Then we first smelled and spotted the smoker and figured out how to get around to the entrance. It's in a big warehousey type building and everything looks brand new inside. I had the brisket sandwich. So tender and loaded with meat. The loaded potato salad was really nice. I think it had pulled pork in it, something smokey, but not bacon. My friend had the brisket nachos. She got the half order and barely made a dent in it. Service was very fast and it's right off the interstate.

I usually settle in with one favorite item at restaurants we frequent. Here it's always a dilemma. Today the special was a ribeye steak with two sides. The steak was massive. It was smoked and had a great flavor. My wife got the fish. It is a Friday AYCE special but is available any day. Sundays they have AYCE fried chicken. You can also order a 4 piece meal for a lesser price and I've never been able to finish that. My "usual" is a 2 meat combo. I usually go for ribs and a sausage, but the pulled pork and brisket are both good. I didn't care for the turkey and have tried bbq chicken. For sides, I like the baked beans and fried potatoes the best. Had a baked potato today and it was cooked through. There is usually a soup special - the ham and beans is my favorite. Note that it is usually packed on Sundays at lunch. It is much better to go Friday or Saturday at lunch. I've never seen a line then, but then you won't be able to get the fried chicken! We eat here about twice a month and I highly recommend it. It's the best bbq in a wide area around here.

This place is welcoming and the menu is bright, easy to read and right there! We saw the specials on an easel hidden on the right hand side. The Big Joe--Fried bbq Bologna and pulled pork sandwich and the macaroni and cheese bowl. Grabbed a table and gathered our utensils and sampled all of their house made bbq sauce. The sauces are wonderful! I favor their sweet sauce. Our order came out promptly, and it was beyond our expectation. The Bologna and pulled pork sandwich was superb, thick slices of Bologna served with slaw and pulled pork on a bun with perfect substance, No soggy buns here. This is a sandwich you literally swoon over-- we did!! The Mac n cheese bowl was perfection. Perfectly cheesy and not too thick of a sauce. Creamy and al dente over a bed of pulled pork. What shape pasta are you using? I've never seen this shape before! It's perfect I loved the sweet bbq sauce with every bite!! This was our favorite lunch. When I dream of food I will dream of Uncle Joe's bbq. The decor of this establishment is great! Comfortable, welcoming and has a vibe where people can enjoy their food. We saw Uncle Joe's and decided to give it a try. It is literally right off the highway which makes for a very convenient stop. I tried the brisket sandwich with sloppy Joe cheese fries. I had to try the fries because I've never had sloppy Joe's on fries. Sounded awesome! It was awesome! Really good brisket as well, along with their tasty original BBQ sauce and the Sweet Smoke sauce. We were all pleasantly surprised at how good all the food was in our party of 5, especially having never eaten here or even heard of it before. Now I have a "regular" go-to spot anytime I'm traveling in Southern Illinois.

They have a deep menu but it's very easy and understanding of that to get. I came 2 days and was able to try a few different things... I can officially say the wings are absolutely awesome, perfectly cooked, seasoned well, just really good wings. I always had the brisket sandwich, which was great and just a nice, mild smoked brisket. Well, he might as he's driving and I will for sure be taking a nap like the passenger princess I am. We've always passed through Effingham on our travels but have never visited until now.
