Once in a while it's not cooked as ordered but tolerable. The pulled pork sandwich is very tasty and piled high. They have a small but very adequate salad bar that's fresh and cold. I get takeout once in a while. The brisket is usually very very good. Only once I've been disappointed as it was dry and bland but I drove 30 minutes. I definitely recommend this place. They work hard and the kitchen as you walk in is spotless.

I usually settle in with one favorite item at restaurants we frequent. Here it's always a dilemma. Today the special was a ribeye steak with two sides. The steak was massive. It was smoked and had a great flavor. My wife got the fish. It is a Friday AYCE special but is available any day. Sundays they have AYCE fried chicken. You can also order a 4 piece meal for a lesser price and I've never been able to finish that. My "usual" is a 2 meat combo. I usually go for ribs and a sausage, but the pulled pork and brisket are both good. I didn't care for the turkey and have tried bbq chicken. For sides, I like the baked beans and fried potatoes the best. Had a baked potato today and it was cooked through. There is usually a soup special - the ham and beans is my favorite. Note that it is usually packed on Sundays at lunch. It is much better to go Friday or Saturday at lunch. I've never seen a line then, but then you won't be able to get the fried chicken! We eat here about twice a month and I highly recommend it. It's the best bbq in a wide area around here.

This place is welcoming and the menu is bright, easy to read and right there! We saw the specials on an easel hidden on the right hand side. The Big Joe--Fried bbq Bologna and pulled pork sandwich and the macaroni and cheese bowl. Grabbed a table and gathered our utensils and sampled all of their house made bbq sauce. The sauces are wonderful! I favor their sweet sauce. Our order came out promptly, and it was beyond our expectation. The Bologna and pulled pork sandwich was superb, thick slices of Bologna served with slaw and pulled pork on a bun with perfect substance, No soggy buns here. This is a sandwich you literally swoon over-- we did!! The Mac n cheese bowl was perfection. Perfectly cheesy and not too thick of a sauce. Creamy and al dente over a bed of pulled pork. What shape pasta are you using? I've never seen this shape before! It's perfect I loved the sweet bbq sauce with every bite!! This was our favorite lunch. When I dream of food I will dream of Uncle Joe's bbq. The decor of this establishment is great! Comfortable, welcoming and has a vibe where people can enjoy their food. There's merchandise you can peruse and the staff is really cool. You gotta look at my pics of the bathroom! So adorable and brightly decorated. It was a great surprise to walk into something decorated so different from 90% of restaurant bathrooms. Loved the color orange and the metal!! Until I return, best of luck Uncle Joe's!!!

We saw Uncle Joe's and decided to give it a try. It is literally right off the highway which makes for a very convenient stop. I tried the brisket sandwich with sloppy Joe cheese fries. I had to try the fries because I've never had sloppy Joe's on fries. Sounded awesome! It was awesome! Really good brisket as well, along with their tasty original BBQ sauce and the Sweet Smoke sauce. We were all pleasantly surprised at how good all the food was in our party of 5, especially having never eaten here or even heard of it before. Now I have a "regular" go-to spot anytime I'm traveling in Southern Illinois.

To the left of the door was a window opening to the back with a woman standing there with a baby on her hip, we were looking around to see where to go and she let us know to head to the second window to the back. Upon arriving at the second window, there was a young man standing there. He didn't greet us, didn't smile, just stood there. I indicated it was our first time in and asked a question about the menu, he responded with the answer and then just continued to stand there. I was very uncomfortable so just ordered a sampler with nothing else. For the three options, i chose pulled pork, brisket, and 2 ribs. The food came out right away but no comments or anything. We saw the BBQ sauce area and I took a couple of options in condiment cups with no lids available. grabbed some napkins as we would continue our road trip and eat in the car. I am never a big fan of pulled pork; I have my favorite and compare all to it. This had more flavor than most I have had but it was really dry for being ordered early in the day. The brisket was tender and the fat attached gave flavor. The ribs were fine, also dry. This was a pit stop on our road trip because we love BBQ, this just wasn't for us.

