Sepulveda Animal Hospital - Waiting for Dr Snyder

    Sepulveda Animal Hospital

    (327 reviews)

My dogs love Dr. Snyder and so do I. He is kind, gentle and even gets down on the floor with them…read moreso they aren't frightened. He helped me through the final months of my 14 1/2 year old pup and is now helping me with my new rescue. I trust him implicitly and cannot recommend him or Sepulveda Animal Hospital more highly.

Sepulveda Animal Hospital provides an incredibly hard dilemma for people with pets: on one hand,…read morethe veterinarians working there are extremely knowledgeable, show empathy and understanding for the pet's well-being and fur parent alike, and offer many options for addressing the concerns regarding the prt's condition. On the other hand, they've decided to take away basic services and for the ones that remain, they've decided to charge OUTLANDISH prices that are absurdly nonsensical. My pet has asthma. Needs an inhaler which I pay for out of pocket and its incredibly expensive. This veterinarian clinic DOES NOT SEND PRESCRIPTIONS TO OUTSIDE PHARMACIES. So they only give you 2 refills and when you need more you have to physically drive into the office, pick it up on paper, then physically drive it to your pharmacy to get it filled. In the day and age where almost everything is available in minutes via apps and the internet, this clinic decided to make the client do a ton of unnecessary physical effort and time investment when it could be submitted via fax or even just approved over the phone. Their other option is pay 40% more foe the same rx through their own pharmacy. So they squeeze you for a ton of money or force you into a half day of nonsense driving everywhere and waiting around in person to avoid losing an arm. I wish VCs would stay out of medicine. This sucks.

I primarily go to Modern Animal for routine care and minor concerns. The space is clean and organized. The waiting area is small, but there are two sides so it is possible to keep distance between us and other pets. Our wait time is usually pretty minimal. Tech appointments tend to be very fast. The nurses and vets always ask if they can give my dog treats to make him feel more comfortable, and with my permission they will do so. I really like this about them - I think it really helps my dog feel more comfortable there. They communicate clearly and answer all the questions I come in with. I like the team at this location. They are kind and knowledgeable. I try to see the same doctors if available. It's not as personal as going to 1 specific veterinarian, but it works. Modern Animal as a service overall works really well for me. I like the app, the ease of making appointments and the chat communication. I feel like the membership fee ends up paying for itself if we go in 2-3 times in a year - it also allows us to go in as needed without the stress of additional exam fees. I also like the documentation and the access we have to all of it. The individual services/treatments, which are separate costs from the membership, are more expensive than what I've seen at other places. However, it has been worth the cost for me.

My puppy was attacked by another dog and I came running into MAPV in what I can only describe as…read morecomplete hysterics, thinking she wasn't going to make it. Between rushing to get there (sry to anyone driving on jefferson that morning didn't see ya) and begging my puppy to stay awake, I hadn't called ahead or warned them we were coming but you would have thought they had been expecting us - the receptionist came running out to meet us, already phoning the staff before I had even made it inside. I walked into the lobby to find a fleet of nurses and staff rushing to help. The time between my puppy being attacked and walking into Modern Animal was the worst of my life - seeing these women immediately know exactly what to do was the first sense of relief I had that day. They were completely calm and solid for my puppy when I wasn't, and while they got me and my hysterics under control, they got her bleeding under control. women, amirite. Dr. Parks was unbelievably calm and gentle with me as she explained that while they had stopped the bleeding, the extent of my puppy's injuries meant she needed to go to a hospital and that she already called the emergency vet in Westwood for us, who were waiting for us to get there, and they were staying on the phone with them to make sure they received us. One of the nurses walked us to my car and all but literally buckled my crying ass in - fairly certain that if she didn't have a job to get back to she would have driven us herself bc the concern on her face watching me get behind the wheel that upset was that of a mother concerned for a child. After we transferred over to VCA, it was such a relief to know they were waiting for us and that I didn't have to explain everything again while frantically trying to get my puppy help. Our vet, Dr. Parks, also messaged to check in and continued following up with VCA to see what happened to her patient, which I really appreciated. I went back to thank the staff with a healthy puppy who all came out hugging us and made me cry AGAIN but this time purely out of gratitude for these women. Before this incident, I already loved Modern Animal for the transparent pricing, lovely staff, and clean facilities. This experience took them over the top for me, and I will forever be grateful to the entire team for how they showed up for my puppy when I was completely falling apart. while you should try to get to an emergency vet if your pet is injured like mine was, they were my first stop not just because they're closest but bc i knew the degree of care we'd get from a modern animal - and while i have no way to know for sure, i'm not sure my puppy wouldn't have made it if we hadn't stopped in MAPV - they didn't waste a second in getting my puppy the care she needed and understood that in these situations seconds matter. those of yall complaining about paying a premium for next-level vet care... guess we have different ideas of what our pets are worth forever grateful to dr parks & her team at modern animal playa vista

Galea Yves DVM - My cat's suspected hernia. But Dr Galea told me she's just fat and charged nothing for the visit. So honest and amazing

I can see…read morethat they tried to get different veterinarians to take his place and there are now a handful to choose from. Because I have two older dogs, and one recently had issues, I had the opportunity to try three different ones. Unfortunately, I was not impressed by either. One tried to present herself as a caring, holistically inclined doctor, but she did not properly diagnose the problem. She only tried to sell me Hill's dog food. The other had a bit of an uncaring personality and did not diagnose the problem either. The real gem is the technician. I wish I could remember his name. I miss Dr Galea... he would have taken one look, and would've known what the problem was immediately. That is the value of a fine doctor and moreover... of the French no-bullshit approach, coupled with lots of experience. He was absolutely irreplaceable.

And he's always really nice and treated my babies with love and respect. The bit about honesty: I brought my cat in with a suspected hernia as her belly was hanging really low and it felt tender to the touch. I took her to Dr. Galea and after touching her for a moment, he exclaimed that oh, she's ok. She's just fat. Put her on a more restricted diet and try to only feed her nutritious low carb cat food and don't give her any dry food. I mean, he could have easily asked to do a scan or get further tests and I would have said ok, but he was very upfront and honest and I love him for that. The charge for that visit: $0. He's just amazing!

She claims to advise prior to extraction. Very defensive by nature so every responder is an unnecessary argumentative exchange....everything she told me she would do, all paperwork she sent not highly incongruent and again unprofessional. Tiptoeing walking on eggshells you name it miss use of Authority and the pet suffers as a result. Highly inhumane. What was once a very optimistic sigh of relief for a very nervous rescue could not be further from that situation at this point only found out after working with her. I already paid once for an after visit follow through for information. She should've followed through naturally on her own with. It's very disheartening to attempt to be reprimanded by your vet because of their unprofessionalism and lack of follow through and for me to be pointed out as difficult. All dialogue post initial visit should have been included in the initial visit or she should've stayed to follow through during that time. By no fault of my own, I continued to follow instructions and continue to believe and take her for her word. She talks over you and doesn't let you finish. She doesn't hear what you're saying or whatever you're saying she hears it incorrectly and lashes out at you. Very disappointed. I was very hopeful and very happy at one point. There are many other mobile vets in Los Angeles. Keep looking elsewhere. I'm a very compassionate, patient and kind and absolutely generous client. There is no reason for this behavior from any "professional."

I have always relied on her care and thoughtfulness as I make decisions with my animals. I trust her advice and know that she is coming from a place of contemplation and thoughtfulness. The fact that she is an incredible human being as well is just what makes my commitment to her even stronger! Thank you Dr. May, for being there for me and my beloved animals and for supporting me through transitions, tough decisions and also day to day animal issues -- with such kindness, intelligence and care!
