This fact has helped local supporters note that the NE Ohio/Greater Cleveland area has one of the largest and most comprehensive public library systems in the nation. (Now if only the County could get every denizen to really educate himself -- and create some sort of brain bubble in the region. Just a wish.) This is a review of the Beachwood city branch, a small yet nicely remodeled facility. There are great nonfiction and children's sections; however, the fiction selection is a bit lacking. The Saul Eisen Reading Garden offers a tranquil, secluded reading space. For research projects, one might be better served at the Mayfield and South Euclid city branches (the latter is set in an exquisite old local castle-esque building). All of the branches -- east and west -- afford the opportunity to find a quiet place to get lost in a great piece of literature and/or media. Grade: A

Starbucks gets too rowdy after about 8:30 AM, and as a transplant I was at a loss as to where I should go to study. A friend suggested this branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. I can't vouch for the selection of books or the services they offer, but as a quiet study environment, this place is great! There are plenty of plugs for your computer (yay!) at each work station, so you don't have to bring an extension cord or awkwardly drape anything over your neighbor just for a hookup. My only beef was that the quiet cubbies were along the perimeter of the main room, which meant that it did get a little louder as the day went on. In any case, it beats the 'bucks, and helped me get my morning off to a productive start!

I was delighted to see them again bring back my favorite author to celebrate the release of their new book. I think the staff is going through some pains deciding how to handle flow at author events in the improved covid era. There was a lot of confusion around the formation of lines with no clear instructions given. But again, I hold a lot of empathy for trying to navigate this new world we live in. So please, be patient with the staff if you attend an event here in 2023. The overall point is that author talks are back and it's delightful. The library still has ample parking, is as clean as a whistle, and doing its best to bring us free programming and support our love of reading. I am always so grateful for the breadth of programming CCPL works so hard to put on!

The middle school is right across the street so kids come over after school and wait for their parents to come pick them up. Kids can be loud and abnoxious, talking loudly about alcohol and drugs. *rolls eyes* I know I've been that age before but it's distracting and hard to concentrate on work or reading.. the staff is pleasant and available to help you. We are not from the area and we visited Squires Castle on a busy weekend. The place was packed!…read moreEven though there's what seems like ample parking, it was so full when we arrived that it was a little tough to find a spot. Before we came, we read that the castle is a stone ruin from the late 1800s and thought it would be interesting to explore but there was so much going on while we were there, that proved quite difficult to do. There were multiple people and families doing photo shoots in and around the castle... Like professional photo shoots. They had cameramen and lighting. There were lots of children running around and playing and people picnicking on the green space in front. There were just lots of people everywhere. We even saw a bunch of young people doing a full-on LARPing session and sword fighting just adjacent to the castle near the trees. It was really cute. Although we were just there for a short visit on our way, we did see lots of signs for trails and people walking and even though I didn't want to fight the crowds of people, my husband did go up and go inside one of the rooms in the castle and peek out the window at me. There were also benches and tables, but almost all of them were occupied. Like I said, there was a ton of people the day that we decided to stop but that didn't stop us from having a nice time. I'm glad we had a chance to stop here, but I definitely wish it had been quieter and we had had at least a moment to ourselves. I can see from other people's photos that this can be achieved by visiting at the right time, so if you can, I totally suggest stopping and enjoying this cool relic!
