Alexei was super communicative, arrived right now time and got to work immediately. We ran into a small issue around the width of the door being about 1/2" too wide and walked through some options. He took his time and even made sure that the doors were more secure than they were previously by adding some longer screws. He made sure he cleaned up everything and checked in multiple times along the way to make sure everything looked good. Super impressed and have hired him for other projects now too!

I really enjoyed talking with him as did my mother-in-law. And then I never heard anything back from him. I figured he was busy so I gave him a couple weeks. A couple weeks turned into over a month because life happens and I recently sent him an email asking him if he was still interested or what happened or if he had anything for me from our meeting I don't know what happened but communication went to nothing and I feel like I was ghosted after our first meeting, which sucks because I was really excited with all the ideas that he had given me for a remodel of my kitchen that is not incredibly user-friendly at the moment.

I assume that this project ultimately wasn't worth his time but this is a business not a dating app. Communication should be a basic requirement and they fell flat here.

They replaced two windows last July (2024). Did a great job. Professional and friendly. The only…read more"issue" was getting the windows from manufacturer (Milgard). It took longer than expected. lifetime was communicative. We had such a good experience we called them to add a window but they didn't seem interested. Did not come out to provide estimate. Said the "engineering" and permitting would be expensive. Instead, we worked with city building inspection/permitting. Wrote our own permit application, drew diagram, and paid the cheap fee of $30. All approved; no issues. Window was not of the quality we could have purchased from lifetime but at least I have a window in what was a previously dark cave of a bathroom! We will try to use them again in future if need arises. Don't confuse this company with Lifetime exteriors (I don't believe it's same company).

The biggest piece of advice I can give if you are thinking of hiring Gavilan, "don't"! Run away! Our experience could hardly have been worse. They will talk a great game of how well they will take care of you all the way up until they get a signed contract. After that, they will act like they are doing you a favor just taking the job. We were even urged to display appreciation for the completion of tasks which were well within a General Contractor's purview. Despite all the talk about having employees, this is a one-man shop, which farms everything out to sub-contractors. They will promise responsible and thorough oversight with a dedicated Project Manager , but you will only ever see their sub-contractors on-site. And the sub-contractors are often confused regarding their own scope within a project. Don't expect much "due diligence" from this company. Gavilan hired unlicensed contractors, which put our project in jeopardy with the city. Communication is terrible. Lack of expertise in the industry is apparent. Don't expect valuable project updates, just many many calls asking for money. And, don't expect any project discussions be had over e-mail. The only response to e-mails will come via a call, where they will use the cover of no written documentation to berate, make threats to stop everything and, that's right, demand more money. Gavilan is not interested in the final product, just each of the paychecks until they get the final one. Due to issues with the contract, we got to see that Gavilan expected a 42% gross profit margin after all subcontractors and materials were paid! This would be the cost for their "expertise" and project management. Oh, and one of the refrains we would constantly hear was, "When this project is finished, I am going to take you out to a nice restaurant!" Yeah, that is exactly what I would want to do after getting fleeced... eat and drink with the fleecer. You would be better off being your own General Contractor if you are thinking of hiring Gavilan. We spent more time covering for Gavilan's incompetencies and borderline fraudulent practices than we ever saved by handing our project over to them and are much poorer for the experience. Take my advice, do your homework before signing a contract with any contractor. Don't just take their references into consideration, check with the CCB, and building department. Check the permits the contractor has pulled and see if you can get in touch with the clients for a real reference on the work performed. read more

Tim walked me through the entire process -- from drawing up plans to dealing with the byzantine city inspection process. Tim is a true craftsman with an eye for the big picture but with the talent to execute the minutiae perfectly. He was very responsive and is a wonderful communicator: he explained thoroughly every step of the remodel and informed me of my choices throughout. On a more personal note, Tim was at my house for about 40 hours a week. I couldn't imagine a contractor I would feel more comfortable with in my space. I called Joe Petrina, on the recommendation of a neighbor, a month before I was scheduled to begin a huge kitchen remodel with another contractor. The start date was scheduled for September 13th. Joe came by to meet me, assessed the scope of the job, and assured me that he could not only start the job on the originally scheduled date, by then less than four weeks out, but that he could complete it sooner than the tentative end of the year date the other contractor gave me. Joe met with my designer, who he had never worked with, hooked me up with his amazing cabinet maker, and started the job on September 13th. Through every stage of the job, Joe was there to answer questions and offer advice and suggestions when required. He was also very conscious of my budget, and offered sensible options when problems arose that required additional expense. Not only did the job get done the week of Thanksgiving, it was slightly under budget..and the results are simply gorgeous. No one comes into my home who doesn't comment on my spectacular kitchen.
