RACIST STAFF. Lied and accused me of having multiple people in and out of my room when I wasn't even there for the entire day. Refused to let me renew my room. I came here for a few days because of a problem with my apartment, now I'm being removed for absolutely no reason. I asked them to show me the cameras of where they saw someone coming into my room and they refused... I will be filing a lawsuit against them for bias remarks. The manager 'Kevin Hoffman' referred to me as 'you people,' as in you black people, always feel as if its a race issue... apparently it is. I'm totally disgusted by the treatment I received as well as hurt. I'm a single mother, as well as 3 months pregnant going through a hard time and they did nothing, but make it worse. We checked in about an hour ago and I love this place already. This is a top spot to stay if you're looking for a CLEAN and friendly place. Monica at the front desk is awesome! Personable, smiling and ready to help. The hotel manager is very hospitable, courteous and professional. This is an inn, but it's more clean than some 5-stars we visited. The room is immaculate. Fresh and clean air upon walking into the room. Linen, towels, bathroom/shower look new. AND we were upgraded at no additional cost! This is our home away from home for the weekend and I highly recommend Gateway Inn! You will not be disappointed if you book here. Fresh Tea and coffee, free continental breakfast in the mornings. Booked through hotel tonight, apparently the rooms they give to those booking through hotel tonight will not have wifi (at least not a usable one) although it is listed as having wifi. They may try to claim that was the particular room I was in, but its obvious they give those rooms for the cheaper price. You get what you pay for I guess, but man that sucks as I had important work to do, but was screwed. smh im definitely avoiding this place if I can't even have working wifi read more

I love the Gateway Inn! I've stayed here in numerous occasions, every time I visit Long Island. Accommodations on the Island are extremely expensive, but the Gateway is very reasonably priced. The customer service at the Gateway is top-notch. For example, when I visited recently, I requested a refrigerator from the front desk and it arrived in my room within a minute. The rooms are spacious in the main building and have all of the necessities. It's also very clean. A continental breakfast is included. I can't think of a single negative thing to say about the Gateway. It has character and awesome customer service. I'll go back each time I visit my relatives in Long Island. read more

When we arrived at Gateway Inn, I took out my paperwork and realized that I mistakingly booked the hotel for the day I booked it (11/26) rather than the date I wanted it (11/28). The front desk insisted that I pay for an additional night. Now I immediately acknowledged that it was my mistake and that I know that there is a 24 hour cancellation policy. I explained that I have Stage 4 Cancer and that the chemo has made me confused at times. We obviously showed up another night vs. not showing at all, so the mistake was self-evident. I was told that the manager would be in the following morning. The clerk did tell me that the hotel was not booked the night of 11/26, so I know that they did not miss out on booking another room. The next morning I spoke with another front desk person. I again explained the situation and asked for the manager. He said that he should be in shortly and to sit and wait. After 25 minutes, I approached the front desk again and politely asked if he knew when the manager would be in. He told me VERY abrutly and rudely that he could not read his mind and I should sit down and be patient. I then saw that he made a phone call, and I asked him if that was the manager on the line, because I heard him discussing my issue. He told me no. He then hung up and said that the manager said that "We can't pay for your mistakes." I also then called a couple of days later and asked to speak to the General Manager, Kevin Hoffman. He has still not returned my call. I could have put up with the dirty carpet in the lobby, the uncomfortable mattress, and dirt on the bathroom floor for the convenience, but I will never forgot the lack of compassion and rudeness. Stayed here April 4 to the 10, This is your basic room for the night. Cheaper than the Ramada Inn down the road a bit. The beds were really comfortable, clean rooms and showers amazingly hot. I had room 106 and had a quiet peaceful night every night for a week. There are no hair dryers, irons, refrigerators or room safes, but I will stay here again.It is centrally located for my purposes and by the middle of the week, I had visited the 7-11 next door three or four times. The coffee is on all day in the office and breakfast is decent. I talked to the woman at the desk and she said she owned the place over40 years. Best kept secret on the south shore? Ultra clean, comfortable beds, quiet, very reasonable price, good location. No pool or spa, but free continental breakfast. WiFi was top notch. Employess were helpful. A good place to lay your head when visiting Long Island. read more

I was a long stay due to Hurricane Sandy and I must say it was a nightmare. Once things went missing from my room and I informed housekeeping my troubles began. I was harassed and constantly asked to change rooms on short notice. My car was damaged by a snow plow while it sat in the hotel parking lot to which the plow driver denied. The final blow was when Sharon from housekeeping and the hotel manager broke into my room while I was sleeping. I promptly called the police and made a report. I currently have a law suit pending against the hotel. read more

