This place is dope. If you're just going to dry yourself out, this is where I would go. The staff is fun and friendly It is what it is. Don't make a mess in the kitchen or your room unless you're a butthole It's treatment so be realistic. Learn a new schedule, Keep your hands to yourself. Use common sense. This is just a tool to help you move yourself away from the shit you're doing. Eat as much as you can because when you get sober, you might be hungry(24/7) . I can't believe all the negative reviews from parents due to their children's behavior. Your kids suck Karen. Act like a human it's not hard and you'll enjoy everything much more. You'll meet some dope folks. Don't rely on staff, but rely on the individual that you're sharing a room with and others that you can relate to. The staff is there to make you comfortable and since we're all addicts, we always want more but remember the reason you're there. We all made the decisions that led us here. Handle it. Nice clean Facility. Food is better than average for A rehab facility. Nursing is not up to code. CNA"s distribute Medication , controlled substances. Counselors Out rite lie to your face, are no help other than giving you a phone call. Gateway #1 priority is getting insurance companies to pay the fee for you to be there for as long as they can get them to pay. Then you are gone Immediately. 31 days there for treatment and I"m confident in my recovery thanks to first, my counselor Nancy who was amazing working with me and my family, second Ken (staff on duty) for replacing bad habits with positive structure, third Benny & Trish for being there when needed, fourth Ryan and Kassie along with Nancy for leading amazing groups and last but not least Barb for doing a killer job with insurance. Another awesome part of this location is the recreational therapy (weights, volleyball, basketball, etc,) daily to build positive addictions. After reading through them, it gave me even a FURTHER understanding of this addiction disease and sickness that I HAVE and will always have (never cured) but from a completely opposite perspective. And all your Enabler family member does, sick like us, is anything they can to prevent their loved one from going through any more pain at the expense of their own. My mom was the worst enabler but she's better and helping other crazy sicko Moms and Partners get over their "addicted loved one" and finally work on themselves. Listen, no one in the entire world knows exactly what this disease is so we call it by many names. Addiction and Alcoholism is what we call a disease that's primarily identified by the outer expression of what it does. We use as our street-infused solutions...yes, alcoholics included. We are like little Einsteins and are on a life long quest to find a solution to our head problem. We know there is something wrong with us from birth but we can't digress what it is so we search and search until we find the booze or chemical that "fits" the missing puzzle piece to solve this "mystery problem" that we suffered from our entire life that only gets worse, never better. The moment we stop "kicking and screaming" to have our way, to play the victim, and to have our impossible expectations met much like a Toddler, we begin to start to get better. If we stay in our "Eureka! I found my OWN solution" mindset, the more and more and more increasingly demanding we become, expectant with expectations and the moment we are uncomfortable the world must grovel before us because we are in pain dammit! Fix it! Whether at this point we use or drink OR NOT (emphasis on the 'or not') is irrelevant as our mindset stays with us and only gets a little more torturing not just on us but those around us. Our lies become deeper, with a higher chance of beguiling ourselves more than we think we are doing over other people. I hate the term "functioning Alcoholic" WTF is that? Oh cuz you kept a job and a family and one of your other 'brothers or sisters' of the exact same illness are worse off than you are?! OH PLZ. The disease is the disease is the disease is the freaking disease. We are all different right? We have a common problem, yet an ironic common solution. No addict or alcy of any stature is EVER functioning. We are a dysfunctional disgruntled heaping mess of a mind. But we might not ever tell you so, let alone ourselves and we may be able to hide a great deal of it's tip of the iceberg symptoms by wearing an excellent self crafted masquerade mask sheath over his or her self as an outward appearance costume. Some of us say "the 12 steps aren't the only way to stay sober." I actually agree. It sure is possible. My daughter was a resident briefly. Other residents were unsupervised and attacked her. She ran away. No one notified me that she was gone so the next day her priest brought 3 suitcases of clothes out to her. It was a 3 hour round trip for him yet they accepted her luggage even though she wasn't there. It's been hell getting her things. I live in St. Paul, MN and it is days before anyone calls you back. They just don't care. Its like they are not accountable to anyone. They must figure people have no family and they can get away with mistreatment. Don't send a loved one to the Lake Villa location. I'm warning you. It's worse than jail. read more

