What better place to get an authentic German cuisine than in the country itself...Germany....it also happened to be my birthday so my son made reservations for the whole family to dine at Gasthaus Zur Breit, a local German restaurant located along a quiet road with beautiful views of the valley. Open 24/7.
Our reservations was at 6:00 pm but got there early enough to snag the last parking spot left. The place was packed with locals and people from the Air Force Base nearby. You can hear a roar as you approach the entrance. A huge screen HDTV greets you as you come in and the locals are all glued watching their favorite sport Soccer. their team was playing the French at that time...that explains the loud noise...It was a good thing that our table was at the other end near the veranda facing the nice green hills below. The view from our table was stunning.
We ordered the ff: Schnitzel Rustikal with bacon and baked onions, served with pan-fried potatoes and stringbeans, Spargelschnitzel, with asparagus and hollandaise scalloped with cheese, with bacon, Vesperplatte, A variety of different sausages served with homemade headcheese ,pan fried potatoes and bread, Gourmet Salad, The portions were Huge and everything came in a huge platter. There was something different from the menu...An Ostrich Steak for 17.80 Euro.
I was told it was delicious but I don't want any surprises, Looking back I should have tried it. Well there's always a next time.
For dessert the waiter came out with a big birthday cake complete with all the candles. It was so sweet of my son to buy the cake from the commissary and sneak it in without me seeing it.. He invited some friends who were also dining there to join us for dessert and a bottle of wine. Everything was good and everybody had a GREAT time!! The waitstaff were all very pleasant and cool. Will I go back there again. Absolutely!! to try the Ostrich Steak!! read more
