AUTOMATIC FIVE-STAR RATING! Okay, besides that, Now or Never is one of the few (if not only) comic book stores in Downtown San Diego. It's actually cleaner and more organized than the ones I frequent, but the relatively small size of the building means they don't have as much in stock as I'd like. Case in point, I wanted to show my appreciation for supporting SDCC by getting a couple of graphic novels of Trese and Usagi Yojimbo, but the ones I wanted weren't in stock. But, given how I was surprised to see a comic book store a few blocks away from the Convention Center, I can see myself probably checking it out again whenever I'm in the area.

So this store does not disappoint! The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The only thing they're missing is a store cat (something I've noticed lots of used bookstores seem to have).

I always love supporting businesses in the city I was born & raised in. But this morning completely switched my mind on that! Who ever worked 6/10/2026 this morning either didn't get enough sleep or hates his life. I called to ask if a certain variant cover for a new issue was in stock and he gave me the NASTIEST attitude, I was in complete shock. It wasn't what he said it's HOW he said it. As if I was an inconvenience, a customer? Maybe he was overwhelmed since there was 7 customers in the store like he stated but again he could've had way better attitude I mean it is 10AM lively up! I've worked customer service majority of my life and it's #1 priority for a business to thrive and keep customers coming back. Comic Stronghold is a son Gavin, and a Mom Trish and Pop operation. They carry all the current comics, from Patrick Horvath's Beneath the Trees, to all the new Marvel & DC titles. They even have a comfy reading area. Gavin knows his titles and is great with service and offering value to the buyer. For instance, his Ashcans are free and he has set up a table with free posters. I've been having them pull Comics for me for years and at times I have lagged on going in and my stack gets large, but I have been going in at let once or maybe twice in a month. Well the last time I went in to the Mission Valley location they said that my subscription was canceled because I had 7 months of back comics and they said that someone should have called me to inform me, if they called me which they did not, I would not have stopped by the store. They have all sorts of memorabilia from Mickey Mouse to comic book superheroes to Star Wars The Simpsons and the local Mexican clothing designs and T-shirts. They also have dolls and Anime stuff. Prices are fair but expensive for Mexican standards not as expensive as spencers or mall places in the US. It's nice to walk in here and see all the cool different stuff that you will not see anywhere else. Great place to find a gift for someone. Worth stopping by to check out if you have some time before movie or something.
