Date of visit: July 24, 2024…read more As part of Comic-Con 2024, Now Or Never Comics was participating in the festivities in two ways - by having a raffle for three CGC-rated books with purchase of the most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles book... and a free pizza party. AUTOMATIC FIVE-STAR RATING! Okay, besides that, Now or Never is one of the few (if not only) comic book stores in Downtown San Diego. It's actually cleaner and more organized than the ones I frequent, but the relatively small size of the building means they don't have as much in stock as I'd like. Case in point, I wanted to show my appreciation for supporting SDCC by getting a couple of graphic novels of Trese and Usagi Yojimbo, but the ones I wanted weren't in stock. But, given how I was surprised to see a comic book store a few blocks away from the Convention Center, I can see myself probably checking it out again whenever I'm in the area.

So this store does not disappoint! The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The only thing they're missing is a store cat (something I've noticed lots of used bookstores seem to have).

Comic Stronghold is a son Gavin, and a Mom Trish and Pop operation. They carry all the current comics, from Patrick Horvath's Beneath the Trees, to all the new Marvel & DC titles. The owner was directing first time readers to All Star Superman which made me happy. Flash forward to this past weekend and went on Free Comic Book day(first Saturday in May) and the owner was working out of his mind to make it an amazing experience for all which warmed my Captain Cold frozen heart. Big discounts and people dressed up! I'm guaranteed to come back now that SoCal Comics has closed which ran one of the best Free Comic Book Days. RIP Uncle Ben & SoCal Comics. The Comics Stronghold is building a back issue presence and have discount bins and bundle packs which I love. I did not think this store would last when it opened, but they have endured and seem like they have regulars! Thank the Beyonder!
