My insurance changed this year and you have to earn points to be able to not pay a higher rate. One way to do that is to get your annual physical. I made an appointment with Dr. Bastajian at the Concord, NC location of Ardsley Internal Medicine to have my physical. I checked in that day.. to have my physical. I was called back and the nurse asked why I was there. I told her.. to have my physical. She asked, "Are you in any pain?" I said, "I'm still having my migraine if that counts." (I was just there a week or two earlier for my chronic migraine). She said ok and left.
Doctor comes in, asks standard questions. Feels around on neck, stomach, "Say ah", all that. Says she wants me to try and new medicine for my migraines and that she wants to check my hormones. Ok, so far so good.
She leaves, nurse comes back in. She says, "She wants to see you again in a few weeks. Do you want to do your physical then?" I am opened mouth at this point. I ask, "What was that if not my physical, what do you mean?"
She says, "The doctor decided to make this about your migraine and not do a physical."
I WAS NEVER ASKED IF THIS WAS OK. I get a free physical every year. I went for a physical. Now I have HUNDREDS of dollars to pay for an exam I didn't ask for. I WAS JUST THERE FOR MY MIGRAINE! I needed a physical! I asked for a physical.
If you went to a restaurant or to an auto repair place and asked them for one item and received another because they "decided" to give you something different, would that be ok?
Would you be ok paying hundreds of dollars for something YOU DID NOT ORDER?
Why am I expected to?
Not only am I expected to pay for a service not asked for, but I STILL haven't gotten my physical. So this was a complete waste of a lot of time and a waste of a whole lot of money.
This is not ok.
P.S. I also still have my migraine. :/ read more
