Determined to make the most of the first sunny hot and dry day in England for, ooh, aeons, I took my 17 month old daughter to Godstone Farm for a classic middle-class day out.
Godstone Farm is, well, a farm containing lots of animals, some of which you can pet, or even climb into their pen. The place is crawling with children (visiting, not captive inhabitants) so I wouldn't recommend coming here if you didn't have a child in tow. It's pretty much obviously set up as something fun, yet educational (in an inoffensive way).
The first animals you'll come across are the goats, since you have to pass under the 'Goat crossing' to get to the main part of the farm. Not far from them are a couple of bored looking llamas. Then you'll get to the action, where there are some (huge) rabbits. You can climb into the cage and pet the rabbits, if so inclined. There's also plenty of sheep, cows, goats and pigs to chat to and stroke, if you're so inclined.
Apart from the animals, there's a huge children's play area, which also contains a few picnic tables. There's also a play area for the younger children (like my daughter), which is less rough and tumble.
Hygiene's well taken care of, with plenty of hand-washing facilities. Changing nappies is easy enough, as the whole place is set up to be parent and child-friendly, as you can imagine. There's a tea shop selling refreshments, so you don't even need to bring your own picnic, if you're feeling lazy.
Tip: get here early (the place opens at 10am) at the weekend, as the farm quickly gets rammed by lunchtime. read more