I was court ordered to go here and at 1st based on reviews wasn't happy but that all changed when I got there (even though I only stayed very short stay due to my insurance not being accepted there). Positives: the place is in a nice location, right by lake. More like a retreat type setting. The buildings are also in pretty good shape. The staff is very nice, at least all the ones i came across. Very positive, welcoming and down to earth. When I was there mostly all if not all the girls there for treatment were welcoming and helped you out with whatever they could. The rooms were a nice big size and you had to keep them clean. 4 beds to a room. Seperate bathtub room, seperate toilet and double sink. No food in room bc its in a forest and mice/bugs but you could have your waterbottle and hard candy (jolly ranchers, mints etc). Small safe in closet. Food was pretty good. 3 meals a day plus snack at night. That i didnt really like bc i can only eat small portions and eat at least 5x but something to get used to and it is a health recommendation anyway. 1 cup of coffe in morning unless there is left overs. Unlimited or at least all you can drink in 45 min pop, juice etc from the dispenser thing or whatever it's called. Beautiful lake view where you can sit on big patio and eat during meals. Movie night with lots of movies to choose from. Recreational place where you can either play some sport in group or workout on machines. Negatives. Only 2 ten minute phone calls a week on designated days and a counselor is in the room with you. I have social phone anxiety and hate talking when someone is in room. Phone calls to family only but can be usually worked out with counselor to call someone else close. Visits only sat 145-3 with family so if family works that day no visits. Takes a long time to get your things back since they have to search it and wash all clothes at least on days when a lot of new ppl are admitted and when i was there was 3 other ppl so that slowed it down. Slow on meds too. No snack machine. I know u cant have cash but could have one with like a card or pin if you have money on it but also could see that becoming a problem so guess that is why there is none. Theres a lake and you can't swim. Overall for the nightly price if you self pay of 725/night it could be more accommodating but overall it was a good place and 3 people i knew who went here except in mens treatment all said it was great so i would definitely recommend. read more

Honestly I can't say that gateway didn't help at all, but I would never say that they live up to their standards, especially at this location. Very unstructured environment and only a few good counsellors. Most counselors at gateway lake villa simply have too much on their plate and therefore cannot give full attention. Everything is just so unorganized. Anyway, i am an addict in recovery and after many attempts at rehab have came to realize that no treatment center can change you unless you want it. You have to be motivated for change. If you don't want it how can a rehab center change your mind?? I almost hit rock bottom and that is how I changed my life around. I struggled and learned from my mistakes and that's how I stopped doing what I was doing, not because of gateway. read more

This company is centered around helping people get sober and create healthy habits. They do work hard to do so, yet it seems to be more about money they get from insurance. If your insurance doesn't cover they boot you out. I have been there twice and they say their hands when it comes to insurance and have to let you go once your insurance lapse. Also, it takes a good couple weeks just to get clarity, they only offer a 3-4 week program, then send you on your way. There are lots of groups and classes, yet thats all while you are detoxing. How much do you really retain while you are detoxing???? They are more about money than helping people. One month to get sober and make a complete turn around, unlikely??? I have seen some success stories. Sadly more not so successful. They also have an awful finance department for the Lake Villa destination. Barb, does not call you back, does not help you figure your bill out, they are disorganized and not helpful. Also, why would you position a place for peace and sobriety on a party lake? We had to watch hundreds of people drink and smoke in front of us just eating lunch days on end? Doesn't seem so healing! read more

