Here's why: Despite a fair number of people populating the space on a Sunday, its Giant Robot food court was closed. So, no beers and snacks should you visit on the seventh day of the week and have a rumble in your tummy which you hoped to satisfy amongst the greenery. The landscape seemed in need of a gardener on my visit in early February 2019. I was appreciative of the foliage that was there surviving beautifully in winter. But it looked as if someone had been dumping bags of mulch literally on top of the plants so some were awkwardly buried in wood chips and dirt. Furthermore, other plants were strange matted tangles of offgrowths and dead leaves which marred the landscape. Yelper Zara L. has done a great job describing the history and thematics of the place. But for me a garden that subscribes to the East/West binarizing tendencies of the East India Company without also questioning that worldview is a bit strange in modern London. Surely we know there's more to the world than that? Of course it's a small garden and it would be harder to incorporate all the variations of plants found in the gradations of tropical, subtropical, and temporate forests worldwide. But East/West seems a little simplistic, putting rosy glasses on a legacy of exploitation and colonialism.

If you make the short walk to the top, the view really is quite incredible. Very clean and worth the walk through if you're close!

Not many people know that London has its very own Central Park. It's out in the far east in East…read moreHam and it's fantastic. It's a huge, beautiful space. There are 3 tennis courts, a bowling club/green, formal gardens, a playground, open green space for ball games or picnics or lying in the sunshine, sculptures inspired by the Olympics and a trail about the day the Darleks visited - apparently it was a fantastic day! There are also markings around the path going round the edge of the park so you know how far you're running. The sun was out today and the park was busy but there is plenty of space for everyone. If you walk round the park you'll notice old plaques telling you what the trees are, others with bits of history about the park, such as when 1,000 people watched a windmill burn down in the park and the three years that a miniature railway ran round the park. There are toilets in the middle of the park near the playground and there was an ice cream van there today. The park is beautiful with so many different kinds of trees. At the moment there are lots of different blossoms out so the trees are an array of whites and pinks and look gorgeous.

This is a brilliant local park. There's a field for sports, a playground suitable for small and…read moreolder children, there's a zipwire (my favourite thing when I get to go when there aren't any kids around!), a paddling pool, table tennis table and a fitness circuit round the outside. Even on a sunny day it's never too busy. The park is well kept, the paddling pool is clean and there are some pretty flowers and trees. It's such a lovely spot and used by different generations of locals.
