A Beautiful piece of South London, and right at it's back, to the south Blackheath. There is always something happening in the park, either informal and impromptu or organised to a t. Remember to smile for all the film crews and tourists. And do smile at the pups running around,

I see London!

Large open space, between the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory. On a sunny day (and today was such a rarity), expect to see a friendly football match or people tossing around a frisbee, and some folks sunning or picnicing. Dogs seem to be allowed, or at least aren't discouraged. Green grass and big green trees, with occasional patrols from community service officers to keep everything friendly. Interesting tidbit. Greenwich Park is the site of one of the first international terrorism incidents. A French anarchist was killed by a bomb he was carrying in 1894. No one knows why he had decided to target the Observatory. You can't beat the views of the Docklands area and if it's a clear day, all the way to the City.

I loved this place!! I could spend all day here!! I took the ferry from Westminster to Greenwich Village, and it's about 40 min to am hour long, which wasn't bad plus I got to enjoy the calm city breeze and sightsee London's modern buildings and famous landmarks, such as the tower bridge and shard! Upon arriving at Greenwich village, there are many museums and historical spots, such as the cutty sark and the naval college! Of course, I went to the royal observatory and stood on the prime meridian line!! Gotta snap that pic and document it! Besides all the marine and historic museums, planetarium, lively streets, aromatic and ethic food markets, there was the hill on top of the village! This hill overlooks the center city of London giving the viewers a panoramic view and also provides many nature lovers, tourists, and locals a comfortable and mind-soothing spot to relax.

I am so jealous of anyone who lives near Greenwich Park. I was quite smug, having Bush and Richmond Park within a stones throw of me. But anyone who has Greenwich Park near them not only has a vast, well kept expanse of greenery near them, but they get all the historic buildings that are housed within them. I could have walked around here all day. When I was here it was a cold winters afternoon, so it felt like I had the park to myself, but I remember coming here on a summers day and it felt like every person in South East London was out having a party in the park. I came here to visit the Greenwich Observatory. Just opposite the building is a small stand selling organic sausages in rolls, buns or with mash. I can't tell you what a treat that was on a icy afternoon. Our stand in Bushy Park just sells cups of tea!

Red Bull Air Plane that you can barely see. :( Aug 08

On the way to the Greenwich Observatory I was walking through the park and I heard this LOUD buzzing sound and out of no where came this fast flying plane that flipped around from side to side then buzzed off. It was the Red Bull Air Race going on down the way. So I stood there and watched these planes making moves that I didn't think was possible. I took a few photos http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz_photos/najuswxxR8q3v0wvlpq_PA?select=ksNoPk4QgPnoOe1XNqTJFQ but I was never quick enough to get a good photo....man are they fast.

Crossrail Roof Garden gets 4 stars in my book for effort and novelty, but for actual park…read moreexperience I might give it only 3. Here's why: Despite a fair number of people populating the space on a Sunday, its Giant Robot food court was closed. So, no beers and snacks should you visit on the seventh day of the week and have a rumble in your tummy which you hoped to satisfy amongst the greenery. The landscape seemed in need of a gardener on my visit in early February 2019. I was appreciative of the foliage that was there surviving beautifully in winter. But it looked as if someone had been dumping bags of mulch literally on top of the plants so some were awkwardly buried in wood chips and dirt. Furthermore, other plants were strange matted tangles of offgrowths and dead leaves which marred the landscape. Yelper Zara L. has done a great job describing the history and thematics of the place. But for me a garden that subscribes to the East/West binarizing tendencies of the East India Company without also questioning that worldview is a bit strange in modern London. Surely we know there's more to the world than that? Of course it's a small garden and it would be harder to incorporate all the variations of plants found in the gradations of tropical, subtropical, and temporate forests worldwide. But East/West seems a little simplistic, putting rosy glasses on a legacy of exploitation and colonialism.
