After a 2 year wait in my home province with an additional 18 month delay anticipated, I sent an email inquiry to Gateway Surgery Center in Calgary, AB in May 2024 regarding hip replacement surgery. Within 4 weeks I had a surgery date scheduled (in August 2024), had a zoom meeting with my assigned surgeon, had a phone consultation with an anesthesiologist and had all my pre-op X-rays and labs done. The process could not have gone more smoothly. The team at Gateway is professional, knowledgeable, competent, organized and compassionate. The entire team was first class with special thanks to Dr. Jim and my surgical coordinator Taylor. I'm one week post surgery and I'm already able to manoeuvre my home, including stairs, and go for short walks almost completely pain free. Absolutely the best decision I ever made. Worst experience for hospital . I was completely taken aback when we got a call early this morning to see if we could come in early because we were the only ones for surgery today. So the doc could get an earlier tee time I suspect. Doctor rude and not very professional treated us like a number.We left after finding out wanted to use general anesthesia without any thing known during console. Never, have I ever evoked the Lord's name in a review, but with God as my witness this is a human chop shop! They herd you in and out like cattle. You are treated more like a commodity than a person. My physician, Dr. Rhodes, never seemed to put on a blue procedure gown. He kept on his well pressed plaid shirt. And as the iv liquid burned my veins horribly I cried in pain, and one of the nurses shushed me with a blue gloved finger over my mouth. I understand the business model in which they want you "in" and "out". But there is a human being in this work and the humanity seems stripped when the process is [this] rushed. I see others with five star reviews... So I can't help but ask what is different about me? Why didn't I deserve five-star treatment? They process you and rush you out the door. In my case long before I was fully coherent. After my procedure they were rushing me to get up (a nurse told me to go home) getting dressed, my legs literally crumpled under me. I hit the floor and hard! My husband had to call staff to help collect me off the floor. They get 1.5 stars because the place seemed clean, and the intake staff and procedure were both positive and efficient. read more

We checked into Gateway Surgery Center for my sisters surgery on her arm and my how things have changed! In the past it was a clean, friendly, welcoming place! Well someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed because at 8am this location was unkept and the staff seemed as if they had a weekend hangover! No smiles, no coffee, just ushering patients in and out! They seemed to have an attitude because my sister didn't answer the pager she was given; once the nurse who came to find her looked at the pager she realized that she had a different pager number than the one they had written down for her! I'm a little disappointed because Gateway Surgery Center is usually better than this! The waiting area is usually cozy and well maintained. There are paintings all around and televisions to occupy you while you wait! Upon checking out you're assigned a nurse to bring you to your car, my sisters nurse was Anna and she was very sweet! She got her comfortably seated in the car, gave a few last minute instructions and even put her seatbelt on! read more

My son got tubes put in his ears yesterday and yes they say it's quick but not 5 mins quick. They took him out the room and by the time I got to the conference room he was done ain't no way they put him to sleep and put them in that quick and when we got home I noticed he had blood on his fingers and one of his ears and that's not sitting right with me because if he was put to sleep how he get blood on his fingers and I know my child so na 1 star they get from me read more

My Mom has a colonoscopy here done by Dr Myer. Everyone from checkout to leaving post surgery was wonderful. Beyond exceptional service. What caring, considerate and compassionate staff. Adrienne is who brought us back. I was allowed to be with my Mom right up until it was time for the procedure. Adrienne explained everything. She did a wonderful job of putting us at ease. She was just so darn sweet and considerate. She thought of things before my Mom even had a chance to say anything. Other shout outs: Melissa, rock star with the IV. It's super hard to get a good vein on my Mom. Way to go Melissa, Candy was another one making us feel right at home, Jennifer and Vanessa helped post surgery and I know I keep saying this but they were so sweet and gentle. Dr Myer has awesome bedside manners. He explained everything in layman's terms and didn't stand over us while he did it. He actually sat down beside me and looked directly at me. EVERYONE WAS AWESOME! If you HAVE to get a colonoscopy, come here!!!! read more

not very happy with them, have a 18 month old with two terrible ear infections. needing the infection cleaned out and tubes put it as well as his adanoids (excuse me for the spelling) removed. arrived here at gateway surgery cented at 6:30am 05/01/2024. appointment was set for 6:45am we got back in the room at about 7:40 sat and waited was told 30 minutes or so till he would be taken back and it is now 9:30 am. we have a 18 month old that cannot eat or drink and hasn't since last night at 8 pm. I'm not very happy with the wait or experience so far, they haven't stopped in to give us an update or tell us what's going on. im very unhappy with the service so far and I'm truly praying they do good once they get him back for surgery. my son has been dealing with this for 2 and a half months and he has tried every single antibiotic they have so he has to have this surgery or else I would take my happy ass home and feed my child and rescedule with a different location. if you have a smaller child do not expect to have faster servic. read more