Scanning the food places we picked this because it seemed to have decent ratings and a lot of reviews. Plus, you get go wrong with good ol' American cuisine. The first kind of hiccup is that they must have recently moved building. Though they moved right next to their existing building, there was no signage and we had to rely on our own eyeballs. Which almost led us into the wrong building. Not a bid deal, realistically, but it threw us for a loop. Getting inside, it was super clean. Long bar, plenty of tables, modern, many tvs for many sports. Plus, the building itself seemed rather large. A chonker of a building, if you ask me. Our hostess brought us into what seemed like the back 40 of the building and seated us next to a garage door that overlooked a cement pad that will one day be a cement pad with things on it. Not even mad. Saw a train. Here's the money shot. Have you ever been happy adjacent? Have you ever been right up to the edge, the precipice, the peak, then turn around and leave? That was kind of the ideal feeling here. The ambiance and service and general-ness of the entire place was spot on. The food itself looked top-tier. But it felt a click away from perfection. Let's look into it. As a hefty man (fat, not the garbage bag brand), I'm a man of appetizers. Also of wings. Therefore, sign me up for 12 bone in wings for an app. Split into three flavors: Carolina BBQ, Buffalo, and regular BBQ. They came out looking and smelling delicious. The sauce flavors hit hard. But I was a little let down with the dryness of the wings. I know sometimes it can be difficult to knock a wing out of the park because those damn things just want to get crispy. But I don't want to fight chewing the meat off the bone. It felt like a battle me and my mush mouth would lose. Now, from what I understood, all sides were a la cart. Color me fine with that, fatty will order anyways. Especially since I saw they offered street corn AND hushpuppies. So naturally, that's what I ordered. The hushpuppies came out and were the round kind. Which I am no stranger to. They had good flavor, good done-ness, but missed the mark on the size. If they were hush people, they would have been premies. A little sad they didn't get to experience their full potential. Now, for this part I will say I was forewarned. My server did mention the street corn came in a bowl and was served cold. I thought I was better than somebody who judged street corn by its temperature. I was wrong. It did come cold. And because of that, it was not tasty. Missed the mark completely. I did get a bonus side, your typical, run of the mill French fry. They came out and looked great. Meadiu

The dinning room wasn't very full but when they seated us they took us to what used to be a patio. Now it's enclosed and there is a bar a stage and plenty of seating. My problem was the fans that were blowing made it difficult to have a conversation with my wife across the table. I told the server it was almost too noisy and was having a hard time hearing him talk. He said he'd talk louder. That didn't really fix the problem. Not real sure why we were seated in this area because the dinning room had plenty of space. We had a little trouble communicating our order because of the noise. As I stated a couple times to our server. I communicated I have trouble hearing in areas like this and he just kept talking louder. Anyway we finally got our food ordered and went for a salad in the next room. My wife even commented on the empty tables and asked my why I thought they put us in that big room. Idk? So we get our salad and it was good. Kretzers had a decent salad bar. One of the reasons we like the place. I ordered a 12oz ribeye rare with a baked potato. Wife got chicken strips with gravy and mashed potatoes and gravy. When the food arrived everything looked good and the server said some things that I have no idea what. Even the wife didn't know. I go to open the butter for my pita and it's not butter. It's an oil whip. I do not eat fake butter. It's harmful. To find out they have no butter in the place. So I tell my server of the situation and looks at me like he has no idea what to do. Turns and walks away. So I eat my steak and stare at the baked potato. I am a recent cancer survivor and have no ability to make saliva. So I needed the butter to make the potato edible. Or even gravy or something. I told the server but I don't think he heard me correctly or didn't know what to do. It was so loud with the stupid fans. So while I do recommend Kretzers and like their steaks and crab legs and salad bar. I don't recommend their new addition to dine in. And if you want real butter bring your own. I was a little disappointed with our experience this time around.