This is a terrible place, it's a mill for young women on heroin, there r not enough staff and the staff that r there treat u like u r a mental patent not a "client" the facility is chaotic and disorganzied, nothing that they told me on the phone matched how i was cared for, their method of dispensing medicine is ridiculous u can sometimes have to wait up to hour or more for meds that's just for starters, the food is all processed and full of salt ,those r judt minir compared to thevway this place is run, while u r detoxing u r expected to help the other clients that basically means taking care of others while u yourself r not feeling so good, i witnessed at least 3 girls being brought in that needed to be in a controlled detox environment, one girl had no shoes hardly any clothes, we the "client's "took care of her until finally an ambulance was called , some if the staff r downright mean and unprofessional. This is a terrible place it should be shut down, this is one reason we have so many addicts, sending them to a hell hole like gateway. read more

I was there 2ce. Real cool place. I hate the phone call rule, once a week, 2ce if your lucky. But theres cool counselors thatll let you call more often if you really need to and if that person is a good support system. Food is great but breakfast is so-so. Plenty of smoke breaks which is a huge plus (rosecrans only has 3 a day, people are there to quit drugs, not cigarettes). Outside meetings are fun but ever since the one counselor "bert" left you dont get as many chances to go. But gateway lake villa is awesome. IF i ever relapsed, and i do not plan on it, id definately go back. read more

Gateway offers a very structured environment during very difficult times. Their counselors are well educated and really do care. I would recommend gateway to anyone with an addiction problem as they really try to get to the core. It's not cheap if you don't have insurance and can't qualify for state funding, but it's worth it to pay to change your life around! read more

Extremely unprofessional and uneducated staff. The staff members were verbally abusive. I actually felt scared to be there when it took 8 hours to check myself out during which time my parents were frantically calling me to find out what was going on. No one would answer there calls and I was not allowed to make phone calls either, not for a ride or anything, mind you i am 23 years old.... Upon leaving i was forced to walk a mile to the edge of the property being followed by a staff member in his van being verbally abusive out of his window. At the edge of the property I was handed my cell phone(which he and staff knew was completely out of power) and my money. My father says it should be a crime to recommend anyone to this facility for rehabilitation and i agree. Rosecrance is where you need to go! so much more direct and caring!!!!! read more

I admitted myself to Women's Program at Gateway based off of what they advertised for themselves on their web page. After my third day there I came to the realization that they in fact were not what they said they were or more importantly able to provide what they advertised that they could provide. The counselors did not provide one on one sessions and all therapy is delivered in a group environment. If you were lucky you would be able to see the Psychiatrist on or around your tenth day of being there. Everything there is unorganized and there is way too much down time between 'groups'. What a waste of such a beautiful property. read more

I found Gateway to be incredibly understaffed. It took me 3 days to find out who my counselor was and about a week to actually talk to her. As part of my recovery plan, I was given deadlines to complete assignments from my counselor, unfortunately for me, I never received any written instructions from my counselor to complete those assignments. I was left to ask other patients in recovery if they also had the same assignment and beg staff to make me a copy of theirs so I could complete it (I made the forms by hand to fill out). I came into Gateway after having a seizure that left me with a serious wound that needed cleaning and redressing on a daily basis as instructed on my discharge papers from my in-patient detox hospital. This did not occur which led to the dressing to grow into the wound. I was left to beg and plead for help, lucky for me, after the first week, a different staff member came back from vacation and ordered me to medical on the spot. Even after all that, I had to force the same issue on a daily basis to get it checked, never once seeing a Gateway doctor and having my remit slips requesting to see my primary care physician ignored. I can honestly say though, after all that, there are some staff, who addiction has obviously effected there lives in some way, that really called me out on my crap and to this day I have been sober, and I thank them for this. Not a day goes by that one staff members words, in particular, I don't think about, what can I say, he was right. Expect to learn more about yourself from the staff and your peers than anyone, the staff run groups are excellent, listen to them. Now as for billing, to this day I am having problems after leaving Gateway, their bills make no sense with no explanation, so expect it (bills of 100% interest type questions). This was my second trip to a facility after many years of sobriety from my first trip, my first had a great program. If Gateway made some minor changes, this would be a very, very good program. I give it 2-1/2 stars, easily could be a 5 star. I would recommend Gateway but only if you are willing to give up your best friend, whether it be food, booze or drugs that's the easy part, accepting yourself and your short comings, now that's the hard part. read more
