Determined to make the most of the first sunny hot and dry day in England for, ooh, aeons, I took…read moremy 17 month old daughter to Godstone Farm for a classic middle-class day out. Godstone Farm is, well, a farm containing lots of animals, some of which you can pet, or even climb into their pen. The place is crawling with children (visiting, not captive inhabitants) so I wouldn't recommend coming here if you didn't have a child in tow. It's pretty much obviously set up as something fun, yet educational (in an inoffensive way). The first animals you'll come across are the goats, since you have to pass under the 'Goat crossing' to get to the main part of the farm. Not far from them are a couple of bored looking llamas. Then you'll get to the action, where there are some (huge) rabbits. You can climb into the cage and pet the rabbits, if so inclined. There's also plenty of sheep, cows, goats and pigs to chat to and stroke, if you're so inclined. Apart from the animals, there's a huge children's play area, which also contains a few picnic tables. There's also a play area for the younger children (like my daughter), which is less rough and tumble. Hygiene's well taken care of, with plenty of hand-washing facilities. Changing nappies is easy enough, as the whole place is set up to be parent and child-friendly, as you can imagine. There's a tea shop selling refreshments, so you don't even need to bring your own picnic, if you're feeling lazy. Tip: get here early (the place opens at 10am) at the weekend, as the farm quickly gets rammed by lunchtime.

I love this place! I came here when I was little so I remember the place being much bigger!…read more We paid 30 odd pounds to get in for three adults and one child which is quite pricey but just think about all of the cute fluffy things you will see. The farm allows kids and big kids to see rabbits, chipmunks, horses, llamas, donkeys, pigs, birds, Guinea pigs, goats and much more; all of your typical farmyard animals. If you are the bring your own sandwiches type you may be pleasantly surprised with the cafe. They do a great deal on kids meals. For £4 you can choose from 5 items; carton of juice/water, mini cheese sandwiches, crisps, fruit in syrup, raisins, jelly and penguin bars. I have to admit I bought the kiddies meal too :p Make sure you visit the holding building. Kids can hold chicks and bunnies which is a great experience for them. This is a great day out for all of the family, big or small and you're bound to enjoy yourself!

I've only used the gym and the pool so my review is specific only to those facilities…read more The pool is a little chilly, as others have said, however it isn't a spa pool, it's a swimming pool, so it's going to be chilly and the point is that you swim to warm up. The pool area and changing rooms are broadly clean, with enough locker space. The gym is pretty well equipped, but at its busy times you will struggle to find usable machines and equipment. The users aren't very good at replacing equipment so you can spend a while looking around for certain weights. And the rules regarding not taking in coats and bags aren't enforced, so finding mat space, for example, can become difficult and you end up having to shove some strangers bag to the side because you can't find the owner. Without wanting to sound like I'm young-person-bashing, the after school groups seem to use the gym more as a hang-out, and people of all ages don't seem to have developed the gym etiquette you find in other places regarding being sat on equipment looking at your phone for prolonged periods, denying the equipment to others. The student groups also tend to leave a lot of their belongings scattered in the changing rooms instead of using the lockers which are plentiful. The staff are very friendly, but it would be preferable if they enforced some of the rules & policies. And as a minor criticism I'd prefer lockers you can padlock instead of needing a £1 coin. Overall, it's fine if you're not a core-hours user - it would definitely be better if the policies were enforced, but if you're someone trying to do some exercise after work, particularly in term-time, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

I have been a member of the centre for more years than I care to mention. The facilities are great…read moreand they have a wide range of activities for all ages and abilities. My biggest complaint would be the swimming pool changing rooms which are way too hot. Also there is occassionally a problem with the heating of the learner pool, but when you complain you get told that it is within regulations. When childrens lips are going blue in the lessons, I would say it is too cold despite what the regulations say.
