Terrible service today. I arrived when they opened at 7 am to have front struts replaced. I told the service rep that I would wait at the shop while the work was done, knowing it would be several hours for the job to be completed. After patiently waiting for 6 hours, I went to the front desk to inquire. At that time, I noticed my car was still parked in the exact same spot as when I arrived. The service rep asked about the status and came back to tell me that it would be done today, within the next 2 - 3 hours but they hadn't started yet. I have been doing business with Columbia Gateway since 1995 and have been very satisfied with how they conduct business. Today was the worst customer service I have encountered in over 20 years. The counter personnel today was dismissive, and couldn't care less about my concerns. They wanted to charge me $81 for a conventional oil change on a 2002 4 cylinder Saturn Vue. They said that the conventional 10W-40 oil was a special order, thats when my BS alarm went off. After talking to the site manager he took $11 off the bill, thank you. Shannon the regular counter man wasn't there today, who has always treated me great with very professional and good customer service. I recommend the current manger have Shannon train the Yahoo's at the counter today on how to provide good customer service or fire them and hire people that don't hate their job. Absolutely terrible service. My fiancé brought her car in to check the brakes. After dropping the car off they never called to tell her what was going on with the car. No estimate before doing work. Nothing. When she called they said the car was almost done even though she didn't ok any work. They told her she needed all 4 brakes, rotors and that a caliper was frozen. He estimated the cost at $989. When she questioned the prices the guy told her he didn't know how much things were and that the total was $989. She asked to speak with someone else and the next guy said the caliper wasn't frozen and that the cost was $646+ tax and that also she needed all 4 ball joints replaced as it was a safety hazard. Due to the terrible service I told her to hold off on the ball joints until we got a second opinion. I took her car to the co-op this morning and he confirmed that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the ball joints and, in fact, there are only 2 and not 4 like gateway said needed to be replaced. This place is filled with rip off artists and see only trying to charge you for repairs that they will not do. Scumbags. read more

Amazing - I would go out of my way to come back here... never thought I'd say that about a tire center. It was clean, well staffed, very friendly, spacious inside with snacks and a big puzzle while you wait. Quick turnaround and a stellar team they have here. Go somewhere else. I had a flat tire on my work truck. They replaced the tire. I asked them what was wrong with the tire and they said they didn't check it, just changed the tire. I got the oil changed a couple weeks later. Then my rear tires were low when carrying a heavy load, it was very dangerous and could have easily caused an accident. They checked it out and found that the valve caps were leaking. I asked them if they check the tire pressure during oil changes, they said yes but they don't record it. I said shouldn't they have found the low pressure when doing the oil change and was told "I don't know, I don't work back there." So I paid over $400 to get a new tire when I just had a leaking valve cap and I had a dangerous situation because they didn't check my tire pressure. Don't go here, you're paying a premium for terrible service. read more

My check engine light came on so I took it to them to find the problem, just like their website shows. The next morning I called to let them know my concern with the light and also asked them to change my oil and rotate the tires. He assured me that all would be taken care of. 9 hours later when I went to pick up my car, they said the oil and tires were done but, they haven't had a mechanic in over 9 months so the light issue was never addressed. I asked why no one mentioned that 9 hours ago when I called, he said I agree they should have told you. 9 hours for an oil change. Never again. read more

Had a minor immediate repair need on my way to Nashville. Front end began to vibrate and squeal. Well, pulled into Columbia, TN and got directed by a competitor to Gateway. Just walking in the door, I knew it was gonna be a good experience. Greeted by a pleasant staff member who listened to my issue. The establishment is clean, neat and maintained. They quickly got me on the hoist, identified the wheel bearing as the culprit. A relatively quick fix. I have a warranty on the part, so they removed it, drove me to Auto Zone to make the parts swap, and brought me and the part back. 30 Minutes later I was on my way for a very fair repair price considering the speed and courtesy. Great service. I had a flat tire on the north side of town and had a friend to change it. I knew I couldn't drive far on spare but had to go to my Dad's. I left the tire to see if it was even repairable. The young man that assisted me was helpful in working out my schedule. I left tire, went to my Dad's,and returned. The tire was repairable.
