contacted the manufacturer on our behalf, located a replacement unit, and installed it forthwith. Great work -- and great people to deal with. If you're looking for a company that only cares about overbilling and then collecting their money, these are your guys! Just like the other review here, they just threaten to send your bill to collections if you try and get a penny off the overcharged bill they give you. There are plenty of companies out there that value their customers and provide their service at a fair price...these guys obviously don't believe in that philosophy. read more