I recently had to get my tonsils removed. The staff here is incredible, they were on time, professional, and very attentive. Right up to surgery time they were making sure I was comfortable and even making me laugh right before they put me to sleep. After I woke up from surgery, they made sure everything was ok, and gave me detailed instructions before sending me on my way. I even received a follow up phone call a couple of days later to make sure I was doing well. I really love this place, nothing better than people that enjoy their jobs to make your not so fortunate situation, a better experience. Thanks everyone! Horrible. I need a surgery and when I called to find out the fees(my doctor gave me the codes so I could verify) they said they can't give me the fees until I schedule the surgery I can't have the surgery if I can't afford to pay for it. She was a rude B to say the least!!!! read more

Had an appointment for a pre-op EKG at Gateway Lab. Upon arrival was told that I had no order for the EKG. Returned home and called the Gateway pre-op nurse who had made my appointment with the lab. She then called the lab tech to figure out what happened. The lab tech lied, saying that I had never been there. Totally irresponsible and incompetent. Canceled my surgery with Gateway and asked to be rescheduled at NorthEast. read more

The facility and most of the people working there were top notch. My problem is with their billing/insurance folks requesting money that was not due. I had three different women tell me three different things. One said no deductible due, one said no deductible due if you owe more then the doctor will have them bill you and put a note on my file stating thus. third girl said no you owe 295.00 right this minute and took the note off the file and threw it away. So today I looked at my Humana Medicare claims, and also spoke to Medicare. Doctor Sara Hawes was paid in full by Humana for the bill she sent. At no point was an additional 295.00 added to the bill. I kept arguing with the insurance girls, but they would not listen. Humana Gold for Medicare does not charge nor allow any additional charges or fees for any kind of colonoscopy. So now I have to take my time, and try to get these people once again to understand and to refund my money immediately. I paid directly to Gateway, they owe me the refund...if they have an issue with a doctor charging more, then that's between them. Human has advised me to seek full refund and if any issue to contact the state insurance overseers. You know 295.00 is a lot of money to someone on Social Security, and I had to make a lot adjustments on my last two monthy budgets, you know like reduced driving (gas so high) less food etc. read more

She just had a colonoscopy and was extremely impressed with the care she received from Dr. Myers and his staff, who were very professional, knowledgeable and pleasant. A few days after her procedure both the nurse and Dr. Myers called to check on her progress and to answer any questions she might have. We have had to come here a few times between my husband and I. Everyone is so helpful and caring. From the time we walk in until the time we leave, every employee is knowledgeable and makes sure we are very comfortable. If we have to have procedures done, this is the place we ask for first. My toddler was recently in here for tympanostomy tubes. Our amazing ENT doctor uses Gateway Surgical center for his procedures. We were in there super early in the morning and the nurses at Gateway were very caring and nurturing to my son. They explained everything thoroughly and even gave him a little teddy bear to keep him calm. After the quick surgery and he was taken to the recovery room- I walked around the corner after speaking to the ENT doctor about the procedure- and my son was crying from pain and a nurse was holding him rocking him to help him feel better. This was the best thing I have ever seen and I am so appreciative of her doing this until I got back there to hold him. I am glad he wasn't just laying there crying and that someone took time out of their busy schedule to hold him. If any other outpatient procedure is needed for me and/or my family- we will always schedule schedule here at Gateway! read more

Had an MRI done here years ago. I was nervous but the staff was super sweet and friendly and helped me feel calm and walked me through everything with a great bedside manner. I've used the pharmacy here and the ladies are all so sweet. read more

This review is in two parts. My wife had to have a surgery done here and they made it very clear that they were not going to touch her until my entire deductable was paid in full in which they gave me an amount. Being several thousand dollars I had to open a line of credit. My wifes surgery was in September and they called me about a month later and demanded that we owed $600.00 more and they needed immediate payment. As it turns out they overcharged me and actually owed me a refund. Well it is now mid January and I have yet to see a nickel of that refund. I was told that it takes a few weeks from the first time I called to at least a month the next time I called and it has been almost 4 months since the surgery. I still have not seen any money toawrds my refund and I owe other medical providers since they over charged me. They had to have their money right at that moment but when they owed us money it takes months. The surgeon who completed the surgery was not very helpful after the release which resulted in follow up trips to the ER to which we owed even more money for with full insurance. Not a very good experience and if possible I would avoid this place if at all possible. read more