REALLY, REALLY wish I could give a negative star here. I made a reservation, and was told check in was 3 pm. I arrived at 3:15 and the overly RUDE clerk, a thin lady of Indian descent, I believe..told me "We only have 1 room left, no internet". Well, I said no problem, checked in and was given a key card. Upon entering the room, I opened the curtain, and there was a brick wall. Not across the street, not 20 feet away, RIGHT OUTSIDE THE WINDOW ! Then I checked the bathroom, and it was nasty, filthy, dirty...ok...ok...time to check the bed. Filthy would be a compliment. There were assorted hairs, a fruit fly, assorted dark spots which appeared to be bed bugs, and a clump of hair, which appeared it had been yanked out of someone's head. I went back to the mean clerk and told her. She said "I believe you, I dont want to deal with this, I'll get a manager". Then I waited....and waited..no manager. I asked her again and she just smirked and, swear to GOD, she says "Well, I guess this is where we are", whatever the F that meant. Told her to have manager meet me in room. Another 15 minutes, no manager, so I go back, wait another 5 minutes, and manager FINALLY comes out. An older Indian guy, who I tell "Let me show you the nasty room", to which he says "I dont have to see it, I believe you". Then, after I was told I had LAST ROOM AVAILABLE, He asks if I would "like to look at another room"....um, NO...I ask for refund, and mean, nasty clerk lady says "Never charged you, you got your refund. I've stayed in some sketchy places, but this is an all time LOW. Please, Please, sleep in your car, go to a city mission.....ANYWHERE but here. HORRIBLE PLACE, with HORRIBLE people, Oh, and people yelling iut windows, and it seems to be a brothel of sorts !! read more

We had guests arriving from California and Australia for a wedding, on a very busy weekend apparently. Although dated, the Gateway worked out wonderfully. They accommodated our many gueThe rooms were clean and the linens fresh. The staff, and especially the manager Kevin, were very accommodating ~even informing us of the bar down the street at 12am! I enjoyed my stay at the Merrick Inn. It is a overpriced for its age, but it is kept up pretty well. The front desk staff were courteous and efficient. It is a $5.00 cab ride to the LIRR station or Merrick City Center where there are plenty of shops, a movies theater, and plenty of places to eat. It is also walking distance to the area to save you the $5.00 cab fare and will take you 15-20 minutes. The Continental Breakfast was good...and free.Now, just a couple of negatives.... I was in Room 502. There was a definitive draft around most of the door so that cold air poured into the room. There was really not a draft...it was a "breeze" at times. In addition, do not bother trying to speak to the maids. I stayed at this hotel three nights and all three times I tried to communicate with the maids. Of the two each day, one spoke no English at all. She looked bewildered and went to get the other maid working with her to understand what I needed to relay to her. The other maid barely spoke English as well. But, that was not the negative point. That was just an aside. The negative point was the fact that each and every morning the maids push the cart back and forth and back and forth by your room and the wheels on the concrete floor outside is loud enough to wake you...and it will. I was not able to sleep in on any morning because of this fact. It really is terrible and needs to be addressed by management. It took away from an otherwise really nice stay to see family in Merrick. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. For sure don't use them. Used them for my hotel block. Not only did they have the audacity to call me 3 times on my WEDDING day and fight with me and then complain about why I didn't answer the first 2 times (I was getting ready), they quoted me 1 price and I told all my guests that and they charged them another. I booked them for Friday-Sunday and they said the rule is if they don't book by a specific date, they would release the rooms (which is normal and I agreed with) yet they called to fight because no one checked in Friday (wedding was Saturday) and that I had to pay for the rooms that weren't used Friday even tho that was stated no where. I didn't wind up having to pay for them but still fighting with me over nothing on my wedding day. the There were bugs in the rooms, there was used men's underwear in the room as well. Whoever the middle eastern woman with the long hair who works the front desk is should be fired for being unprofessional and rude to everyone she speaks with. Very professional front desk staff. Rooms are super clean...something they pride themselves on. It's a vintage property that is nicely maintained. Had to come in to town for a funeral and was pleased with the Gateway. I will definitely return. read more

We had a great experience at the Gateway Inn. What started off as me trying to reserve 2 rooms super last minute (I'm talking about 2 hours before we were going to need to check in) ended up in me trying to reserve 6 rooms total for a large group of family I was with visiting from Maryland for a wedding. Miriam at the front desk was so helpful and accommodating and was able to reserve 6 rooms for us on the fly. Yes, they only accept major credit cards (no cash, no debit) and luckily me and my father in law had credit cards, so we were able to charge it and have the rest of the parties give us cash for their rooms. Although this place is a bit older, it is extremely clean and well-maintained. I also thought it was endearing that the manager gave us 3 bags of extra towels at check-in, as he was concerned we wouldn't have enough because some rooms had an extra adult in them. Yummy continental breakfast in the morning with bagels, pastries, yogurt, a variety of cereals and great coffee. Me and my family were extremely grateful to the Gateway Inn for booking all 6 of our rooms last minute and with reasonable prices for all rooms.
