Cuddy Brothers Transmission

Cuddy Brothers Transmission

CAround late November of 2021 my car broke down. I was driving in a subdivision and ,upon taking a…read moreturn, I heard a (clunk-like) breaking sound, and my car stopped moving forward. It only moved in neutral, reverse, and the lowest gear after that. (This happened while I was working, so you can imagine the disbelief and stress I felt). I got it towed the following day. With the description of the problem, the tow-man said it sounded like the transmission gave out. I did research on transmissions for my car (2009 Chevy Impala). I discovered that people with the same car had experienced similar problems with their transmission. Mind you, I'm 19 years old, and I had absolutely no idea how to find a solution. I spent some time looking online for transmission repair shops in my area. For a few days, I called MULTIPLE shops asking them about what might be wrong and the costs to fix it. I got quotes all the way up to $6000.00, until I found Cuddy Brothers Transmission..... Mind you, my car did not drive; however, they were able to tow my car to their shop for "free."(I believe the towing is free with a related purchase, so ask Todd for details). As I called and explained the situation, he said it needed to be rebuilt. When he brought it in to diagnose, he confirmed everything he said over the phone. What caused my car to stop driving so suddenly, was that one of the three bands had snapped while driving. There were other corroded and worn pieces as well. They replaced all the broken pieces in the transmission. They also cleaned all the parts. Todd is very honest and knowledgeable about what he does. His entire team reflects that. I was astounded and impressed by how well they were able to simplify and explain to be the different parts of the transmission and how/why behind each part. Before I got any work done, I was given an estimate for the final price. It came out to be just under $2800($2747.68) to be exact. That included parts, labor, and sales tax. The interior of the lobby is old-fashioned, but their Bay Area looked well equipped with tools and everything. If you have any questions about warranty, your transmission, or general inquiry, don't hesitate to give them a call to speak to Todd. Todd was kind enough to bring me into the bay and give me a break down of everything in the transmission. He did an excellent job of educating me about it. The only concern I had , at first, was the duration of the rebuild. He said it was a 4-5 day job. However, they started on Tuesday, and they finished around 4:00pm on Friday. The mechanics were very friendly and open to questions. I knew nothing about transmissions before this. Now, I can have actually have a discussion about the parts and how it works. I'm giving five stars because my experience was INCREDIBLE. For all the research I did beforehand, I wish I had found this place first. But, as the saying goes "diamond in the rough", I had to dig through some roughness to find this diamond of Transmission Repair Shop. If you're unknowledgeable about what to do, don't worry. GO HERE and you'll be taken care of. I'm very fortunate to have found this place, and I happily share this information with you.

He told me to take it back to the person who repaired my power steering pump 6 months earlier. Sidenote i didnt take it to my normal car guy bc it was too far away to drive with no power steering. So i took it to a-1 which is like 2 blocks from my house. Carrying on, i take the car in for the leak and they find on file that i had my pump repaired there 6 months before. Then Chris the mechanic on duty convinces me to feel the hose and what he thinks is a cut in it. He is trying to imply that my car guy cut the hose on purpose to get more business. Chris knows my car guy from the past. So nOw I am in all kinds of doubt which is not getting my problem solved at all. My boyfriend tells me he can fix the hose easy to bring it home and we will deal with it. Chris gave me a $200 quote. Needless to say my boyfriend pulls it apart and there is no cut in the hose it was the edge of the tape the hose is wrapped in. And guess what? Just as my regular trustworthy car guy predicted it was a faulty gasket. Now I dunno if it was shady work done 6 months ago when they replaced my power steering pump or if it just went faulty but I dont trust the schemes of this place and I wont take it back until they pass an ethics test.

The owner isn't a mechanic, the mechanic is shady as all get out, and their work is shoddy. Long story short they refuse to concede that their mess up ruined my valve and they will not repair it at their loss or give a refund. Condescending and unbelievably irritating.

I called them up, they told me to drop the car off and gave me a timeline for when they would look at it and contact me back. And, as always, they followed through. They told me what the problem was, what the timeline and estimated price would be, and asked if I wanted to proceed. They contacted me and got my car back in exactly the timeline they provided. I keep coming back here because the expertise is matched by compassion. Don't be put off by the location, the good quality of work they do has been consistent and reliable for me for well over a decade. Their pricing is reasonable and I have never been dissatisfied with their work.

Their promises are empty--don't trust them under any circumstances. My car started shaking while idling, so I brought it to their shop. They quoted me $600 for a throttle body replacement, and I authorized the repair. However, things quickly went downhill from there. They began misrepresenting the condition of their work, claiming they had driven the car and the issue persisted, which required them to keep the car for the weekend. After two days, they finally called to inform me that the timing chain had failed, resulting in catastrophic engine failure and the car won't start. They quoted me $1,800 to fix the timing chain. Frustrated with their dishonesty, I had the car towed. A subsequent diagnosis from the dealership confirmed that the engine is damaged and needs to be replaced.
